going to have to back kaz 100 percent i been reading this tread and in my opinion your asking for troubble idd seperate out all birds into another place till the chicks of the one hen has hatched and been raized then id think about another way to breed as their is only really tewo pairs id read up on seperate breediong benifits and all then get a few cages go from their even if you got one for the 5 left birds and one each for the breeding age birds would solve everything teals stay in the aviary

you guys with chicks getting tail cysts need to look up and read about tail rot i can almost garentee its tail rot i had one a young pied just last month i did what you do for normal tail cyst and then ontop of that i pulled all feathers from his bum area the lot small ones to boot i dipped him in bennidine and water and then back into holding cage with other young chicks he now has his tail fully back hes still only 10 weeks i can show pics if you like hes fully fixed i asked vet he told me theirs a fine line between a cyst and tail rot a cyst will always mostly regrow if it does regrow in first moult it was tail cyst and not to breed the bird as you will be passing this on in genetic form if it was tail rot then will regrow tail at before first moult like normal after treating and will never become cyst like again but may never regrow tail as it was roted out at the core unless you squeeze all the yuk out and first lot of blood is let out then treat n stop bleeding sounds horid was scarry to do but my birds got full tail back was it a cyst or rot in my case will tell you once he moults if he gets another cyst but so far looks like was rot was dark black and deep set soggy feather that i had to squeeze out like a zit

i would keep feeding it yourself or if the hens chicks are same age you could try it but only if you have a spare at least 3 hours to watch mum dad and other chicks reactions make sure you give plenty extra food in flight veg in stuff to help them with the extra feeding hulled oats if possible id just keep it inside though hand feed it myself im going to bed so ill give you ten mins to ask anything else before i log out

mate your birds will be doing annual molt coming into summer no need to stress keep pleanty freash clean water around and more veg to help with feather replacment boil few eggs toss in flights cut in half shell in all dayly but remove un eatten bits nightly

thats cool so many more should have your confidence ...me for one dont lose it mate it doesnt come back easily (confidence that is )

im sorry kaz but i have to disagree on the violet colour flash on sky violets neak shoulders any blue budgie can show this in a violet colour its not a sure sign of it being a violet carrying bird to truly tell if a bird is sky violet or cobalt its in the wing colours and tail feather which is different in a cobalt to a sky violet a sky violet has a very noticeable turquoise running along both edges of main tail flight and on wings the flights also look turquoise as aposed to a normal cobalt not carrying violet can not rely on the violet huge some birds carry its just tail

ren my flight/breeding room gets to 45 some times close to 50 if im not careful the other day it was 45 i put a small table fan on the roof and just pointed at the wall over top of birds dropped the temp by 10 degree back to 35 with the pop out they can go in and out and the side doors open you get a small cross breeze but my birds dont even drop their wings breeding birds did look bit hotter than norm but not heavy breathing so i doubt it is the heat i have a bath with water in pop out for birds i refill every half hour just cm of water to roll in not more and their drinker is in shade i wouldn't put wet towel on fan as i gave my birds pneumonia doing that once i thought it was good cool the air but it just makes the air wet gets in their lungs and they start heaving and making a sort of soft pant you haven't got you buckets of water in your room still could of cause extra moister on hot days could you ???

I bought avigrain breeders mix but it has hardly any canary seed in it all.... this is why i get the canary one its got every thing the same as the breeders mix but more canary the avi grain finch has even parts of all seeds we get ripped off up here but oh well i get 3.50 off each bag so ... im happy enough as i really didnt like the change in the clubs seed but thats me my birds prefer what they are getting now as well so its what counts less wastage no scrounging through it for things well i dont trust their seed and if you look at it it has shoots on the seed dead ones its tryed to sprot then died its dry light and i cant get it to grow so thats what changed my mind on it Which seed is that GB ? the one they all think is good from leeton yep i had same issues splat till i changed seed birds gained weight since i have and no more lost chicks

well i dont get club seed anymore which was a good price bit less than mackas price i dont like it was fine but they changed the mix they were using less canary more **** in my opinion its same seed you are talking of from leeton im pretty sure i get avi grain now, their canary and then mix my own white french millet at 25 dollors a 20 k bag and my own red pannicn at 30 a 20 killo bag i just add a tiny bit of each as the avi grain has everything the birds could need i get that for 30 a 20 killo bag as i smile alot when i buy it its normally 33.50 i get two bags for 60 and the other two seeds so all up 115.00 for them all the canary is recreant every fortnight but every off week i get only one bag so i never run out but the other two are only every 3 month buys

im in gippsland i have a few birds for sale snowbird breed but pet culls not going to get good quality bird from me visually as a pet cull but will breed quality birds if you do it right if your interested pm me i can help you find birds also im happy to do that you wont be paying a arm n leg either i dont have babys but few young birds here i stuck aside for good keeping im sure i can finally let go lol show bird not snow sorry its past my bed time

I'm ALWAYS going to honour my high school science teacher and his calling them Mendel Squares so no matter HOW many times you make this point it won't make an inch of difference okay! Just like trying to explain to some notable budgie breeders that YF is recessive to green and not masked by it, right And anyway Punnetts just make me think of vegetables and lots of sh*t (for when I'm planting my vegie patch) so I don't give a flying f*uck who designed bl**dy punnetts, it was mendel who was the smart bugger who figured out the who system so mendel squares it is for me - right wrong or otherwise. Now I'm just off to stick sneaky "Mendel Squares" in every post I make........ see if you can find them all RIP ba ha ha ha crack up
