  2. I went to a sale night on Friday night wanting to get another pair of show budgies...which I did. I want pair of cinnamons. I got a opaline green/yellow pied hen and a light green normal cinnamon cock. The cock is on the bottom of the cage most of the time pacing front and back...I have never seen this behaviour continuly before....He is an 2008 bird...just wondering id he could be a dud so to speak. He doesn't seem too dominate Any sugestions on if this is okay or Not!!! Thanks

Hey, My king quail hatched 5 babies bout 4 weeks ago also. The babies don't need the mother at all from hatching, they are right on their own from day one, as long as heat is provided, food , water to them. Do you have a lamp the the mother and remaining chicks??? If so make sure its a coloured or at least frosted globe. They tend to peck eachother when lights too bright, and colours globes like red, blue etc mask the blood. Prevents pecking!!!! In future when the few days before hatching remove the father out. They can get very agressive towards the chicks....even killing them. Hope this helps...

  9. Hi, I posted last week about my hen who ate her eggs.....( who does that) My question is will she always be an egg eater.....don't know if I should put her down to breed again in a few months>> Just wondering if they are repeat offenders of egg eating... Cheers NOWBUDGIE
  10. Thanks for that!!! They are of breeding age...what will make the cock eat the eggs??? though here I'm quite sure it was the hen that did because she had all over her>>>>> Cheers
  11. Hi, Just noticed my hen just ate her first egg she is due to lay again today..... Why did she eat it and will she eat all the rest as she lays.....she didn't eat it right away it was layed two days ago!!! She was very protective over it when I saw the egg at first...... Any sugestions why or how I can prevent it from continuing>>>> Thanks
  12. I never had an issue at all......if anything it was war between the budgies only at times. The grassparrots never interfered with anything at all to do with the budgies (living, eating, breeding etc). Grassparrots are very placid natured birds...I had them for many years together!!! Hope this will help... Just monitor them regulary
  13. It will be 100% fine to mix grassparrots with budgies... I also had them mixed in a large aviary for years with no issue at all, they will be okay. Grassparrots and the budgies just do their own thing together... LEAVE THEM TOGETHER>>>
  14. Thanks for all replys!!! I consider good looking as really mixed coloured pieds... Im a huge fan of pieds!!! Wanted to try get....some good colouring out of the male I have and mix with a good coloured female.....So really Pieds i'd like!!! Cheers

  17. HI PEEPS, I HAVE A PAIR 2 YEARS OLD THEY ARE...... THEY HAVE BEEN PAIRED OFF AND HAVE BONDED EXTREMELY WELL. THE HEN SPENDS TIME IN THE BREEDING BOX, ITS BEEN MONTHS SHE HAS GONE INTO OUT OF BREEDING CONDITION AND IS AGAIN NOW. I NOTICE THE MALE WANTS TO MATE WITH HER...SHE IS VERY AGRESSIVE IF HE TRIES, BITING AT HIS FEET. SHE SEEMS REALLY ROUGH....OTHER THAN THAT THEY BOND AND HE FEEDS HER CONSTANTLY!!! I HAVE BREED BUDGIES IN A COLONY YEARS AGO WITH GREAT SUCESS..... BUT CABINET BREEDING ISN'T HAPPENING AT ALL FOR ME...I HAVE BEEN PATIENT. I'M JUST WONDERING IF I SHOULD GET ANOTHER HEN...OR TRY AND SWAP HER OR SOMETHING??? THANKS NOWBUDGIE BREED LOL
  18. Hi, I just wanted to know how often does a hen come into season??? I know its when her cere is really dark and flaky..... Mine hen was Dark now its lighten right down.... How long does the process of going dark and ready take again Cheers NOWBUDGIE
  19. Not sure about Dna sexing and how its done... My brother breeds them this looks like a female to me because of the markings on its tail. The pieds and normals are much easier to sex visualy than other mutations.. So thats what I think!!! D
  20. THanks all for your input... Cheers Kaz for that info.... Taken all into account, looks like cage is goin to the dump!!! I guess you live and learn ay!! Cheers>>>>>
  21. Hi, I have just been give a good sized cage, it was a bit rusty but other than that its an awesome cage, good breeding size!! I have just spray painted it chrome, just wondering if its safe for the birds?? Has anyone else done the same, and it's okay??? Cheers NOWBUDGIE
  22. Thanks Chrissy The Hen looks Ready to me her cere is brown (dark) but not so crusty!!! I'm sure the cere on past hens I've had has had the same colour as this hen does... could be wrong though!! The male isn't baby like, and he was paired with another hen when I got him....didn't like her at all so got him another!!! That made me think he know what to do
  23. Cheers thanks for that!!! Also I wanted to know if my couple don't bond....could I get another male and keep the other male in the same breeding cage, would'nt want to put him on his own... Don't think it will be a good idea to get a female ay!!! Thanks NOWBUDGIE
  24. Hi All, I have posted before in regards to pairing budgies.....But have a question.. My Hen is 13months old and the cock is bout9months old, Now when I purchased them I noticed the cock had a mate already... One which I didn't want. I have know had them for 2 weeks together with no interest in each other... I have noticed the hen attacking the male at his feet not to much though, just if he's in her way..... Just wondering if there is still a chance of them pairing up considering the above!!! Cheers NOWBUDGIE :28:
