Hello
Hi there and welcome! Does the little grey one have long tail feathers and flight feathers? They look a bit short? Has it flown yet, the reason I ask is that it looks like a french molt budgie but maybe it just looks it in the photo? Cheers, Trish.

Boris Is Unwell
You say "Boris is 3 years 7.75 months old" I had never thought about "bird years" I knew about every one of ours being 7 dog years. How does it work in the bird world?

Did I Capture It On Camera?
Some people say Owl's are some sort of Omen? Beautiful thought thanks for sharing it with us Below only a few exerpts from Wikipedia, there are alot more than just these but it appears that no matter the culture most believe them to be an omen of some sort In Hindu Mythology, the barn owl is considered to be the vehicle of Goddess Lakshmi (Goddess of Wealth) and thus it is considered lucky if an owl resides near a house. Native American tribes saw the owl as the carrier of the elders' spirits. In Asia Sometimes owls are seen as divine messengers of the gods, while Barn or Horned owls are perceived as demonic figures. In Indian culture, a white owl is considered a companion and vahana (Vehicle of god/goddess) of Lakshmi, the goddess of wealth, and therefore a harbinger of prosperity. Prior to the rise of Islam, owls were considered bad omens and associated with evil spirits in most Middle Eastern pagan traditions. In modern times, although such superstitions are less prevalent, owls are still popularly considered "evil" because of their fierce appearance. In the Malay language, owls are called "burung hantu", literally 'ghost bird'. The Moche people of ancient Peru worshipped the animal and often depicted owls in their art. In some parts of Brazil, especially in the states of São Paulo and Minas Gerais, to hear the whistle of an owl or find one is a sign of bad omen.

Damaged/cut Cere On Rescue Budgie.
This is one of the rescue budgies, she is the mother of 4 chicks. I am not sure what happened to her cere as she was like this when I got her 11 days ago. She lived in an aviary with 25 other males and females in a colony breeding situation and maybe got this injury from a fight protecting her young I thought? If you have any ideas or advice it would be appreciated. This is another hen that has a cere like this but it has healed. Gosh I only just realised looking at this closely that she also has some toes missing poor thing!

25+ Budgies Advertised In Local Paper.
Now that the parents are in cages and not in the Aviary I can pay closer attention to them. Pictured is one of the mothers and since day one this is how her cere has looked. I thought it was a recent split from a fight but considering I have had them nearly two weeks and it still looks the same I am not sure. It is very pink and fresh looking in the split. Has anyone seen a cere with this type of damage before? These are the best photo's I could get tonight, I'll try again tomorrow if necessary.

25+ Budgies Advertised In Local Paper.
Hi there just an update on the two sets of parents and their babies. The blue boy and yellow girl pictured below have four babies and the two greens have four babies between them too. Today I went to feed them and found a chick from the first pair on the floor of the aviary. I messaged Kaz to try and think of possible solutions to the problem, meanwhile I found a chick from the other nest on the ground also. Between Kaz and I we worked out it would be bestand safer to put their logs in to two of my large cages and hope for the best. The second chick almost got stepped on by me, I coundn't have lived with myself had I killed it! Sorry its a bit fuzzy the light wasn't great and I didnt want to scare them with the flash. The first chick I found on the ground pictured below is nearly fledged:

Jd Say Hello!
The rust isnt on his current cage, it's on an older cage that i want to use as his. What about removing the rust and repainting the cage? Would a bigger cage be better even though he is still a baby? I haven't repainted before so I can't really give any advice on this, sometimes you can pick up good, cheap cages from GO'LO or Cheap as Chips or similar discount stores. My favorite which I use as breeding cages I bought for only $40. It has a big door at the front for easy access and a flat top and you can put a playgym on there if you like!

Jd Say Hello!
and welcome. Plain white pepper applied to the site of the bleeding will stop the blood loss. Also your cage looks to be a round one like pictured here: http://forums.budgiebreeders.asn.au/index....showtopic=17858 the tapered bars at the top can allow your little guy to get his feet stuck in between the bars, you might want to invest in a roomier better suited one. I hope he JD is o.k. and hope to see more of you both on the forum!
