  1. I was just wondering if someone could PLEASE explain the genetics of my YF family! I sometimes look into yellowface genetics and know the basic rules. I cannot decide on what on earth half my pet type flock is though! It all originates around the one bird though, Apollo. If someone would please be able to explain what each bird is, and how the genetics have worked out, I would be very very grateful....Also, How will I get more like Chick 1 and 2? I sold the Mum, and I have never been able to get more... Apollo (he is a spangle and opaline, and split pied) Apollo had 5 chicks with a Violet Cinnamon Spangle (chicks 4 and 5 were normal blue and violet's) 1 2 3 is Phantom, a DF Spangle Apollo and Phantom Apollo has also produced the bird on the right, with the hen on the left. And, what type of pied's and yellowface are these two birds?
  2. I went out again and got some new pictures I only got the four birds though, I had others but none of them wanted to sit proper... all of these birds are pictures above I went through the 6 opalines I got (two grey-green's, two light greens and I believe two violet greens OR dark green's...) and have 5 hens and one male (a grey-green) the two grey-green's aren't special, I believe the light green's were the nicest, so I put them both in the one cage, and got the better hen....so the best sibling I believe. opaline sky blue spangle the one time he blows, It isn't focused... here's some more I took the other day when I was playing with some camera functions. dark green spangle (sister to above) light green normal (sister to other two spangles above) She keeps her blow quite flat and doesn't sit nice, then I caught her blowing once in the aviary so I figured I would snap some. I KNOW her father has killer width and blow. She was regurgitating (I think I am starting to get canker, so I put some ronivet in) and I got her just as she did....you see the blow a bit though. She finally called down and sat kind of nicely... Just an add-on....This bird isn't pictured much, but was another clutch-mate of what I refer to as my 'spangle clutch' The sky opaline, the two dark greens, the normal hen, and then this opaline...she is beginning to look half-alright And I got two new birds...Well, I bred them. There mum (of course she was my best bloody bird! Mother of all my gorgeous spangles I got out) was put to a very nice spangle cock bird, better then the father of these chicks. These were going to be my chicks of the year, I was hoping. She only got two, and the mum escaped from my cage. I am looking into getting 2-4 pairs of related birds, I know this will be the best for my stud...anyways, I didn't have a foster pair, so they were given to a friend to look after. I got a violet spangle, and a violet green opaline spangle. Quite tiny, but my fingers are crossed the hardest ever, once they moult...Woooah. Already, the little violet has markings to die for.... I am thinking about going half-brother to half-sister with on of the last 4 birds pictured above...
  3. the one on page 2? http://www.cityfarmers.com.au/catalogue/
  4. Sorry for the lack of update! Here are some pictures I took from when we were setting up to show you guys! Pavers for the bottom (they have mouse mesh under them) Bit of a gap, we put some mesh along it to keep escapee's from going back and forth! It has worked for a while, I have one cheeky tcb that has got through a few times though
  5. Thankyou both I did have some pictures from inside a show cage that I was going to post after someone commented, I can't seem to find them though...
  6. Anyone know about any yellowface tables?
  7. Top is male, second is hen.
  8. This isnt about food Squeak I was actually just mentioning it, it is general health care, as the OP was not clear in the original post. I don't think it is fair or healthy for a bird to not have food available at all times.
  9. Please refer to the original message, I have fresh food aka seeds and pellets, available 24/7 all day. Actually all they eat are seeds right now, they are very stubborn and would definitely starve themselves if I removed the seeds because they rarely touch pellets. We put harrisons bird builder supplement into their water for 2 weeks and we are bout to start making them bird bread with spray millet/ seeds/ and the harrisons pellets to try and get them to switch over to pellets. Sorry, its just in the original message you were not exactly clear...Seeds and pellets are not "fresh food" , normally when you talk about fresh food it means vegetables, fruits as such.
  10. Budgies should ALWAYS have seed available. You may infact be starving the birds, so they are looking for food.... please put a seed dish in, available all the time.
  11. Collard greens is a type of broccoli/cabbage I think...
  12. I think he has a bit more to go yet, clearbodies really only grow after the moult (or so I hear) here are some pictures: http://forums.budgiebreeders.asn.au/index.php?showtopic=31488 As for the show, all of them have lost the baby bars! my little ones are growing up! :'(
  13. here are some chicks from my breeding journal, out and about in the aviary and starting to moult! http://forums.budgiebreeders.asn.au/index.php?showtopic=31000&st=60 The opaline family is the best, they have dirty backs but quality HENS. I think all 6 are hens! two dark greens, two light greens, two grey-greens. Then I have some opaline clearbodies (5 grey/violet/blues, one yellow) , spangles, a lute, a few normals (green, grey and violet), 2 fallows, another opaline with a lovely clear back, and a cinnamon blue here's the little yellow clearbody, if anyone remembers him. He has a thumb print on his wing, but a lovely bright yellow... Violet opaline clearbody hen to sky blue opaline split clearbody cock. Their chick is the one with the darker melanin BUT more suffusion. Compared to the chick from two clearbody parents (and grandparents) with quite light wing markings, but less suffusion
  14. Sorry for the no updates....I haven't been as active lately. I have my last 6 pairs down, then will probably wrap up the breeding for the year. A few of those pairs are just play-around's. My nicest cinnamon recessive grey-green hen, to a double factor spangle green cock bird. Will be interesting, ad they are both very nice birds but not sure on the chicks. I have her son (grey-green cinnamon split opaline and rec.pied) to the cinnamon blue hen that's mate escaped. I have the sky blue cock/clearbody to a hen I borrowed from forum member Sunnie. I have the silly lutino hen that likes to nibble and is protective to that big beautiful light green cock bird. These are highly anticipated chicks, they are on 2 I think. I have YF Blue/clearbody cock (from forum member Sunnie as well) to a YF Grey Cinnamon Hen. They are on 4 chicks, from 4 eggs And my last pair is a small cobalt hen who I bred, nice girl, to a lutino cock. He is a bit old, they had 6 fertile eggs, first chick died of yellow belly, second one is still going, and egg 3 and 4 both pipped and died....something wrong there. Other two eggs are just there.
  15. Entry 11: Entry 12: (ignore dates)
  16. I don't think fertility has anything to do with show bird or pet. I have some pet's that have 4 eggs a clutch, 3 fertile. I have some shows that have 8 eggs a clutch, with all fertile. You also have the other side, such as pets with 10 eggs and 7 fertile, or show birds with 4 eggs fertile out of 4. I
  17. Precisely! Get it wrong and it just doesn't bear thinking about the consequences, does it? New branches have arrived and the birds were straight into them! The branches are completely safe though?
  18. I think I may have some cropping up as well, not serious like you though. I have heard lemon will keep it at bay? does anyone know if it is all citrus fruits (eg. orange) , or just lemon?
  19. how is the hand-rearing going?
  20. I have the same plant, and have given it to the birds. Does it have a kind of plastic sheen to it? topside only..
  21. You're really good Flip!
  22. I know that flip, but you can still use it to your advantage. I dont agree with any of the points that I stated, but sometimes in debating that's the way the penny drops, and you need your mind to be flexible to ignore your beliefs.
  23. If your mind is set in the mind of the affirmative side, that can be quite a good thing. If you are second or third speaker, you can use this to your advantage. If you prepare rebuttal, it will help you with your speech delivery and give you concrete words/notes to read from. Being first speaker you would also use minimal rebuttal, because the affirmative speaker will speak first. But the main job of the first negative speaker is to summarise their team's main split and present the first 3 points, and the next three that their second speaker will have. But if you believe you have good rebuttal, discuss with your team mates and see if you can swap speeches around. It may be very easy to think for the positive side, because this is generally what the public's opinion is, but it isn't the belief's the adjudicator have themselves, a debate is judged on many things. If your side has strong speakers, with good and proper structure, then it could fit in easily with a few good points. As fair as points for your case, I think you should have a strong split in how fast food benefit's society as a whole for your first speaker, and then have how fast food benefit's a household or single person. Below are a few points I have thrown around in my head. You should tie in be able to tie in the government support by mentioning the positives of it. Speaker 1 - how it benefit's society It supports the time for people traveling through offering jobs ----> specially for high-school students ----> which later will help them in life because they learn about workplace and money when they are in their teenage years offer's space in the town to hang out/ keep teen's out of trouble Speaker 2 -benefit's family's easy to grab on the way to work single mum's who are trying to support children --> not enough money to spend on fresh food/or enough time due to work commitments, which is linked back to them needing money to support their family, so they need to work. I am going to guess one of their major points will be the health reasons. HOWEVER, it is posisble to have healthy food. For places such as McDonalds, that have the tick approval, or Subway that offer the 5 grams or less of fat or whatever it is. Research different fast foods, an maybe compare then to a home meal which would maybe have worse ingredients/bigger fat content etc. mention how fresh is not always best, in case of frozen vegetables being fresher because they are frozen immediately. Hope this has helped
  24. so are you positive or negative? I am a bit confused reading sorry :/
