  1. haha, you have to wait until people come online to help Most people will be out and about on a Sunday. But I could possibly help you out. Firstly, are you sure she's old? Purple rings were issued for the September 2010 to September 2011 breeding season - so she could in fact be coming up to a year old or already be a year old OR if it's an old ring - then she'd be at least 6 so definitely no breeding for her. Any older than 4 is unwise to breed a hen What are the code details on the ring? In regards to showing - I don't see anything wrong with showing an older bird - if they have the looks, then why not? As long as she is in good health etc, it shouldn't be a problem. Thanks squeak-crumble, she is a 6 yr old bird and i wont show her as she was not bred by myself, i,ll get some pics for you I'm not squeak-crumble, but you're welcome
  2. Hope some of these might be suitable for you

  4. I AmyS, AS KNOWN ON THIS FORUM FROM Western Australia, Australia, AGREE TO ALLOW ANY OF MY PHOTOS OF MY BIRDS FROM ANY OF MY POSTS/THREADS ON THIS FORUM TO BE COPIED AND TRANSFORMED INTO PAINTINGS/DRAWINGS BY THE FORUM MEMBER KNOWN AS GENERICBLUE AND FOR THESE PICTURES/PAINTINGS TO BE DISPLAYED AS SHE SO CHOOSES DATED 22nd October OF YEAR 2011. Good Stuff GB! I love seeing your work - you're a marvellous artist xoxo
  5. I think the Yellow Faced Cobalt is a hen and the yellow pied, well that looks like the cere could go either way at the moment. Do you have close up frontal photos of their ceres?
  6. Amy S replied to Finnie's post in a topic in Budgie Pictures
They are all beautiful Finnie! Love seeing your photos - you always take such good ones. The youngest one (I THINK) is a hen. White down = Opaline, plus the cere looks the same colour my babies had when they were tiny and turned out to be hens The rest of her mutation - can't tell till she feathers up a bit They're all soooo adorable!

Hi Doggie! Welcome to the forum If both parents are Cinnamon, then all babies will be Cinnamon There are a few genetics books about, but I can't for the life of me think of their titles sorry! Maybe it's because it's so late. I will try and think of the names tomorrow

You have to go through and view it. They are progress threads which means there are photos throughout showing each step as it happens and the progression to completion
  9. I keep looking and looking and all I come up with is the green cock has a tiny pied spot on the back of his head which would make him split Rec wouldn't it? But if the baby is a dom pied, then this wouldn't work. I can't see any other indication of pied anywhere!
  10. Are you by any chance down the Kelmscott/Armadale way? We've had one too - it always hangs around, even at night time. My neighbour used to feed one after it landed in his backyard skinny and dehydrated. Now it's just a pest hanging around everyone's aviaries, except mine now as I have shade cloth around it.

I should have posted this yesterday, but I stupidly didn't think as I was upset and my kids were upset as they didn't understand. I took the kids out yesterday as it was a nice day, and came home to find my aviary and quarantine cages had been broken into. I am gutted as I had recently purchased a gorgeous DF Violet peachface, has been taken, along with an aqua mask lovebird and 4 of my show budgies. All my other show budgies, my masked lovebirds, peachface lovebird and quails are all still there. I had recently replaced the lock on the aviary with a new one and it's been busted apart. I am so so shattered. The violet peachface was hand tame and was starting to sit on my finger and eat out of my hand These were the birds taken Aqua blue masked lovebird Dark Factor Violet Peachface/edge dilute/turquoise/cinnamon violet/DDF Violet Yellow Face Sky Violet Opaline Spangle Hen Sky Opaline Spangle Cock Violet Normal Cock Grey Green Normal Cock No strangers have been let into the back yard and no birds were being sold. Padlock had been busted on the aviary which housed the budgies. The lovebirds were in two separate quarantine cages - one housing masked lovebirds, the other housing peachface and only one bird from each quarantine cage was taken. I hope that whoever has them now looks after them like they deserve, but I have my wishful thinking hat on that they will come back to me. If anyone happens to hear anything, please let me know, thank you.

Thanks Nubbly, you rock! okay 1ltr may be a bit much but if there are a few people that want to share and go halves/quarters/eighths etc then I'd be happy to buy and share!

Shame there isn't a "like" button I'd hit it many times on your post Kaz. Totally agree with you there!
  15. I will be there, possibly with both kiddlywinks in tow and I am bringing another family with me to show them what it's like I miss my last club meeting but hope to bring this family to the next one. Should be an interesting day!
  16. Fooobaar, I am racking my brain trying to guess these and I just keep ending up with a big jumbled mess of headache I have some ideas but whilst they seem good in my head, when I write them down they just don't gel well. Small hint?
  17. I agree with Neville

Looks like an Albino cock to me, but a close up of the cere might be better
  19. I unfortunately didn't end up going to the auction, due to a very restless Friday night/Saturday morning with my little boy, which meant I was too tired to drive I am highly disappointed as I was hoping to find a nice Grey Normal hen or cock within my budget. I am hoping to be able to go to the next meetings and auctions. Ratemymate, that's a very lovely thing you did for your wife

My White DF Spangle hen is one of Mario's birds that I bought. She is, one of the best of my flock. I love her to bits - brilliant mother and ever so gentle with me. I'd love to get more of his birds if I could!

Sheeting the bottom of the aviary works for mice as long as you dont have a soil floor they can dig into as well. Also block holes at roof level if mice can climb anything ( trees fences ) to come in at roof level. Thanks Kaz Today is a nice day so I'll get out and cut and attach it all. No soil floor in my aviary - all concrete. Yes the roof is my next problem - I thought I had sealed it enough but obviously not as I saw a cheeky one last night climbing up in through one of the metal beams. I be moving the aviary to the edge of the concrete pad too - which will make the tree, which had been hacked right back, further away.
  24. Amy S replied to Amy S's post in a topic in Aviaries
I've been straining my brain trying to figure out a way of mouse proofing my aviary. I have got a few sheets of SunTuf Polycarbonate Roofing in 2m lengths which I have been considering cutting into .90m lengths to go around the bottom halves of the aviary - so mice can't climb up, yet it still lets light and heat in on the floor, also would keep it a bit drier. These would be placed OVER the already existing aviary mesh. Is this a good idea or not? I am sealing the floor with pavers (at least around the edges) - weird to have pavers on top of a concrete pad I know:blink: but seeing as I am unable to have it there as a permanent fixture, it seems to be my only solution? I am yet to put my shed up - I may end up not being able to do that too Are there any other mouseproof solutions that I could do? I have got baits and traps around that have been working really well, but it doesn't stop the little blighters entering the aviary
