Some new additions to the aviary arrived today - have been waiting for a few weeks for them. In the box Couldn't wait til I got home (I was at mum's house) so I built one I plan on using them for seed and/or water, possibly also use the bottom tier for a planter for grass (even though I know said grass would be gone within half a day!) But that's okay - I have about 8 giant pots of grass especially for my birds I also have purchased a misting kit - still in it's box at the moment and I haven't taken a photo
  3. Does the chick have pink legs Finnie? I've always found that Cinnamons seem to have pink feet and legs - that could help you out with the cinnamon issue
  4. Your hen looks like a Light Green Opaline Spangle - similar to my cock Santa. I love that bright green she has! I can't really tell you anything on the show standards side of things as I really have no idea, but I think they are quite good, especially if you're just starting out!
  5. Our lilly pilly shrub/bush/trees have gorgeous pink flowers that look identical to gum flowers, their fruit is not the deep purply pink of the pictures you put up Kaz but more of a hot pink/magenta colour, and they're not waxy. I have been informed our lilly pillies are a native and should be okay but will keep reading up more Ours drop their fruit constantly too - the chooks love them!
  6. Ooh I have lilly pillies too - that would be great to know I'll try find out some info - I didn't even think about trying them with my birds! Thanks Kaz
  7. I agree with Clearwing, both look like hens to me. Looking at the Sky blue's spots makes me think she may be a grey wing too.

Hi and welcome Congratulations and how fantastic to have the National winner! Do you have pictures of your birds? We all love photos here
  9. I could possibly point you in the right direction for those as well as the budgies I may or may not be useful to you about that but I can only try and help

Hi and welcome to the forum. You'll find so much useful information - everyone is so very helpful
  11. Hi and welcome The Albino or Lacewing looks male to me too. I can't help with the mutation - I originally thought Albino, but if it has markings, maybe it's a poorly marked Lacewing? *shrugs* I also think the pied is male. I notice you're in Perth - so am I It's a shame the petshop got it wrong, but that isn't anything unusual when it comes to petshops. Alot of the time they do get it wrong. There are some that are spot on, but there aren't alot of them.

Sorry for the delay! Been trying to get measurements and stuff. This is the original aviary - it has my current flock in it - measurements are 2.67m L x 1.9m w x 1.9m h This is my shed, which I have now found to be 2.25 x 2.25 x 2.4 (not 2 x 2 x2.4 - little bit extra room always helps) This is my spare aviary which I will be using for parts - from memory as it's in bits and I can't get to all of it - it's around 2.5 x 1.9 x 1.8.....I think I was thinking I still want to keep the plan similar to what I have previously posted on here, but not quite sure how to go about it all
  13. Neither are opaline Oh okay, I'm so sorry I thought they were. It just looked as thought the hen had a nice clear mantle and the cock(?) had the "muddy wing effect" <---(this is how someone was trying to describe what opaline was to me when I first started out)
  14. Ooh isn't it exciting? Another pinkie and a surprise one too! Will keep you guessing for a bit trying to figure out the genetics!
  15. I agree with Neville, and I think they are both Opaline too.
  16. Pair one - hen looks like a baby still, very young and if she's not, she is completely out of breeding condition. The cock - I'm not sure if it's me, or just the photo but he looks a bit fluffed up like he is ill. Pair two - hen looks like she has started to come out of breeding condition. The cock looks young, but can't really tell from that picture too well. Do you have a close up of his eyes Pair three - The albino looks like a cock, not a hen - could just be my monitor though. And if that's the case they definitely wont produce Pair four - the hen looks like she's coming out of breeding condition. Pair five - the hen looks like she is still young and again, if she's not - she is completely out of breeding condition. Those are just my thoughts, someone else may be able to help out
  17. Wish I were there to help you Splat. Sounds like you need it and it's a shame your partner can't/wont help you. Apart from that, it sounds like things are coming together for you I am so looking forward to the end result! Best of luck

okay I have a slight dilemma Now that I have the shed, a spare aviary, mouse proof wire, some shelving, a sink, a window and some wooden beams, I have no idea how to place the shed!! I know I want to attach it to the existing aviary, but am unsure on how to attach it or where to attach it. My mind is going a total blank. All the plans I keep drawing end up wrong and I'm getting slightly frustrated at it Any ideas on how I could do it?
  19. Firstly, WOW!! Congrats on the sale of your house - that's brilliant! I am so pleased for you That makes things easier for you, now you only need to worry about your beautiful old house. Now onto the breeding - yay to be able to start breeding again! Sorry you're unable to use the garage like you were planning. Stupid mice seem to be everywhere at the moment I am liking the idea of using a spare room - okay so maybe it's not the most convenient BUT it's so much safer than losing your precious birds due to mouse toxins. Besides as you say, it's only temporary, hopefully your husband will be okay with it Secretly I think I'd delight in the fact that I had oodles of budgies inside, but I know my husband would be horrified and probably disown me He wouldn't really, but that shows how much he isn't into my budgies. Kaz, I was wondering if you'd like some pavers for the bottoms of your aviaries or future birdroom? When I picked the shed up, it came with oodles of pavers - as I have a concrete slab, I don't need them.
  20. You're doing really well with it I love how you're taking everyone's info on board - it's great when people take notice of what's being said and try and make things better for their birds. I was going to ask about your floor too, but seeing as Kaz did, I no longer need to Good luck with it all and keep the photos coming - we love photos!
  21. To me, from my monitor they all look like little hens. Chick 3's first photo I thought cock, but then I saw the second photo and it screams hen at me. They look Greywing too - well the ones that are feathered enough that I can see. Chicks 5 and 6 could possibly be normal but I'm guessing they too are Greywing. Will need to wait until they're a bit more feathered so I can give a better guess The more experienced members will be able to help out more, i'm sure They are so cute Finnie! I can't wait til I start mine breeding again - this time I will be able to put 4 pairs down at once!
  22. It looks great! Well done I agree with cutting the trees - my aviary is underneath a bottlebrush tree and i've had mice climbing all over the roof - filthy dirty little rodents. I'm waiting to get it chopped out of the way. So far they haven't gotten in through the roof - I have shade clothe covering it and if they had gone through the roof, they'd have to chew it first. I also have had a hawk attack my budgies through the wire - so not cool hearing little budgie screams - luckily mine weren't killed, only one cock was injured but still that's not a good thing. Just out of curiosity - budgies being budgies - would they gnaw/chew the wooden panelling and beams? I'd hate the idea of your precious birds getting out because of their love to chew.

Thanks ladies Brought the shed home yesterday....after a few minor incidents. Firstly whilst dismantling the shed, dad cut himself "oh she'll be right" he says, "cup of concrete styles is it?" I say. He has a look at it "oh, oh umm about that, it's a tad deeper than I thought" I went and had a look - he SHOULD go get stitches but a few steri strips later and a "harden up attitude" he's back into drilling screws out and pulling off panels. GO DAD haha Finally it's on the trailer "Hi ho silver AWAY" Yes Dad does have a strange mind but he's good for a laugh Half way home, with the wind blowing quite strongly, we hear a noise......the jiggling of the wind and movement of the trailer resulted in the sheet metal cutting the rope and the roof of the shed flying through the air, only to crash land on the road before bouncing into the median strip. I laughed. I couldn't help it - my dad is the safest of safe people you will meet and for that to happen, I just cracked up. He looked at me so apologetically and I was "it's okay, it's only the roof and at least there were no cars around for it to damage. We backed up to retrieve rogue shed roof.....ohhh dear it's a mess, but oh well as dad says, she'll be right! Nothing another two panels can't fix... oh and me bashing the end with a hammer to straighten it out So there are the adventures of me and my dad - a father/daughter outing that was looong overdue Was worth every second of time and effort and worth every dent the shed roof copped. P.s shed will be up soon so pics will be taken
