  1. okay here is my story as most of you know i have a slight disability its dyslexia and memory (with out spell check im stuffed ) when i first got my first breeding birds show types (and ive breed for years )i had them paired for the first time 6 pairs so i could have time to do everything no stuff ups i did a very simular thing i was changing seed containers large d cups at the time which i did change twice daily and water changes also two times as open d cups and at that time i use to take out all the feeders and water give all a change and quick clean then replace one at time water first seed last i remember looking at my birds in ore so pleased with my very beautiful purchases so exited at the prospect that they had eggs i went in to dream mode thinking of who to pair with what next so on i feed every one i checked birds all twice and still was happy they were all feed next day i did this again all feed all cheaked twice as i know im forgetful and next day i went out to find my new grey/ino half dead i thought first up illness but i looked in cage and :what: i relized then what was wrong id actually put double food next door in the other grey pairing my bird was starved for two full days and almost two nights as i stuffed up i did look twice but i was looking at wrong birds as they looked so the same and the hens were on eggs hed been feeding her all his reserved food if i didnt do the dirty fill meathord back the i would have lost him for sure so dont beat yourself to much as others said we do do things we learn by i now have mason jar feeders but even for a breeding pair need to refill every second day sometimes more and i feed aditional seed in other dishes all which of these d cups need changing daily each chick from time it hatches eats half cup of seed a day and by first week one cup a day , THATS EACH CHICK so you may really need to look at more food hun for pairs breeding as soon as chick are due to hatch other wize chicks do not grow to potential as mum n dad only feed what they think is safe so they dont run out if they feel seeds low they will feed less or feed strongest chicks first mabe even letting last few unfed from birth to die so endless suply of seed makes birds feedbetter as they know they are safely able to eat all and it will be replaced so all i ask is mabe add seed just before chicks hatch daily and everyday even if its a bit more hassle as truley your rezults will be i have heaps of stuff up storys but i learnt from them all that what counts
  2. yes i wasnt meaning you wont get anymore help i was just meaning you better taking them in person and talk and see ask questions to keep them healthy till vet no veggies just freash water and seed okay most important GB I am going to completely disagree with you on the no veggie thing. Quite often in order to get a bird to eat you have to feed it what ever it will eat. Sick birds can't always digest seed for one reason or another. Key factors to get birds through illness is quite, subdued lighting, warmth and both food and water given at body temperature. I had a hen here that got very sick indeed and almost died. She could not put weight on at all. Suspect was most likely Megabacteria. Now as everybody knows this makes the proventriculous almost useless at absorbing nutrients. To combat this problem I have always feed soaked warm seed (canary, white millet, wheat, oats, buckwheat) or what is on hand, along with copious quantities of Sow Thistle, Silverbeet or other leafy veggies but my favourite is Sow Thistle for its natural healing properties. Dry seed is always available and glucose (Spark if you have it) in the water which is warm. If you have crop feed the bird to get it over the worst with Baby Rice Cerel (easily digested, easy on the birds system). This hen today is fit and healthy and in fact raised chicks. well im going to but out this one i belive

mate i was not saying this is your fault it defenently is not as for what i said dont take me wrong i know you carefor your birds but i get anoyed with the fact that sometimes peronts dont listen to their children and demand that all bird need to be put together not saying your mum is like that but thisbird is to young to go in with other birds whatch the heat is not to hot just want him warm room temp sould be fine i dont think a lamp is needed myself but i could be wrong their you dont want him dehidrating food on ground of cage like i mean even if you need to cut a thin ceriel box to fit his cage or a flat dish with small edging just to keep seed in as big as you can and cover it with seed one cm deep this way he can just put head down and eat when ever he likes with out having to find dish be like his nest box infact it wouldnt be bad idea if you had a nest box to just put it in cage so he could sit in it at night try giving him a boiled egg mashed with greated carrot and a weetbix mashed together no water just boil the egg ten mins great carrot and crush weet bix into it all stir till its a crumble feed one tabble spoon full in morn take out before you go to school boil some frozen mixed veggies as alturnitive that way less waste ot just thor them out a bit room temp serv im sure he will be okay but if he doesnt have a full crop (you will feel the hard seeds in their like a little ball ) then let us know straight away so someone can advice you as for tameing no teachneach needed when that young just lots of love hugs and handling pats rubs extra cheekrubs work good as nest mates would do this preening action near neack and cheak goodluck as kaz says 4 weeks should be okay quarenteen let him get strenght rezistance to bugs oh listen to kaz about lamp i just saw her post with that shes right about the not eatting hunched look why i said if he lives im sure he will if u listen to kaz advice
