  1. Splat I have only one thing to say about those birds.. Girl you rock.... As Kaz said You are on a winning streak Buddy Keep it up and I'll be seeing you at the Nationals..
  2. Sorry fixed my mistake... LvD is a visual Violet not Sky violet. getting late in the day. To be a Mauve you have to mate a cobalt (or visual violet) and a mauve or cobalt. They can be visual violets... Cobalt Violets. One being effected more than the other by the cinnamon gene Budgerigars carry two dark factor genes. If there are no Dark Factors you get a Light green or Sky blue. One dark factor and you get a dark green or Cobalt Two dark factors and the bird is olive or Mauve There is also the grey factor and violet factor. These need to be on one of the dark factors. In a cobalt LD the violet can be carried on either eg. LvD or LDv. the outcome is very different. If it is carried on both LvDv we say that it is a double factor violet.
  3. There's my old eyes again.. Well you've answered the question. a no factor dark factor to a double factor dark factor. Also the violet. With this we can see what the outcome could be. LvL x DD = LvD = Visual Violet LvD = Visual Violet LD = Cobalt LD = Cobalt In this case the Violet must be on the no factor dark factor As the Cock is split Cinnamon we know that both these birds are Hens. but can't be mauve.
  4. Well a Double Factor yellow face or golden face is a white face bird. Unless it's a green series and then the yellow face is masking the double factor. We do have Yellowface Series 2 birds here in Australia but what we have lost is the Australian Yellowface which is a more buttercup yellow. The photo appears to me to be a Yellowface Series I hen and quiet cute at that. The Yellowface series II has the yellow bleeding into the body causing the sea green effect in the blue series and a yellowy grey in the grey. If you google ParBlue and ParParBlue it should give you the YFII and GFII birds.
  5. You have two cinnamon greys. The cinnamon gene not only changes the black melian to brown it also lightens the body colouring and sofens the feather. I would guess that you have two greys, one is carrying a dark factor and so is darker than the other. What was the parents?
  6. Why do you want to feed them pellets? Good seed mix is the best. Budgerigars eat what they need at the time. Especially during breeding or moulting. They will eat more of one type and then change to eat more of something else whan needed. Pellet diets can't give them that.
  7. Probibly the best thing is when the sun goes down, cover them. Mine are up till 7:30pm Uncover at Dawn. I feed mine about 5:30am as I leave for work just after 6:00am But the main lights come on at 7:00am.
  8. Heath i was with Janice Al-Nasser last year when she commented on Bluey say that he would have won the BS if shown there. No that is a great comment from her. I believe that we can produce birds as equal to the best in Europe and UK. Why couldn't we?
  9. They are magnificent aren't they. But there is many reason the birds are that way. In breeding, Line breeding, Climate, Feeding. To name a few. Remember that Australia stopped exporting Budgerigars before World War II. During World War II there was no food and so many breeders had to decide which birds to keep as all couldn't be feed on the small amount of seed that was available. Many birds were lost. After the war Australia still refused to export birds and so the Breeders were forced to line or in breed the birds. The European breeders were used to this as they have done it successfully with many animals. Most of the birds in England could be traced back to a few that survived the war. Most birds in England and Europe are related in some way. The climate is also colder and promotes the growth of feather. The feeding is also different because of this. You will see a lot more Cod Liver Oil in their diets. I've tried that level of CLO and killed a lot of my birds as they got too fat and their livers failed due to it. We are getting up to their standards. But we must becareful to keep our varieties pure. They have lost the Clearwing and many other varieties because their sights were set on size and not variety.

Does any one else have Ideas on their nest boxes? I am still using the one above with only a few changes. The concave is now 40mm and the hooks are a bit different but that's about all.
  16. The cocks will also be split for Opaline. Now the Violet factor. I assume that it is a visual violet which is a violet cobalt. The out come could be. 50% Skyblues 50% violets (Violet factor is on the dark factor) Or 50% Sky violets and 50% Cobalts. (Violet Factor is not on the dark factor) It depends on which dark factor the violet factor is on.
  17. 50% Spangle 25% normal and 25% Double Factor. Depending on with sex is the Spangle opaline. Cock the hens will all be Opalines. Hen the Cocks will be split opaline. 50% Spangle 25% normal and 25% Double Factor. All will be split Greywing. Which is the cock and which is the hen? For violet see my topic on the violet gene. It is not straight forward to perdict.
