Is the cage your building bigger than this? Because this is only a show cage

Thats a good setup, I had sketched something similar while thinking of what aviary I might like. Did the brand new shed come with the wire part? Or is it just a few panels missing and some mesh? What were the measurements and how many birds do you reckon you could fit in there as a maximum? Its strange how nothing was dying in the cooler whether and now they are Very strange indeed

I'm not going to get more birds until I have a place to put the cabinet. As you can see the shed which it is currently being stored is not exactly bird friendly, especially with its lack of light or ventilation. I'm going to try and coax my parents into letting me build a shed/aviary for my breeding, as we have plenty of backyard space to spare. But I already met some breeders in my area at the budgie club meeting that can sell me some birds, so thats not going to be a problem for me I thought that nestbox thing was really clever, it will come in very handy if I ever need to check on the chicks and keep the parents out of my way
  4. I get very annoyed at vets like that. We had one a while ago (before we moved) selling us all this expensive canned food that would supposedly put my pets in better health. At that time I had 1 dog and three cats. A short while after, once we had moved, we booked in our animals at a boarder while we went on holiday. This was only the three cats, as our dog had died of old age...after eating absolutely anything she could get her teeth around. The boarder herself laughed at us when we told them what we feed them. She said "Canned food is terrible stuff. Its almost 90% water content, so your pets never get the vitamins they need." She recommended us switching to pet mince which was just meat and nothing else. In the time since we have changed their diet we have found her to be correct. Not only were our cats excretions more solid, but the skinnier of the three, who could never seem to put on any weight, doubled in girth. But I guess I wouldn't gain weight either if I was basically having water for dinner. So don't listen to the vets Kaz if you feel that your way is better, because they don't always tell the truth....they just want your money lol
  5. I would like some more experience as to what type of mutation Vinaka is. I would much rather hear it from someone who know alot more than I lol

So I managed to get some pictures before it got too dark this afternoon (it was dreadfully overcast). Please ignore the mess in our shed  This is the cabinets And what they look like close up (they need a good clean) The mount on the bars. You see how access can be cut off to the boxes The breeding boxes Close up The breeding boxes are designed well in my opinion. The bottom of the box has a concave in it for the nest, as well as the other side (so there is a concave inside the box and outside) So if the nest gets exceedingly filthy, I can just unscrew the bottom of the box and flip it over so that there is a nice clean concave And they fit nicely without any fuss The bag of shavings I received And the bag of goodies. You can see the containers (the larger one has a proper seal, good for seed) 4 large dishes and 4 small and a bottle. There is also a ladder and a little birdie dumbbell lol As well as the calcium bells and cuttlefish bone And the inside of the cage. The man that built them placed a strip of wood along the back that seed dishes can hook onto. The bottle also hooks onto the front bars for water I did not include the chokos for Kaz's sake. I am so happy with my find

Your yellow budgie looks male to me, its cere is the same as mine and mine is male. If you want to double check though, try and get a close up shot of only his face taken without a flash Again I have learnt so many things here, I hope you do to

I bought a set of breeding cabinets today off a man, who's daughter used to breed budgies. He no longer had a need for them so was getting rid of them. The total size is 68in (172.72cm) high by 20.5in (52.07cm) in wide and 12in (30.48cm) deep and consisting of four cages. He made them himself and I think he did a good job. There is already a hole for the breeding boxes as well as a little mount for them. He gave me 8 breeding boxes, and they were also made by him, so they fit specially on the cage front. The box mount on the wires also has a little sliding door, so that entry to the breeding box can be cut off at any time without taking the box away. On top of these, he also gave me a bag of wood shavings, a plastic bag full of: calcium bells, cuttlefish, seed dishes and two plastic containers (that look good for storing seed). He also gave us an eco bag full of Chokos lol as he was getting rid of them too. I didn't get all this for free of course...I paid $40 for the lot I'll get some pictures up tomorrow when its light
  10. I'm sure that took you back Kaz It sounds so similar to my first time at one And yes Matt it was great, I will be back next meeting. I am taking my time, my plan is to slowly stockpile the things I need so that I'm not buying it all at once. The next thing on my list is a small aviary And thanks I mostly took it to build up my funds for breeding, as I'm more than likely to run into a wall or two when I start up
  11. I'll do the best I can...I'm still learning The first one is a spangle :star: Lacewings are either all white or yellow with cinnamon wing markings. The baby is a spangle also. The second hen I think is a grey dominant pied. The little chicks (are they three different ones?) they all look dilute to me. And the last one just looks like a normal green cock I hope I got them right, if not please someone come correct me because I don't want to give incorrect information
  12. Just a tad long....but my ninja skills can take it But seriously, some nice opaline spangles there, very pretty
  13. I  that first chick. Can I steal him under cover of darkness?

yea thats an old picture Bula had it as a toy before Vinaka moved in. He loved to sit on it lol
  15. Isn't a red eyed bird with brown wing markings a lacewing?
  16. I anyone gets scaley face please post a picture
  17. I made it. lol and I do that all the time
  18. Well there was a beautiful albino hen there...it wouldn't shut up though lol they had to put the show cage face to the back of another cage so it would be quiet. I liked the lacewings they had too, very nice. It was just a table judge, so the members brought in their birds to be compared to the other ones. A pretty normal cobalt won for that night
  19. Well, I think my first go at a meeting was a big success I knew I was in the right place because I could hear the budgies from across the street. When I got in there, someone close to the door immediately didn't recognise me and gave me a big welcome He took me around to see the budgies that had been brought in to table judge. After signing the book I went over to the birds again, while they were being judged. The judge (who also happens to be a avian supplier YAY) was telling me the whole way through what he was looking for and why some birds came first and why others lost. There was a big commotion when one of the birds was spotted with a red and blue ring on lol  After that I had a look over some of the things the judge sells and we had a talk about budgie breeding. Pretty soon I had a little group discussion going, all different members giving me tips and advice for starting out. It was fantastic. They were all really helpful and nice. The avian supplier even gave me the number of someone close to me who is selling a set of breeding boxes for $40 So if anything this meeting has gotten me more interested. Oh and Alpaca-boy, I did reply....maybe it got lost?

I let my budgies out in my room to explore. Though they don't like the getting out of the cage part, they love to wandering where they want part I can watch them for hours, they love to sit in front of my mirror and try to get past the other budgies One of them started to scratch at the carpet like a chicken does. And then proceeded to scratch at a piece of paper that was on the floor, almost like he was trying to bury it. Is that normal?

To be honest two boys sounds better than a boy and a girl at the moment. For a start they'll get along better. And if I want to breed them, I can do it sooner than if one was a girl I guess I'll find out sooner or later
