From what I can find here, it seems Douglas Fir, Frasier Fir, & spruce trees are okay if they're all flying about and decide to perch on the Christmas tree and do the inevitable nibbling. Obviously I want to keep them OFF the tree, because of the lighting wires and ornaments, but just checking that it won't hurt them.
  2. Mr. Squiggle is amazing!
  3. Lucy's ack ack noises sound like a machine to me---sometimes it's "back off" and sometimes it's "feed me, dammit!" There's some dolphin noises in this short clip: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DfpM2pQoRb8 Sometimes it sounds like 5 Flippers in there.
  4. Thanks for posting that!

Hi Gracie that's an adorable photo of your little Minty, sorry about his story and you have to wonder about the other poor birds in that store.

  11. It's a wonderful thing to watch, and a great survival tactic too. After everybody fledged I separated mom, and dad was with the babies. Then dad went back with mom, and the babies started to take care of each other. Oldest fed the youngest (both hens) but there was random feeding between them all. The two hens are still great pals and sometimes I'll open the cover in the morning to find them holding each other up on a perch.

I didn't think it was fair to submit one with speech balloons and whatnot plus this is the whole family ... PLUS the babies look all ratty with their moulting bed heads and the beet red tails! Their mom hasn't mastered the spit-wipe yet.
  14. Thirded! Again, thank you for stepping up to the plate for your birds, this is fascinating to see it unfold. :reading:
