How Can I Breed Black Budgie
I read up on this a while ago. Apparently they bread some really dark grey budgies in Germany that they called black budgies or anthracites a while a go, but they died out. They looked like this: or there was another mutation in the Netherlands that looked like this where the stripes on the back of the neck continued to the front and down the body.

Is This A Yucca
Sorry it looks like I have wasted your time. I just removed the plastic pot from the outer pot and the sticker is still on it. It is a Yucca (just a fairly neglected one :baby: ) After a quick google it looks as if its not only non-toxic, but has some medicinal qualities as well. I'm not going to feed it to him, but I won't panic if he's in it. His new gym seems to keep him entertained and he hasn't gone near it since then anyway. Thanks for your responses though!

Ernies New Play Gym
Well Angus, Aiden and myself got the woodwork gear out again today and made this for Ernie. See if you can spot his very very happy face! Also let me know if you can spot any risks, its all made of dowel and eucalyptus branches and natural fibre rope. The new leaves are just stuck in holes, the wood is well and truely dead.

Is This A Yucca
Thanks MB & Krosp. It does have thin smooth leaves. Are cordylines toxic? They're not in the list.

Is This A Yucca
Can anyone who knows about indoor plants confirm this is a Yucca and hence safe for our budgie (according to the FAQs) please. I'm not going to feed it to him, but its in his room and he likes to climb on it. So far there's no evidence that he has chewed it, but I would if I were him!

Computer Issues...
I always stick with the brand names like HP or compaq (same company now) as my income depends on my computer. But Dell are cheaper and still good (other than they don't spend any money on R&D and just steal other companies ideas - oops, I'll save that for the other forum too ) If I were you I'd just go for the best deal on the fastest computer and make sure it has a good warrenty. Oh one more thing if you have school age children you might be able to get a government rebate if you say its for them, but check it out first. They might have to be laptops I think.

Computer Issues...
and also because it uses a lot less CPU to run as it doesn't have all those windows apps running in the background, like that annoying paperclip that tells you what to do! and also becasue it doesn't line Bill Gates pocket and creates some market competition and also because when there is an error, you can diagnose it and fix it rather than just rebooting your PC or reinstalling the app and hoping for the best. and also, as it is open source, it means you can write extra code for it to suit your needs and then share that with the broader community, just like many others have done, rather than Microsoft control it all and then sell it to you at a rediculous profit. and also... oh wait this is the budgie forum isn't it... sorry, I forgot where I was for a minute. EDIT: Oh wait there is one more - because its free!! ........... ummmm durrr ,, i have no clue what you guys are on about ... im just happy i learnt emos :mallet:   :bluesbros: :ratty: :lol2: :dog: i love it Haha, that's okay GB neither do I. After all that, as my PC is owned by my company, I'm forced to use their standard operating environment, which means I have to use windows too... My personal PC with Linux blew up (NOT DUE TO THE OERATING SYSTEM!!) and I haven't bothered replacing it yet.

Computer Issues...
Go to www.redhat.com and you can download Fedora 10 but its over 600Mg. It is actually open source so it is free. Redhat is basically the same O/S but you can buy support for it. This is what businesses would want to use. I have also used Ubuntu from www.ubuntu.com but had problems with drivers. Fedora is more widely used so I would get that. The big advantage is windows viruses are not able to attack Linux, so it makes a great web browser. EDIT: Oh By The Way if you get good at it, let me know, we're desperatley trying to hire another UNIX sys admin. It appears we're as rare as budgie teeth at the moment!!

I always knew you were a man of good taste!! As a Principal Unix Systems Adminstrator, I couldn't agree with you more.

All Systems Go!
I don't think it was a red back. We have both black house spiders and red backs here. Red backs don't always have a red stripe but their webs are usually alot thicker than that. Better to be sure though and get rid of it. So how would you recommend getting rid of spiders where budgies will go Kas?

Plastic Cages
Platic sheet or board is available from any plastic supplier. You could just buy that and make it the same way you'd make a wooden one.

Well we just went to the SA Bird Company to get a quaranteen/hosptial/gaol cage for the new one and guess who we saw arriving just as we were driving out of the side street.

Hi From Zebra
Thanks Zebra, so far we've not experienced anything like that so all sounds good so far (fingers crossed ) That's bad luck about not being able to come down under.

Excellent, we'll tell everyone he's a bush budgie.

My First Cabinet Pairs.
He looks great Liv, Adien's said he looks perfect!! Just out of interest, I noticed in another thread you said you blended shows & pets. Was Ernie a blend or was either of his parents? He seems to be getting larger than I remember any of our previous pet budgies were? Although that said we haven't owned any for years so it could just be my memory
