The Great Yf Symposium
Hi Darryl, I read this topic lots of times and it was me starting the discussion regarding the National winning YF . I want to breed Yellowfaces for show and I am trying to find out what types of Yellowfaces I've got....so I can pair them up correctly. I believe M1 and M2 are different mutations but that it can be hard to tell what they are without any breeding records....I've got a YF Greywing and YF Albinos and this makes it even harder to tell as these mutations seem to lighten the yellow intensity compared to my YF Cobalt - or maybe the cobalt is a Goldenface after all . All very confusing for a beginner. I think I will have to do some test breeding.

4 Chicks
harry looks like a goldenface single factor to me....so chick #2 and #3 should be goldenface single factor as well....they will look like dad after their first couple of moults.

Double factor Mutation 2 are not white faced, Dave. The Yellow would be mostly restricted to his face. I think you mean YF Mutation 1, double factors of mutation 1 look like blues without yellow.

Thanks KAZ. I was not too sure whether it was allowed to use this photo here. In 'real live' he looked more yellow suffused. So what do you think guys? Yellowface, Mutation 2, Single Factor? Yes, YF mutation 2. I'm guessing. Yes, I think so as well.....but is it single factor or double factor?- Grey Opaline Hen X ?
Love this grey hen, gb. Very nice bird. Can't wait to see their babies.- Working Holiday In South Australia
That's bad. I thought the clubs like new members. Maybe you could go to some shows or auctions. You most likely meet the same people at these events every time and they will start talking to you...that's what happened to me and I got invited to a club meeting as I mentioned I wanted to join one.- Wood & Drew Auction

try it here gb - class 17 http://www.nationalresults.net/display/NAT...irds+-+Saturday- Wood & Drew Auction
The YF had some yellow suffusion througout his body thats why I thought it is YF Mutation 2 Single Factor. There is a photo of him on the Nationals website. http://www.nationalresults.net/display/NAT...ve+Results+Feed I thought you should only show YFs Mutation 1, YFs Mutation 2 Double Factor or Goldenface Double Factor ????- Wood & Drew Auction
rumor has it mr gearing was fairly interested but thats rumori didnt bother going as some the birds were apparently fairly average for way to much price but then i wouldn't know as haven't been around long enough to judge that myself i was told they refussed 4 grand for bird then a offer of five for the yf so i hope the person whom was rumored to offer 4 got it for what it sold at auction would saved them a tad of money if did what was the cheapest bird their when you were their lealotta may i ask pleaseHi Gb, I thought I might meet you there. I only decided to go and have a look myself last night...it was interesting to see the YF, but otherwise a waste of time...in my opinion....way too expensive. I am only a beginner, but I think, yes...many of the birds were very average. The two cheapest ones were $70 and $80. An Albino hen went for $80...but I think she had visible throat spots and average size...but hard to tell because the light in the hall was no good. Not many birds under $300.Do you think the YF that won the Nationals was a Yellowface Mutation 2 Single Factor?- Wood & Drew Auction
Are they waiting at the airport to fly to your place?- Wood & Drew Auction
Did anyone else go today? I went to have a look as I wanted to view the Yellowface that won the Nationals. I want to breed YFs myself in future. Nice birds, especially the YFs and the Recessive Pieds. I had my eye on a Grey/Albino, but he was a bit expensive for me....$2200!!! My taste is getting more expensive from auction to auction but I think that's a good sign as I look for quality now. I think some birds sold for way too much, but I was surprised that the YF that won the Nationals only went for $3100, was sure he would go for more. I left after lot 77...no birds in my carry box.- 2010 Melton Blue Ribbon Auction
I am just a beginner, so probably can't say much about the quality and prices. But in my opinion the really good birds sold for lots and lots of money and even the birds of lesser quality were not cheap. Not too many for under $100. I bought one little dom pied opaline cobalt hen. I am very happy with her and it was the bird I wanted....I viewed all the budgies and she was the one I liked and I probably paid too much, but I had fun ;-). I didn't check out many cock birds as I was after hens. I am glad you got the one you wanted  There was a lovely 2010 Hunter Greywing Sky Cock you might have liked. He was a substitute for lot 242.....sold for $450. Beautiful Greywing.- 2010 Melton Blue Ribbon Auction

and the birds ?????????????????????????????????????? :raincloud:  :ohmygod:  Scones were only $1....but birds quite pricey. There were lots of bidders with lots of money to spend. The Crest from the Garces family went for $1700 and PT's Grey Green Cock went for $1650. Most of the birds I liked went for big money. The Ian Hunter birds were very popular.- 2010 Melton Blue Ribbon Auction
Delicious scones with cream and jam.....Yummy! They were worth going there. Long, but entertaining auction. PT did a great job and his son as well.- A Baby Is Hatching
sorry for the late reply. i had a look at all of my birds on the weekend and i made a list which ones to keep etc. as i don't want to end up with too many birds. the albino mum is on my keeping list now...she is such a good mum...so she will be a great foster mum when i start my show type breeding in august/september....got my club rings last week...very exciting! might not breed pet types in future so some of my flock will go. thinking of keeping 25ish budgies and start from there...most of them show type....some pet type for fostering. oh - and it's so funny: sherbert the lacewing is so confident now. he is back in the aviary and is flirting with all the girls now, especially the young albino hen i got from you and her mum. he must like albinos. :redalbino:- Splats Df White Spangle Cock Breeding
I took out a lot of the nestbox materials and made the exit higher up She will use the other chicks as a ladder to climb out then.- Splats Df White Spangle Cock Breeding
Has she found the nest box exit yet? :hap:- A Baby Is Hatching
Thank you RJT. :hap: 2 of the 3 albinos/lacewings have faint throat spots. looks a bit cinnamon. the photos don't really show it because the sun was too bright. mum might mask cinnamon? she has some faint markings too and has a blue sheen.- A Baby Is Hatching
Time for some more photos. :hap: Lacewing Dad + Albino Mum = 3 Albinos + 2 Lacewings Creamino Mum + Light Green Spangle/Ino/Cinn Dad = 1 YF Cinnamon Skyblue + 1 Cinnamon Light Green Spangle + 1 Albino + 1 YF Cinnamon Spangle Skyblue + 1 Creamino (YF Albino) + 1 Lutino- 2010 Nationals
