Pearce's Budgerigar Blog
What is in the Seed mix from Karlos? I feed mine. Plain Seed 2 canary, 1 French, 1 jap, 1/2 red panican and a touch of Niger. Water is plain to every 2 lts I add 2.5ml weak iodine. 4 days a week. Plain water with avicleans the rest of the week unless they are moulting and then I add Moulting aide. Soft Food every day is 1 large carrot & Beetroot grated, Baby Spinach leaves and Parsley (spinach and paisley blended) to this I add 1/2 table spoon pentivite this is made up for a week. Every morning and night they get 6 table spoons of this mixture, 1 table spoon whole egg powder, 1 tablespoon of Finch Soft food, 1 cup of hulled oats and 2/3 to 1 cup of budgie starter. Saturday and Sunday they get veggies (carrots, celery, mung bean, snow pea sprouts and corn) in the late afternoon. They have True grit & charcoal in the holding cages and breeding cabinets and True grit in the flights. The breeding and holding cabinets are cleaned and disinfected with FS10sc once a week and so are the flights. I don't hose. I scrape and vacuum every week. High pressure cleaner in the flight and breeding room twice a year. I know I haven't answered your question just putting up what I do. But I am interested in what the seed mix is. You are either missing something ..... Calcivite? (thinking out aloud) It has D. How are your birds getting their D? Mine is in the True Grit and Calcivite. Your birds can't process the calcium you are giving them with out D. If this is so the Phosphrous levels will be out. What about Iodine? There is Iodine in True Grit. I know you have the eggs for protien which is good.

okay I've had a talk to Henry. Your idea with the bleach is fine. Henry cleans out his flights every week end with Bleach. Henry thinks it's a deficiency in nutrition.

Pearce's Budgerigar Blog
Pearce, I would set about doing a big clean. Put the birds in a cage and give the aviary a good scrub. I'd use a good strong bleach. You can get it at a shop. Cheap too. Water it down as sugested and give everything a good scrub. Then hose it all out and let dry. If you can get some AIL from vetafarm. Pet shops sell it. give the place a good spray. What do you feed your birds on and what about the water. Discribe your management for us. Kaz and others can have a look at this. I am going over to Henry George's tonight, but will look at it when I get back. Don't give up yet. You have some top birds, especially for a beginner.

Apple Cider Vinegar, Vitamins..?
I used to use a teaspoon per 1000ml of water for the ACV. It also has good probotic qualities. Water type of vitamins did you get....? I wouldn't feed sesame seed to budgies as it is not on the normal list... Someone else could answer this one.

Swine Flu.........does It Affect Budgies?
WHO has 6 levels of pandamic. The swine flu is currently rated at level 4. We have been told that the Australian Government is prepared for this event and have been stock piling medications, masks and gloves. If you don't feel well... get checked out. Minor cases don't have a problem. Most of the deaths in Mexico was from patients that presented themselves very sick and in the later parts of the illness.

Purchasing Budgies
The birds will and can breed in the seed dishes. It is rare but does happen. But I don't think we should encourage people, especially the youngsters on the forum, to try to breed the show birds at such a young age. The experience breeders know the bes time to pair up. The birds will tell them. But the inexperienced breeders will try to pair up birds at any stage and wonder why they didn't have success or why the hen died. My suggestion to the ones starting out is to leave the hens and cocks to 12 months old before trying to breed them. Learn what to look for in breeding condition before pairing up. You will have a better chance at geting chicks than if you try them too young and out of condition.

Natural Remedies.
.... can some one reinterate WHY you use ACV? I used to use it all the time and when ask, I really couldn't answer them so I stoped using it. I think you need to sit back and say, I use ?????? because. If you can't answer it, either find out why or stop using it. I used to use it for Mega but I found out that increasiing acid in the digestive tract by either ACV or Citric Acid (citus Friut) was causing it and not helping it.
