How Much Time To Give A Pair?
I'm not sure about condition but I think no 1 may be past breeding cond. I'd swap hens. You could get some lovely pied's, maybe. 1 & 4 could have nice colours as well. Depending on splits. When they're in condition.

Cleaning Bird Cage Pooptrays
Hi, whats your tray made from? If plastic the stain could be permanent. Does it really matter, as long as it gets cleaned. It's a case of clean today, looks like it wasn't touched tomorrow, l.o.l. Maybe a bleach product e.g.ajax may help as long as you rinse it well afterwards.

Suggestions Please
Tricky one Nadene, I've never had to do this. I presume a syringe would be the best option I've given chicks water and sugar mix to get them going but not meds. I just held end of syringe to side of beak and gently pushed a drop at a time into beak. Don't know if this helps. Hope your others don't come down with it.

No Wonder I Get Confused.
Thanks Nadene, I'm really pleased with them. No 2 I'm thinking of naming, Him? Opal. because of the colours very soft but beautiful. The cinnamon nest is looking good also, Dad has no tail feathers, pulled out as a chick, (he also broke his leg that I managed to fix) he's a nice bird though, a great Dad. Mum was a spangle? similar to spangle chicks in picture. I won't put any more down now until maybe Feb. or so.

Thanks Nerwen, I keep trying to get better pics of chicks colouring, until I can get them out in sunlight it doesn't give a true colour at all, I'll have to wait a few more days.

Bad Case Of Mites
Pics are a bit small to tell but it looks like scaly face. Can you get hold of some Ivamectin for birds from a vet? A little bottle here is under $10.00 and will do many birds. If you can get it, it's 1 drop behind head on each bird you have (if one has mite they all will if housed together) it will take a couple of weeks to notice a difference. If no improvement repeat dose. It will also help with other internal worm's, mite's etc. until you can get some keep using what you have, following directions, something is better than doing nothing It won't go away on it's own without treatment.

Feather Plucking
If they are all in one nest, do you have other nests with chicks? Maybe I'd look at Mum or Dad from plucked nest. Mum might be ready to lay second round. Have you seen any other birds hanging around the nest box? As to why or how to deal with it more experienced breeders could maybe give you better advice. Keep us posted.

Mating Dance?
Hi, as you said you took them from the aviary to smaller cage etc. I think what your video showed was "goal break" behaviour. The result of being placed in the smaller cage. If they are in breeding condition and looking at your breeding cage, I agree with others if you can raise your nest box, it looks great. I don't think you will have long to wait for them to decide to breed. Good luck.

Bad Case Of Mites
Hi, sounds like you may have scaly face mites? What "liquid" did you put on them? If it was Ivamectin, how long since you treated them? A picture would really help, also full information on what is happening so we may be able to advise further.

No Wonder I Get Confused.
Thanks Hilly & Nubbly. None of these chicks seem cinnamon but when Hulk (dad) was paired with another non cinn hen they had a cinnamon chick. Which made me think Dad must be split cinn. as I think I read a hen can't be split cinn. I paired these 2 hoping to get some green & gold pieds. Hulk and a hen that died bred some beauties. I think one is going to be a green and gold but very dark green. They are all great colours though.

Welcome to the forum. Keep a positive attitude to your illess and treatment. Sounds like you already have some great support with family. If your little buds can help that's another positive. Good luck with everything and keep posting (with pics) if possible when your chicks hatch. :)

New Budgie
Hi Babychat, I think I'd change pet shops. As Nerwen said ring means. n.s.w, Breeders initials, GWS, year x8, 2008, bird no 010 (that years 10th chick rung). Glad you quarantined her, she doesn't look like she is "past it" if she comes into breeding condition and bonds with one of your cock birds I'd give her a go. Is she Cobalt or Violet spangle? camera never gets the camera right. Good luck with her and keep us posted as to how she goes.

New Budgie
If you haven't quarantined her from your other birds, I'd remove her from aviary. If she's sitting on floor etc she could be showing first signs of illness. If so she may pass it to your other birds so you may have to treat them all if she gets ill. All my new birds are quarantined and get a drop of Ivomectin behind head regardless of whether they seem ill or not, as a preventative. I'd cage her and keep an eye on her for any illness, she may have already been breeding if she was a show cull. At 4 yrs she would be borderline for breeding but as a pet breeder I have had older hens than that breed successfully. She'd be worth a try.

Can Budgies Be Lesbians?
As you have breeding box's in aviary and if they are in breeding condition, could you some how divide aviary in half with a pair and 1 nest box in each side? If your prepared for the to breed that is, just a thought.

Can Budgies Be Lesbians?
It's more likely they are just checking out nest box's, I have heard of 2 hens using same nest box & rearing young but usually they will fight hammer and tongs over a specific nest. They will toss out eggs or young (or worse kill them, or mum) if they decide they want nest box, if you colony breed. Watch and see if either have bonded with a male and see the result then if they decide to breed. You may then have to separate the pairs if they cause trouble.

Moved Unfed Chicks
If she doesn't have more eggs I think I'd leave them with foster mum. As you said she was sitting on second chick, that's better than it being in the corner so she's kept it warm at least. Do you have any other eggs, that look clear you could put under her? (if she has no more eggs) If she sat on those maybe you could swap a chick back to see what happens. You don't want to risk your live chicks but she could be okay 2nd round. I'd give her another chance for the "maternal instinct" to kick in.

Lightning And Snow
Sounds like your breeding cycle is off and running. Good luck with it and don't forget pics. What did your 1st chick end up? Bl/Gr pied eg.

My Budgies Are Breeding Already?
Glad to hear you have managed to rear some young. Looking good. Is your pure white an Albino or d.f.spangle, looking at first picture looks like both are spangle so d.f. spangle I guess. Not that I can work out genetics. l.o.l It's like a lottery when you don't know what splits your birds are carrying. Half the fun I guess. Your hens will fight over nests if you colony breed, caged pairs work much better.

Help Looking After Chicks, In An Aviary...
If your hen didn't sit on eggs for four hours they may have chilled and could be d.i.s. is there any way of placing a cage type cover over bowl with chick and parents as well and leave it where it is? Just a thought.
