Alan...what happened I didn't see you at the meeting.. Never mind there is others.
  2. Yes Violet is another gene.. Thanks Nerwen.. I fixed it up
  3. okay The Male's Phenotype (what he looks like) is a recessive colbalt pied. His Genotype (what hi genes are) is a Single Dark Factor Blue mutant 1 recessive pied. (so far as I know from the breeding) The Female's Phenotype is a Green Cinnamonwing.... What is her Genotype????? This is the question. lovey the term "type 2" usually refers to a yellow face gene. Green is the wild gene which other mutations act upon to change the phenotype. If there is no mutant genes acting upon the wild gene you get a green bird with Budgies.
  4. No Rainbow there is only 3. The blue series has four basic mutations. Blue mutant 1. - Skyblue Blue Mutant 2 - Yeloow Face Skyblue Parblue 1 - Yellow face Parblue 2 - Golden Face. Also in the blue series you have the Dark Factor gene working on the colour also. No Dark Factor - Sky blue. Single Factor - Colbalt Double Factor - Mauve. or Violet. (thanks Nerwen ) So if you cross a Double factor Darkfactor bird with a Blue mutant 2 you would get a Yellow face Colbalt The golden face is more ... buttercup. "Brillant"
  5. He is a Grey Greywing bordering on Dilute. The hint is the cheek patches. As a greywing they should be Violet but they look washed out.(might be the photography) which means they have been dilutes. As a greywing is one of three dilute. He is on the boarder line. I can't see his tail but it should be violet / blue. the Quill should be grey. I can see his markings are grey which are right for a grey wing. He is actually very good. Can't see all of him but he looks a bit short in stance. The mask is good but the blow is not developed... Hows that for a show bird discription
  6. First round. Three chicks are cobalt recessive pied and the forth is a green recessive pied. Dad is a cobalt recessive Pied and mum is a Green Cinnamonwing. How is this so???? The second round has five chicks what could they be?? Nerwen... I know you know, lets see how the others go. There is only one answer to the first question!

I find that when you are breedig and the parents start to eat the vegitables then when the chicks fledge they will also start eating it. It only seems natural for the chicks after seeing the parents eat it.

Yes that is fine but keep an eye on her. If you are checking them, have a bottle of baby oil. When you check your birds give them and little wip on there feet and beak.

...Well I've been blaming myself.. if I had the aviary finished.. Well on Sunday I finished the internal frame work. I also decided on a different wire. It is a lot dearer but safer for the birds. It will go in this weekend. I should be able to finish it and have the birds in it by sunday... I do need HELP I am trying to rig up a solar powered light. We have some that you can get for gardens. I want to put the solar panels on the roof to charge batteries that then power a low watage light through the night.... A Night Light... Can anyone help with circuit designs????

Mine is raw and cut up like you see them. Strangly they don't like grated carrot They like it chopped... :glare: If you can get one pair to start to eat it then you have them all. Budgies are curious birds. If they see one do something they will try it. Then everyone will get into the act...

Yes there will be two windows between the indoor and the outdoor.... ummm snowy isn't going to like it. He somehow got out of the nursary box on Saturday morning and is now with Walt... I don't really know what happened but about 2:30am there was a racket. When I got to the door I saw something flight off. I first thought it was an Owl but realised it was Snowy. The cage door was open and he got out. ...If I had the aviary finished he would only got into the breeding room... :glare:
  12. Just for clarification a normal wing markings has the black on the inside of the feather with the colour around the edge. A spangle is reversed. The colour is in the middle of the feather with the black around the edge.

Spangle died from complications in the Vets after she prolapsed. Prolapse is whee the egg is passed but the internal lining is extracted from the body and doesn't let go of the egg. If you can catch the bird in time and release the egg with some warm oil she may be okay. You can't breed with her again for that season. In spangles case I didn't see her untill near midday. She could have been like that for hours. We released the egg and got her to the vet but the complications occured that afternoon. I have actually changed my routine slightly.. It was taking too long in the morning to do all of this so I clean and replace the water and seed in the late afternoon. They still get everything above but in two stages.
  16. All this talk of English and American... We have Pet budgies and Show Budgies... Easy Edit: Sorry and Bush Budgies...can't forget the little ones. :dbb1:
  17. I'll stick with Female.
  18. Sorry to upset everyone but there is three types. :ausb: In the blue strain you have a Blue (Sky blue or Blue White face) Then you have the yellow face blue (Type I) Then you have the Parblue Yellow Face (Partially blue Partially Green) Then you have the Golden Face Parblue. http://i8.photobucket.com/albums/a26/darrylw/PR1G-4126.jpg Cinnamon Sky blue http://i8.photobucket.com/albums/a26/darrylw/1R-4763.jpg Cinnamon Yellow Face Skyblue Golden face Parblue Soory don't have a photo of a yellowface Parbue. Please note that in Australia it in not good to have a parblue for showing.

Hi Rainbow. Lets see 3 in the house, 2 nestfeathers in the nursary, 10 in the breeding cages, 3 in the flight, 4 5 chicks in the nest and one 0 eggs that should hatched tomorrow today. Thats 22 23 plus an 0 egg. :ausb: Edit: Got home to find the Egg has hatched
  23. Daz replied to a post in a topic in Breeders Discussion
Are the eggs in a nest box or on the bottom of the cage?

When you start them, start them small give them only a taste and gradually increase. One of these dishes is enough for two birds for the day.

Karen I use Passwell' Budgie Starter and Crumble. Passwell's Webside You should be able to get it at good pet stores or Produce Stores. I have found that the birds love it that well that I am using less Seed....and it's healthier for them.
