  1. Haha, I know I probably should. It just can get annoying sometimes when she says "Alright, we'll head off at 10.30" and we don't end up leaving till 12 I think we are going to just keep the car in the driveway and just run the aircon for 5 mins before we head off.
  2. I'll run that idea past my mum too. It's always so hetic when we are trying to leave (because my mum has a habbit to leaving most of her packing to the last minute and never seems to realize that maybe it's a good idea to pack the night before )so we need a simple plan, so I'll let my parents decide. I just don't want Nibbles to become roast budgie Because even I hate being in a hot car, its so unbareable. Thank you
  3. The car has a bit of shade covering half of it, but it's usually in full sun at 10am, and we're leaving later. I'll ask my parents to run the aircon for a couple of mins before we leave and maybe park the car down the road, but that'd mean carrying all our bags down the road so i think the aircon idea is better. Thank you both
  4. Next week we are going on a holiday and are taking Nibbles (our budgie) with us. The trips about 3 hours by car and he has done it plenty of times before so I'm not concerened about that. The thing I'm concerned about is that the day we are heading off it's forecast to be a hot 35 degrees c. We've been lucky with previous trips that in we've taken him on the weather has been around the low 20's. Our car is kept in our driveway, and gets the full hit of the sun and gets very hot and unfortunatley there is no where we can put it to keep it cool. Will Nibbles be alright in the hot car (probably will be 35 degrees+) until we can cool the car down a bit? I've got a spray bottle that I can mist him with, although he doesn't like it very much. Thanks
  5. Thanks for the advice, I'll start to move a couple of his toys around soon. We haven't had a problem with mirrors in his cage, and he seems to enjoy having another 'company' when the whole family is out. He does like to look at his mirror and give it kisses, but he's more affectionate with us.
  6. Sure is :cake:
  7. Look what Nibbles has been doing in his spare time: Cheeky little bugger! Look's like it's time to get a new night cover!
  8. Well, lately I've had the idea to maybe rearrange Nibbles cage so he has something new to discover. The thing is, it's been the same set up since we got him, which was 3 and a half years ago :hb: Some of his perches are beginning to look a bit old and tired, which is no wonder really  His main perch is a fork shape and fits perfectly in his cage so I think I'd have trouble to find a branch like that, though you never know. So if i were to change it, it'd have to look different. We have lots of branches down the bottom of the garden, as we back onto a reserve, but I'm a bit reluctant to go down there due to yesterday when we discovered we have a resident red back belly snake living down there. But really, my question is, should I change the set up of his cage, or do you think this will upset him and should I just leave it until the perches REALLY need to be replaced? Here is a picture of our set up at the moment, with nibbles in it :hb: Sorry for the messy cage, will be cleaning it soon! I hope the images are the right size, I'm pretty sure they are, but if there not, I'm terribly sorry! Thanks

  10. Do you think it's worth me taking him to the vet Liv? Does anyone else have an opinion they'd like to share? I've been researching about possible things he could have, but most infections the budgie would have other symptoms which he doesn't have and nothing really seems to fit. I think he gets it roughly every two weeks? Thinking back, I think he's had it for like 2 or more years? If it is an irritation what could it be? Could it be dust? Because my house is dust prone, unfortunately. I will take him to the vet if that's what people think is best for him. But he hates being held even by me and is terrible with strangers.
  11. I understand. I've found a few other vets near me, and I'll call them soon. Thanks.
  12. Okay. I'm in Chatswood. No, we have no avian vets near us. The two only vets close to us do not specialize in birds (have asked them both already) unfortunately, and one of them killed a dog of someone I knew because they used unsterilized equipment :| But I'll see what I can do. Is there anything I could do myself, ie. buy him vitamin drops for his water?
  13. My budgie does this thing where he'll scratch his cere with his foot (basically the same as when a budgie preens is cheek feathers with its foot, if you get my drift) and then he'd like sneeze and a wet liquid sprays out of his nostrils. He'll do this about 3 times and then he'd be fine. Is this normal, or is it something that I should be concerned about? It's not a sudden thing that his being doing, he's probably been doing it for a year or so off and on and his health definitely hasn't deteriorated, he's still his bubbly, chatty self I don't think it's a respiratory infection, because he doesn't have any trouble breathing, though sometimes he does this thing where he sticks his neck out as far as it can go and seems to be gulping, but I think he's just regurgitating.? Thanks!
  14. Oh, cool. That's very interesting to know. Thanks!
  15. Ever since I've had my budgie, he's had a little itchy spot down near his tail, once a week or so it gets itchy and raises his feathers from that area and like nibbles at it then rubs his head on it. When that is happening he also always preens his feet in between each itch. I found a video on you tube of a two budgies who seem to be doing what Nibbles does. Fast forward to 0:09 I'm really interested to know why they do it. It is just a natural thing for a budgie to do? Becuase it seems pretty weird Thanks.
  16. Wow, I've never heard of a budgie doing that before
  17. If you continue with him stepping up onto your hand with the millet, he should become tame to your finger. I tamed my budgie that way, except it was with his toys. I put the toy behind my finger so he had to step up onto my finger if he wanted to get to his toys. After about two weeks, he was comfortable with stepping up onto my finger without the toys there for encouragement Anyway, I wish you the best of luck taming him!
  18. Decided not to get liquid iodine as the local chemists near me don't sell it. Thanks for helping me though.
  19. There may be, but it sounds as if your bird is very sick, so I would take it to the vet. Try and keep your birds vent clear as well. Make sure he/she is separated from your other birds to prevent the spread of whatever your bird has.
  20. Take the bird to a vet ASAP. Put the bird in a hospital cage with a 40 watt globe. Sorry, can't help you anymore than that. I'm sure other members will tell you if there is anymore that you can do.

  25. I live in Sydney, NSW. Chatswood to be more specific. I've looked in the list of avian vets in NSW but the closest one is about 45 minutes away from me. I know of a couple of vets in my area, but none of them specialize in birds. Anyone know of any vets near my area? Thanks!
