I awoke this morning to find that my older chick at 4 weeks died, just like that, there were no signs what so ever. It was strong and healthy last night!!! I don't understand, how can this happen and is it common at all??. there nothing pointing to the reason>>>> It had splayed leys which were 100% fixed, gave it calivet to beak for 6 days stopped 5 days ago though.....could that be the reason!!!! Has this happened to anybody else??????????

Chick With Splayed Legs
Hi,I posted photos of the chick I've had an issue with....up untill today it was constantly on its back . It's now upright I didn't know what the problem was at all.....I just but a makeup pad on to correct the splayed legs and the mother is always chewing at the sponge......Also what if the chick flips over on its back with the sponge could that be dangerous or okayCould that be a sign of rejection...as mentioned that it may happen...I have been giving them calcium and plenty of greens mostly everday...chick seems strongerJust wondering by the pix....if anyway can tell what the issue is??? Rickets....just splayed legs Here they are again>>>>>>>>>>>

Baby Budgie On Back Always
Thanks Kaz, It's always on its back constantly...others are upright, I realise mum puts them on their backs to be fed but this one ( the oldest ) is always on its back like a dead position with legs spread out. I put it upright and it's legs seem strong but it looks like it can't stay up....it's head keeps falling back, and is only comfortable on it's back it seems.... i looked and there no redness on its legs or joints, so don't know really.. Has anybody seen this before...

Feather Cysts
My hen 3 year old hen just went through a molt and got a feather cyst. It was okay at first but in the last few days has grown much larger about the size of a marble. Its constantly bleeding....( don't want her to bleed to death) I had been advised to put aloe vera on it...which I have...Still preety bad at this stage.. Question: I read to tie the cyst off and that should get rid of it and try remove as much of the feather as possible. Is this okay and safe to do???? Do they recover from it?? I know It can be surgically removed also??

Breeding Quails
All the globes that put out heat have been pulled off all shelves of all stores in Australia. Only energy saver globes can now be bought, and they do not throw out heat. http://forums.budgiebreeders.asn.au/index....4&hl=globes Yeah I Know....but here there are alot of small corner shops/ Convenience shops that still stock alot of the old globes

Breeding Quails
Hi, I also breed Chinese painted quails more know as King quails or Button.. Are the babies in a large avairy??? If so when they hatch you will need to seperate the mother and babies into another cage or put bricks around a corner with mess over it to keep mum and the babies in small space. One reason for them dying is they are not able to maintain their body heat....they easily stray away from the mother get cold and quickly lose conscience. Thats why you should keep them close together large cage is a no no.... Also put a 40 watt coloured light for extra heat. Where the babies bleeding at alll that died....They also could have been attacked by the father which is common. Hope this helps

Help Me
So do you still have one alive????
-
Help Me
Hey, Sorry to hear that...... You don't need to Hand rear them at all, they are able to feed and drink for themselves after 24 hours of hatching. MOst important thing for them is warmth....Food and Water. Were they in a aviary???? Move the mother and baby into seperate small cage with a lamp for heat 40 watt..... Or you can live the young chick on its own, it will be fine as long as it wasn't hurt to bad. You sure it was the budgies that attacked them....It could have been the father and is some rear cases the mother can mass kill their young Hope this Helps

Fluffed Up Birds!
Hi, I have a cock budgie...he is paired up with a hen ( not bonded though ). He is not very active at all, I have had him for a few months. I have noticed him all fluffed up always, but today he is more fluffed up than usual!! Should I leave him on his own...Don't think he is too well maybe??? And don't want to pass it to other birds....Or is it okay to leave. I know when birds that were fluffed and died didn't effect the others from what I saw in the avairy, as I don't have a large avairy now thats why. Don't know what previous owner feed him...but all my other birds eat Greens and fruit I give, he has never touched anything other than seed>>>>> Also is it normal for them to fluff up and be okay.... And my success at breeding so far = ZERO LOL

Budgie Has A Bad Eye
Early this morning I noticed my budgie I just got with a bloody eye. I caught him to get a closer look...It's like jelly around the eye socket slightly bloodly. He has been very active since getting him....like a budgie on speed LOL I also noticed him rubbing his face on the cage metal. Another budgie has done the same for awhile but nothing has happenrd like this one. I also got cages and nest from a breeder selling out and I did clean and disinfect them...Just wondering if there could be something around them. Could this be an infection or did the hen do this...she has been aggressive towards him. How could I treat it?? how can I put something on its eye to treat without harming it?? Sorry the pictures are not great/// Please help

Budgie Pacing
..... The cage is those metal flight cages which can be divide into two...they have the whole cage though so not confined at all, I'm against small cages even for breeding. He has settle down now and noticed him even late in the arvo whens its not that hot him on the perch with his wings open apart as they do in hot weather, none of my others are doing it. but will peg and cover the cage side and see. Thanks
