  1. Violet Cinnamon Opaline Spangle That is what gives it away. If she was normal spangle, I believe they would be grey? The Cinnamon markings are hidden byt he pied effect from the spangling, and then the opaline affect. I had a hen identical to yours. Your cock bird must also be split cinnamon.
  2. My bet is the hen is actually cinnamon as well.
  3. What does the foot look like? if it is read or scabby at all, or as KAZ said, has flaky skin (scaley mights) Then put a picture up, so we can help
  4. Is this one okay GB?
  5. Yes, that is pretty normal Alot of my baby budgies play with their feet.
  6. I Squeak_Crumble AS KNOWN ON THIS FORUM FROM South Australia OF Australia AGREE TO ALLOW ANY OF MY PHOTOS OF MY BIRDS FROM ANY OF MY POSTS THREADS ON THIS FORUM TO BE COPYED AND TRANSFORMED INTO PAINTINGS/DRAWINGS BY THE FORUM MEMBER KNOWN AS GENERICBLUE AND FOR THESE PICTURES/PAINTINGS TO BE DISPLAYED AS SHE SO CHOOSES DATED 22nd October OF 2011 Good luck GB!
  7. oh, like giant pavers? I getcha now Do you know where I could get them from?
  8. IF ? Dont give them the opportunity.......make sure whatever you use stops mice getting in. You will find cement slabs get given away fairly regularly. There's also flat tin you can get from signwriters...............old used signs, and mousemesh you buy by the metre. If it means leaving the birds where they are for awhile to you get it right then thats what you will have to do. If you take shortcuts now its a whole lot more troublesome to fix it later or to take the time later. PS nice aviary.......sizewise....how much more space are you getting if any ? Its really only two spaces around 6 foot by 6 foot........are you keeping any of your existing aviaries too ? Could I use pet-safe/security fly screen? that stuff is pretty darn strong. I don't have the money for a cement slab, trust me, that would be ideal! The place where the aviaries sit is pretty solid rock/dirt. The aviaries I have now in the same place have been there for at least a year with no mice coming through. I will be gaining alot of space. The length for my budgies is the same, and they are gaining another 40cm in width. they are also gaining an extra half a meter in height. My cockatiels and pet budgies have the biggest gain, the cockatiels have been quite squishy in the green aviary.
  9. As you can see, the aviaries are on a slope. I don't think it will sit flat. What I really wanted to do, was get 4 sleepers (wood) and put them in a rectangle. Sit the aviary on them, and fill the inside with gravel/dirt. This though, is going to cost alot of money to fill. I think what I am going to do, is still get the four sleepers (5 including division I guess). If mice start coming through, then I will need to find the money to fill in with dirt or gravel.
  10. Well, even though I had no replies, I went ahead and bought the aviary Tommorrow will be very exciting, I am getting the aviary. It will be a bit of a rush, BUT I will hopefully move all birds AND get the aviary setup in two days! I have no idea how it is all going to work, I will get there though. Birds will need to be crammed into 5 in a breeding cage, and my 3 flight cages being quite cramped. It will only be overnight though. I have about 50 or so budgies, with 5 breeding cages spare. If I can fit 5 in each, that's 25. maybe another 10 or so in a flight cage, and I have a couple other cages in the shed. My 5 cockatiels will need to go in seperate flight cages.....Cages everywere! But it's only overnight. Wish me luck!
  11. I will need to check, but I don't think they have any. Also RIP, are all of the birds dilute clearbodies? or just the yellows?
  12. I don't really mind as much about these dilute/clearwings, it was really the clearbody/opaline look one I was wondering about. Here are some more pictures.
  13. I don't know about the cock, the hen comes from a Violet Opaline Clearbody X Grey-Green Opaline Clearbody. So then hen could be.
  14. I agree, Has the biggest blow and directional feather. mask = fantastic! I would still love to have him in my aviary. Doesn't seem to have much body or width to the bird, and he doesn't look very long. The picture may be deceiving. He is still a nice bird though, but has some things that could be improved.
  15. Thanks Neville. Any idea's on the Clearbody looking one?
  16. I have had birds like the second, and once they have a fligh, preen, move etc, the feather settles. If I had one like the first, I would just pull it out.
  17. Anyone else? Is it possible to have a violet grey bird? If so, who would the parents be?
  18. It is like a violet bird, with a grey wash over them, some feathers violet, some grey. I will try and get a better picture. They are like grey birds -
  19. Seeing as no-one has commented in my questions in my breeding journal, I will just post here. Are these chicks clearwings or dilutes? Very Interesting chick.....very. My only violet birds are the opaline sky cock/clearbody X violet opaline clearbody. So all chick are opaline, and either clearbody or split. This chick is....like a grey bird. With violet. Violet Grey Clearbody....but the wings are almost opaline spangle looking? Or Dilute? I just said it could have only come from my Sky Blue Opaline/Clearbody Cock X Violet Opaline Clearbody Hen BUT I found this chick How am I getting grey violet's? My only other clearbody pair I have down is a light green opaline cock X grey-green violet opaline hen.
  20. Currently, these are the aviaries I own The one on the right is used for my show budgies, it's 1.7L , 1.4W , 1.7H The one on the right has cockatiels and pet budgies in it. It is a hexagon shape, with every side being .7 . It is 1.7H at lowest roof line. having the cockatiel's and budgie's together is a bit squeezy. I really would like a bigger avairy for them, but have not had the money so far. I think if I sell these two aviaries, I would have enough to purchase this one I found on gumtree. http://sa.gumtree.com.au/c-ViewAd?AdId=320221630&MessageId=MSG.VIEW_AD.REPLY_TO_AD_SENT&mpname=LocClass-R2S&mpuid=%3B320221630%3B67109696%3B3007257%3B18433%3B18456%3B%3B%3B%3B1318236748077&secev=AQAAATLojc4AAM0AAAACACIxMzJlZDA4NzkyZC5hMjBiMjZhLjczNjI0LmZmZmI2OWYxAAAAABMWMb4BAAAABQAAAAAa0nSAMqvY%2B9h3nH9zP8a6CiGH%2FmbTXMI* It is alot higher, at 2.4m high. It is split in two, so one section is 1.75 L , 1.8W. I have yet to contact seller about pickup, transport etc. and ask my dad, but what is everyone's idea on it?
  21. Thanks Renee, but most of them are guesses at birth dates, and no idea's of who to match to parents. First lot of chicks is in nursery aviary + cinnamon blue. I then upgraded the next 7 or so chicks to the nursery flight cage. I got about 4 opaline's out in this lot, and another 2 in nests. So 6 chicks from them all up. I am planning on putting them into my lutino's, as the cocks are split. This way, the flecking will not matter. I will cull the hen's I think. Dilute or Clearwings? I don't know... Have parents down as my normal pair. Clearbody looking nice- violet clearbody x sky opaline cock obviously. Violet looking VERY nice and chunky! I will put him in the nest feather show I think. And split clearbody if cock. Only blue and violet parents is the clearbodys.<br style="mso-special-character:line-break"> Now moving onto my nests. Still in nests - Pair 10- Lutino hen who I will put to a opaline split cock I hope Clearbody Violet<br style="mso-special-character:line-break"> Very Interesting chick.....very. My only violet birds are the opaline sky cock/clearbody X violet opaline clearbody. So all chick are opaline, and either clearbody or split. This chick is....like a grey bird. With violet. Violet Grey Clearbody....but the wings are almost opaline spangle looking? Or Dilute? Nest 9- Grey - from grey-green to blue normals? Light Green - Opaline Light Green Clearbody (from the two opaline clearbodies) I know I am pushing the blow up, but you can just see the nice head on it Nest 8 - The other 2 opalines Nest 7- Two more Violet opaline clearbodies
  22. Pair 5: All looking very good. I will enter the better spangle green, and the opaline blue in a nest feather on October 29th The opaline green is looking to have an incredibly clean mantle, stoked. (Next to Dad) Pair 6: Mum was getting a bit fiesty, one of the chicks has a bloody toenail but he may have just got it caught. Removed her anyway. I have been moving chicks into this nest as they age, and have the 5 oldest in there. 1 Blue TCB and 1 Violet (that's actually their's), the cinnamon blue, opaline green (obviously from pair 10) and normal green. Pair 7: (yellow clearbodies) They are on 5 chicks. They are not very good parents, chicks looking skinny. The youngest is also needing to be euthanesed, very very skinny and malnourished. Wished I had a foster. It is one of my two lute hens. Not in picture. I can't move any chicks up, will explain below. Pair 8: (normal green and blue) Mum is on the two chicks, and has been feeding them, but the nest does not look healthy at all. The chicks are looking alright, not thriving though. I can't move the chicks up to this nest, in case there is a sickness. Pulling my hair out. I have been topping chicks from both nests up. In the picture, there is 3 chicks, but I moved the dark grey up to the next nest. Has been putting on weight and is healthy, which makes me think it is not a sickness, but maybe the hen...? Pair 9: (lute X clearbody) On 4 chicks, doing very well. Looking to have a violet opaline, whose parents I assume around the blue/violet clearbody pair. Clearbody blues and violet's everywere Pair 10: chicks are thriving! 2 green opaline, and my first lute hen....and.... I have 2 clearwings in this nest. Turns out the birds I thought were pied's, are in fact Clearwings. I am putting the parents as the sky X grey green hen. I am very surprised. Not only are they clearwings, but they are looking to be the biggest and best birds as far as quality goes in this round! Foundation for a new line? Gave the nest a clean, topped up with shavings. Mum decided to re-design the decor Pair 11: Still 2 visual fallows, 4 non-red eyed. I have decided that I am not even going to RING the non-fallows. I will raise them as pets to sell, pretty violets and blues. Resist the temptation to test mate....
  23. Thanks GB. This will be the only time I change the pairing though, This cock bird was going to be the original partner to the hen, but I bought the green cock at an auction and just wanted to give him a test drive. I will be sure to repeat it though. Pair 3: (cinnamon blues) Discovered I did actually get a chick from them! The chick in the clearbody nest is actually a cinnamon blue. The grey cinnamon cock pictured above, is one I will put to her after a 7 day break Pair 4: Pair 5: They had 6 chicks, but the last one was looking a bit funny so I euthanesed it. Very pleased with my overall results from these. 2 Dark Green Spangle's, 1 Dark Green Opaline, 1 Normal Dark Green, 1 Sky Blue Opaline Spangle. All of the spangle's are looking the best quality, very very pleased on the markings on the 2 dark greens. I have a hen and a cock bird. The Opaline green looks like a hen, and the sky blue looks like a cock. Pair 6: They are on the only cinnamon blue's chick. Looking nice and big. I will be removing the clearbody mum in the next few days, as she has a past of killing chicks as they fledge. Pair 7: (yellow clearbodies) 6 chicks, all good Pair 8: (normal green and blue) I woke up this morning, to find the cock bird dead in nest The hen is on 5 chicks now by herself, and I can't move any chicks. The cock bird must have died of a sickness. Pair 9: (lute X clearbody) All doing good. 4 Chicks. Pair 10: Freakin devil hen, I swear. The chicks have been coming out of the nest, and as soon as I put my hand in there to put them in the nest, BOOM. At me like a cat is a mouse. I need to make sure I am wearing a jumped with sleeves. All are doing good though. 5 chicks. 1 Violet, 1 Blue Clearbody, Normal Green, Opaline Green, Green Pied. Pair 11: Whats this!? Another pair you may ask? Well, I had a spare cage open, so I decided to try the fallows again. First two chicks hatched yesterday..... 2 fallows I have 2 pied chicks crop up. I have come to 2 possible conclusions - 1. One of my pairs is are both split rec pied. It would be either my normal pair, my clearbodyXlute pair, or my lute hen to opaline cock. 2. However....! I am thinking that my lutino hen X Opaline cock bird are the parents. The chicks is looking to be grey green. But, if it is a dom.pied, then one of the parents would need to be a visual. This could mean the either lute pair are the parents. Because these chicks are the oldest though, I think it is the luteXopaline pair, as they were the first pair to have eggs. But, the clearbody henX lute cock is unlikely, as the hen would NOT be split rec.pied. So the cock would need to be a visual dom.pied. Will see what happens though.
