  1. You didnt get the sellers details ? Found this ad on Trading Post............... CRESTED BUDGIES ALL, colors, all show birds. (03)97056194, NARRE WARREN No I didn't get the seller's details. Eeek. Never occurried to me. If I really had to I could contact the club and find out. I've seen that ad, thanks. I called a week ago. The guy has the cresteds listed in the Trading Post, on Petlink, and several other places. I asked if we could come around and look. He refuses to sell them privately, he was just telling everyone who rang that he'd be at the Peninsula bird show selling them next month. Highly frustrating . Why bother advertising in the Trading Post if you're not going to sell them??
  2. Yeah, but not as many. Hmm. Does anyone here have 1 or 2 crest-breds they wouldn't mind selling? :boogie:
  3. Thanks :boogie:. But on that note, do you think it'd be better to split them and pair each with crest-breds, like most people have suggested? The thing is, if I go to buy some, I have to trust whoever is selling me them cause I have no way of knowing if they're crest-bred just by looking.
  4. okay, so all babies will be blue spangles?
  5. Eyes are black, she's 1 year old and is actually fairly tame. So is the cock. They let me pick them up and hold them and they just sit there, no biting at all. What I meant to say was, he's bred previously but not with her. I'm not sure what his mate looked like. She hasn't bred yet.
  6. Oh okay, interesting. One was 06 and one 08. I'll have a look now. okay, cock 2006, hen 2008. Breeder told me the cock has previously bred and produced blue spangle cresteds. Oh right. What factors (besides obvious genetic flaws) come into consideration when choosing who to inbreed with?
  7. Yeah after I started this thread I read a whole lot about crested genetics. One thing I didn't read though was breeding offspring with their opposite parent . Doesn't that result in genetic problems, sick birds with 2 heads kinda thing? Like if a person bred with their own parent. How does it work? I thought all pure whites were albino. What is a pure white with black eyes then? I'm pretty sure they are black. We can swap her if you've got another crested hen with a full crest but bigger . lol I'm going to be getting some more crests and crest-breds so I can have a real good go at breeding them. :boogie:
  8. Oooh excellent! :boogie: Cock #1 sure is a handsome boy. What colour have you bred #2 with? Do the babies turn out tufted, crested or half crested?
  9. Nevermind, scrap that last question. After reading articles on the genetics of cresteds, I've learned a lot and still want to learn more. :boogie:
  10. Whoa :hooray: . This is another old topic I'm digging up, but I'd love to see how your cresteds turned out all grown up MB? The more I read about cresteds, the more fascinated I am. I think I'm in love :hooray:. I'd love any help you could offer with breeding them please :hooray: .
  11. I know I'm digging up an old topic. Libby, I just wanted to see what the cresteds turned out looking like? :hooray:
  12. Oh :hooray:. Why is that? I didn't realise that. :hooray: Those names are cute. I've already got a tiel named Punk. I like Rooster and Duckula. One of my other males is called Plucka, after Plucka Duck :hooray:.
  13. What do you do to create light and ventilation in a breeding room?
  14. I was thinking it was possible they have the same father. There's only one single male in that aviary, his name is Boof. There is this bird too, named Olive. I'm unsure of it's sex, but it could possibly be the father. I started another thread asking about it's sex. I can't wait til the feathers start growing to see what colour the babies will be .
  15. How come? I don't name all my birds, only because I run out of interesting names . About 25 are named though. Do Cresteds have any different requirements to normal budgies? Especially when it comes to breeding?
  16. I went to the Gippsland Avicultural Society bird sale today. Anyone else go? If you did, I probably walked right past you cause I don't know faces here . Here are my new pair of Crested Budgies. A sky blue cock and albino hen. I've been wanting to breed Cresteds for a while now, but the only ones I could find within driving distance were $100 pair. I got these for $50 the pair. Before you ask, yes they're in quarantine . Any name suggestions?
  17. Nope, daddy budgie didn't hang around to feed the babies. Well he's in the same aviary, but he's not bonded with either hen, cause I've never seen them together. The two hens play mum and dad. They've got an unusual bond, but whatever arrangement they've got with the babies is working well. I'm pretty sure both hens laid eggs, because none of my others have laid 9 eggs before. 6-7 per clutch seems to be the most I've seen. A couple now have changed colour, so I think they might not be fertile. But I'll leave them in a few more days.
  18. Yep, they're doing just fine. The blue hen plays daddy and goes in search of food, while the green hen plays mummy and feeds the babies. They're being well fed and looked after by both mums . Still got no idea who the dad is .
  19. Thanks, I love my birdies .
  20. The 2 bonded hens now have 4 babies in their box!
  21. How come? They are very cheap and make great aviary floor cleaners. Yeah Quails are funny little things. I did have 2 pairs of the larger Japanese Quails, but the Melbourne heatwave in January killed one pair . Rubberneck's partner is a one-eyed male named Cyclops. My smaller King Quails are pretty good breeders too. Here they are plus some of their babies:
  22. Rainbow Lorikeets were taken off the licence list in Victoria about 8-10 years ago. Not sure about other states. I'd love a pair of Scaley Breasted Lorikeets. They are surprisingly cheap for licenced birds.
  23. These are the blue and white one's parents, if this helps: The only close-ups I have right now of the cere. These make it look brown but it's as pink as a baby's.
