  1. It CAN be up to 8 days some wil start laying earlier, some later. To tell she would have a slightly swollen vent just before laying maybe a day before. She would be spending lots of time in the nest box, clean or stratching or just sitting there. Hope this helps a bit.
  2. If you look at the the picture at the bottom of my posts the ones on the end (first and last) are the parents.

OHHHH Pictures I can't wait

oh now I understand why you have a hole I didn't know you had cut it to fit the box. Question from pm- How did your dad fix it?
  7. Oh this is the little white baby Yeah I would say s/he just need to get more exprience with flying I had one baby learn the use of her wings quickly and was jumping/flying out of the next onto the branch and the others having to climb about.

Yes that does help The fact he had grey feet would mean a dark beak would seem normal for him. I'm not sure about his age, it seems a bit odd normally the darker colour faded by about the second week out of the nest. Yep Thats the way I would see it. Bulling- well It could happen I will not state that it will not, but with only the two of them they should just bond without a problem and be best of mates. If you are worried when the time come to let then meet and play togther then for night time I would put them back in their own cage, the the only time they are together is when you are there to watch them. Your poor little man I'm glad he found a great Ma I would think the petshope bulling was more down to over crowding or need of food. The way a lot of the shops just pack them in I have a budgie who is the biggest is the whole family but he is not the boss. You never know your little sky blue might be ready to stand up for himself now hope this helped
  9. okay as pixie25 said you will find lots of information over in the breeding area. Also I would suggest finding some books about budgies to read, your local library should have a few. To me the cages sound a bit small for one budgie let alone two. Are you planing on making a space for them in your aviary? Or are do you have all the bird in together, that can work as long as each type of bird have there own space to get away from the others. Now, breeding cage, well I would say the bigger the better. Something around 15 X 25 inches would be a nice size. Now I'll try not to confuse you with colours too much but there are two ways to get an all yellow or all white budgie. If your yellow ones have red tinted eyes then they are called Lutino. If not they are dark-eyed clears. With the white ones the same thing again. A red eye means Albino a normal eye means dark-eyed clear. Confused yet? IF you don?t care then just skip over this, but if you are interested with breeding it does help to have knowledge of the genetics and how they come about so you can set about getting the colour you want. These would be pied birds. the blue and white ones sound a bit like recessive pieds, you can tell if they have a white ring around their eye called a iris, If the DO then they are Dominant, if not Recessive. Theses are normals in the blue line and green line of colours I've read that these are good to have in your breeding stock to keep genetics strong. Hope this didn't mess you all up and I hope to hear more about how your new flock is getting on, tell us which ones have you paired up? Any chance of seeing some pics?

The only HEATHLY reason I know for a black beak is young age but they can also have a bright orange one. That depends a bit on the colour of the bird and gentics of the parents. The size might be becuase your boyfields one is from show budgie parents (or just one) making his bigger. Is this black ness around the edges more or all over? The line down the middle well they do have a bit of a gap along the beastbone were no feathers are, it could be as simply that your little one is moulting and making it stand out more. Or is a different feather colour? I have seen a picture of a budgie with a slightly different feather colour in a line down the middle, from green to a blue green. Umm can't think of any other suggestion for you now, keep up updated

REMOVE THE NECT BOX !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! *Cough* sorry now that I have your attention, if she has not laied for so long and it sounds like she had just had a clutch of eggs then it is time to take the box off or out of the cage to give her a break, this should also help with the anger. Your should only have two clutches of eggs in one breeding circle, then you need to give the parents a break so they can get back up to stengh. Is the kid still been feed by the dad? Or is s/he feedin him/herself? If it's the later then their would be no hassles by getting her/him a cage of her/his own. If it's the first well as stated before removal of the next site should settle the hen down greatly. let us know how it goes.

wow you were lucky, it sound like she atarted this next clutch late some start laying when the young are still a week or so away from coming out of the box But as graemesmith has stated all is normal.

DO NOT ADD ANOTHER MALE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! If you add another male then she would hurt him. She will need extra food around for her but she can do it, if it is a large clutch (or might be) then if you can move some over to another pair. I don't know if you have another pair or not but it would help the single hen if she only had two or three babies to raise than five or six. Hope this helps any others question just asks away.
  14. Err Did you breed this budgie or get it from some one??? If you got it from some one I would stay it was taken from the nest too early. I would connect the leg climbing to wanting to hide back in the nest box. If you can put a small cardboard box in the bottom of it's cage and it may feel happier and safe. As to the falling, has it got full wings? Umm I would suggest not putting him/ her up so high until you?re sure s/he is flying correctly. Is s/he okay with you handling him/her? If you are the breeder well I?m not sure how the parents would teat it now that s/he has been taken from them. Any single budgies, males would be the best. If so put them together, the male might start to mother it (as if it was his own baby.) I will warn you I've only read about this bit in a book on budgie breeding. That an older male will (should, might) take over the caring of newly fledge babies.

Wood shavings. You can get some from a pet shop they are useally used for flooring in rats or mise flooring, but it's okay for budgie. Some even have budgies listed as safe to use on.

I would give her more time, at least she is going in there. The hard part for them is the raising of chicks more than egg laying, As long as she has a cuttle fish or some other form of calsium then it shouldn't hurt her. Mine laided 13 eggs all up and she is fine. (only six in the box, four hatching and three living to full age) I'm sure Hath will back me up with that He is the one that told be the laying of eggs is not what tires them out. How many has she had? Have you got anything inside the box for bedding? Some budgies like something in there others don't but by the sound of what she is doing with the paper she wouldn't. Taking from your first post date she should have only laided 7 eggs, they can laid up to nine in one clutch.

YAY glad I seemed to help some folks out with an idea Yes Julie it's raw, Mine love it on the ground as rings, they fight over it and rip it up and kick it about Antt Yes I think the frozen suff would be fine Iw ould just let it thraw out and give it to them raw, if cause it would not be as good as the fresh stuff just like it would be for us, but it can't hurt them. Stains, well three yellow faces one white and I didn't notice Pie had stains on him, well he does't eat it as much as his kids do. :(Laughing out loud):

You know it's not the best thing to use human products on pets, dogs in particular since they have a different ph level to us and it could do more harm than good.

The other day I was having a look in the pet shop near my place (I always just have a look, never buy) And saw that they had some corn on the cob in their budgie cages, so I brought one to try with my and Marine was the first to try this new yellow round thing in the cage but soon they were all digging into it. The next day I couldn't put it in fast enough for them. :(Laughing out loud): Just wondering if any one else had ever offered corn to their budgies. Not only do they get some yummy treat but once all the corn is gone they have a play toy in the shape of the cob (I did cut it into small pieces about three rows wide) Ringo it seems loved to play with it becuase the corns resting spot was the water, which she loved to throw stuff into :bluebudgie:

Is this her first time breeding? It sounds like it :bluebudgie: You would great a lot of help from searching the board for breeding topics and reading the posts. But to answer your questions here, YES it is okay to leave the two together in fact you must for it is the male that feeds the hen while she is sitting on the eggs and when the chicks are older he starts to take over the feeding of them. As to laying on the cage floor my girl did this to me and I was very worried, but she finally worked out where to lay them. If the eggs on the cage floor are broken remove them so as not to get bacteria in the nesting box with future eggs because that can kill the chicks inside. Is she going in the box? I'm not sure about this but I would think about shifting the eggs into the box so she gets the idea? Or if they are all broken but in a marble or two as fake eggs and she may start laying new ones with them. Hope this helps you somewhat
  21. okay if that was what the vet said I would find a new vet!!!! They are one or the others from the start just like humans, it's just that we are not the best at picks which on they are when they are young. THe signs are sometimes very small, and it doesn't help that we connect blue to boy and pink to girls because most times in young budgies they are the opposite.
  22. *Nerwen* replied to a post in a topic in Food And Nutrition
I've always thought of them as treats I've never brought them but, I saw the price and freaked, plus my girl Freckle just chews things like that to bites. The seed sticks last maybe half a day she will just sit there and break it up until it is all gone, telling the rest of them away from it. But looking at that list I can't see a reason that they can't have it every day, but still I would just follow the packet, if your bird like budgiedude birds rip into enjoying it as something special then I would leave it like that, if your bird on the other hand leaves it alone unless hungry then I can't see why it can't be given everyday. :bluebudgie:
  23. this doesn't sound too good. Yes a vet may be the answer but you stated before that it's hard to get to one and even then they might not be able to help you. Thata is a judgement you have to make for youself. For now just try and make it as easy for him as possable. Put the branchs down closer to the cage floor so if he does fall off them there will be less chance to hurt himself. If you can put more branches in there for him to ove about on. He may of in fact had a heavy molt. Was there suddenly a LOT of feathers about? If that's the case he may just need a bit of time to let the new ones grow out fully. I can't say for sure that this is it, one I don't even know if he did molt at all and two I can only read what you have put up.
