yes make a good story to teach others that even the very nice ones have three faces however as you say their is enough details supplyed to just know that my word is of wise warning to all beginners it happens to all i think beginner or not you just need to know your true friends as they will be the ones whom wont ever ask you to take a bird from your home they will always offer to have the shared pairing cock or hen at your own home yes finne my mentor is one of a kind not only does he go out of his way to help me and drop in ones every month or few weeks but he also helps several others ranging from beginner and moving up to intermediate and i think maybe ever open n champion a truly generous person with his time and help i have alot of trouble getting to and from the shows as i do not drive and if i havent managed a lift home he will quiet often offer one to me and the thing i find actually the best is hes not even from my club yet this does not stop him from helping me achieve my gold to breed and show birds of quality most my club are very busy and their daily jobs take most their time or they live miles away the few whom are close really have no spare time to be able to offer a steady flow of assistance yet i do know that they will do their best to get someone to pop in and assist me if i am in real need as they have gone out of their way to ring around for me at times of need before i was actually being assisted full time things he assists with is basic like just assessing the birds i have breed chatting about what look i want to instill in my flock what breeders i am more likely going to achieve this look from by using their birds recognizing condition with in breeding stock recognizing hens that are supplement feeding only not nourishment feeding recognizing hens whom are risk of egg bound or recognizing temperament changes in with in a breeding pair building of a family bird over colour recognizing mistakes like doubling up on bad features feather problems when and why to pull a pair out for any reason from gone out of condition to not being healthy eg sickness has invaded them either through stress or a cock over doing the feeding of hen hes helped me understand and maintain my belief that a good bird is not always a expensive one and how to use a smaller well breed hen to my advantage or for that matter a smaller well breed cock to a better visually appearing hen i really owe a lot of thanks to him as i must really do his head in with all my yattering and questions and for his confidence and encouragement in my ability to achieve something :}

only got this picture from when i got her shes big solid hen but i think its mostly fat she has a very small head compared o this picture i will get you one of her now very disappointing that :{ i learn't the first lesson in the showing game if a very well known and established breeder offers to take your hen and breed her to a really nice cock to apparently help you out SAY NO unless they bring a cock to your home do not be as silly as i was to think that they would be honest and actually want to help you to :{ if it wasnt for my mentor i truly doubt i would have my hen back let alone one of the 10 chicks they breed but you live and learn

okay so i went out and took some pics of my birds before and i grabbed a snap of my albino auction buy here he is not the best picture it does not show his size or structure very well this blurry but better view this bit better so i said id post some pics of my cinnamon spangles chicks this is her chicks from the first pairing i did a sky blue spangle cock / cinnamon a pet shop buy 20.00 paoli breed cock 09 turns out he was from some very good stock so i hit a little jack pot (he is not very large bird but has everything else ) a cinnamon sky blue spangle cock a sky blue spangle / cinnamon cock and a white df spangle cinnamon cock (im only guessing cinnamon as his feet are pink i have to get picture from different place so will get him latter next clutch from her and a cobalt normal/opaline cock i got a skyviolet Opaline hen i culled her due to size and well someone needed some nice hens so shes with them now i believe she will come out very very nice when molted their was a sky spangle cock in this clutch too whom is still with me but is fm afflicted so im bound to cull him also but will give him some time i dont have a picture at hand another one to add for later :} i told splat id get some pics of the young from my splat hen Dianne is her name her they are to a violet grey dom pied cock / opaline im stuck feeding them gggggggggggggrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr a sky blue spangle dom a violet grey a violet spangle im feeding them every three hours its so messy my house is again a pig sty i just got it cleaned (eyes rolling in head ) more later i will get together a few the birds i was helpped get started with from members kaz and Renee and my nubbly 5 birds :}

so i said i would find some pics of my first show birds that i brought to show you all here is what i found im sure i have better but where in this computer is the question so i decided im going to post pics as i com a crossed them of any bird i may of mentioned already and a reference to whom they are so you can try in hopefully keep up as i mentioned i went to the gippsland bird auction and i managed to come home with 4 really good starter birds for only $170.00 three of which i still to this day have and one i passed to a good friend as they had better use for him than me he was a grey green violet yf opaline and i loved him to bits he was a borg n skivington breed bird that i got for $40 he has lovely chicks however i only ever kept one out of the 23 chicks he produced me their was one from his last clutch i would of kept but as i was giving him away and had not kept any but one yf sky-violet cock bird i decided to give him and the whole clutch n his hen included as so they had a head start with him here he is bellow and with the hen i gave with him this hen i got not long after my auction buys she was $50.00 she is a really good hen she was best hen i had in sence that she lay 7 eggs and always hatched everyone she feed them all full and if i needed to foster any for a day or two till another nest was available she would she hatched to date and she sat beautiful was not nasty and never ever plucked her chicks also very nice so why did i part with her .....as i said to help someone else out in the fancy few their chicks first round now moving on to the birds i have still to this day this next boy is a grey normal / albino turns out hes also / Opaline and cinnamon at first i was like oh great but now im finding it actually a bit useful i just have to be careful what i pair him to so i dont get a big chance of cinnamon albino hens coming through of which i have only got one from him i think but she was worth keeping regardless ive breed from him 13 chicks of which i have only kept 3 the only reason for this is as im only keeping albino hens and any possible split or split cocks from him his chicks are amazing and mostly always hens however mostly cinnamon and opaline spangles im going to change that next time i use him by pairring him to a albino hen masking grey hopefully my rate of albinos go up suffused cin or other wont matter so long as its albino i can use it her he is when i got him here is his first daughter she was to the grey hen above that i gave away with the grey green Opaline their was two other chicks in the clutch a cinnamon sky blue Opaline hen and a grey cinnamon Opaline hen both culled as when i started out i absolutely did not want cinnamon hens when i think about it i have culled many a good bird stock or self breed his cinnamon sky Opaline daughter the next cock bird i got was a albino a full brother to bird above so i was told cant find a picture of him right ill get im soon im sure now but here is his hen a pet shop pet type hen not the best pick but the only albino i could find her name is dave as she looked kind of like a dave they have breed me some really nice albino chicks ive now moved dave on as well she was a good hen and i just decided i didnt really want to re- force her head into my albinos so .... here is my sky blue spangle $30.00 buy best pick up ever shes a kc7 breed bird she also was from the auction this hen has breed some my best chicks ever i will post them later

Avalon House -The Fox Stud-Gb8-Show Birds
i think its time for the show bird side of things i decided to go with my friend kazzy to look at a bird show to be honest i dont remember if it was a show or a selection night to be honest all i know is it was in gippsland when we arrived we looked in and their was birds and men everywhere we contemplated walking away as it was very stuffy looking clicky type look with groups of men huddled around the place but as we were about to turn to leave someone spotted us they waved at us and we smiled and waved back as we decided that dam we cant be rude now were were seen so we approached talking to each other through open smiles about not staying to long when were reached the person who had noticed us and greeted us he introduced himself as did we back he questioned us with quiet normal questions like did we breed birds and were we interested in breeding birds for showing ext ext he showed us around all the birds asking us questions and as we answered and asked him many back he was quiet pleasant and took time to listen to my nervous jargon i pointed out around 19 birds that really took my eye and asked to whom the belonged it was quiet funny as every bird bar around one or two was actually breed by him or his two brothers right then i knew whom i would be asking regarding stock if i actually decided to move into the showing world after we left he suggested we come along see what the meeting nights were like i expressed i wasn't quiet ready yet but id been trying to maintain some kind of look in my birds that leaned toward some show size and features but that my birds were canary's compared to the ones id see that day as he was in my area for work the following week he came passed to see my small flock lol i was pretty embarrassed but he did help me with what i asked you see id just resently brought my first few show birds from here( from splat) and a shop in town he had came over to assess if they were actually any good for me out of the 5 birds i had a grey violet boy from splat and a diluted grey green boy my mauve lacewing boy and a fantastic fallow i still kick myself for selling to this day and a greywing skyblue all birds were okay but he explained to me that show birds i would need to concentrate on only one or two variety not lots as i had just cause they were pretty so with him leaving i decided to go to next club meeting kazzy decided to join me we went to around 6 months to a year worth of meetings till we joined and we were not to welcomed at first so it felt i almost didnt stick it out and was going to stick to pets but the same person encouraged me to just breed birds i liked enjoy my birds show them and basiclly turn my ears n eyes from everything else it was hard and i felt very awkward in a place that i actually belived maybe id fit in as time went by things changed our club changed and aditudes changed i had help from outta club members from other clubs and i was encouraged that i had what it takes (something im still not 100 percent sure of but its nice that others see something i may miss ) my first birds were culls from my local pet shop some of what i still have and breed with today some my best birds to be honest although i have bred for two years now this year is my first year i could use a few my own birds ive breed however as i culled most keeping only a few witch only two stand alive and here now im going to still have to wait till 2012 to actually kick my breeding off i decided to breed albino and lacewings my first auction was 2009 i brought home 4 birds a albino cock a split albino cock in grey and a cinnamon hen sky blue spangle and a opaline grey green violet yf boy my first birds i sold (bar my mauve cinn/lacewing i still have him ) and my grey splat cock i stupidly lost one day when i was in my own world he was just coming 6 months i was so so so sad :{ after that i was very lucky to grab hold of 4 birds from our nubbly 5 all / lacewing and one lacewing cock okay so its picture time ... ill go find pics of the birds i brought at auction and from splat and nubby may take a bit so dont wait with baited breath :}

hi maddy well to answer your question about the size of my birds i breed show stock culls from pet shop /breeder to my pet sized hens but i was very picky about the hens having some bulk to them or good stance or variety as for you question about why my aviary's called Avalon house here is the awnser to your question in which you can also find in my link in my siggy newchickontheblock along with not alot of stuff about my show birds and my experiences with them im in middle of trying to redo it but as i dont know how to work the web sight its not really happening how i wanted :{ oh well if i keep persisting maybe one day ill finally get it :} Avalon house :my aviary,about its chosen name Avalon is from a Celtic word meaning 'apple.' The apple-tree is a Celtic Tree of Life, the upholder of the Worlds above and below, the source of all spiritual sustenance. In Irish tales, it grows upon an Other-world island and bears the fruit of immortality which emits a heavenly fragrance, able to satisfy all hunger, heal all ills, and yet always remains whole. Avalon is the Inner Temple of the Celtic and British Mysteries, a landscape of the soul, a country of the heart. It is the land which the poet and mystic see in vision, where the artist and musician find inspiration; where the soul goes for healing and spiritual refreshment: a timeless land of power and mystery that offers initiation and enlightenment to all those that embark upon the inner voyage. Avalon does not exist in the dimensions of time and space. It lies within the Other-world, a place that the Celts have always taught us exists now and always, nowhere and everywhere, in the ‘thin’ places of the landscape, within the cracks of everyday life. As an archetype, or blueprint, of cosmic order and harmony, it distills the qualities of power, beauty and wisdom, sorely needed in our world today. my aviary is to me a place of magic and spiritual healing some where to retreat to when the world turns sour their is an order and harmony about it , it is filled with beauty and a peacefulness out of this world where i can engage in a dream and become lost it is my refuge ,......my tranquility and to have, breed and show birds is my dream . i plan to work my way from my pets to show and how and what made me decide to make the move over and also the heart ache and cost joys of my first good birds and sadness of a lose of a few good birds i had 40 pet /show birds i had breed by 2009 when i joined my club it was hard to sell these and i still dearly miss them most birds were sold on here to members or people looking on here to buy birds i think you all get the gist of my up sizing my pet size stock with a few show features to see if i could mannage to do it or if i was wasting my time considering even beginning to breed show stock so ill post some random pics of all the pet and / show birds i have for you to see if anyone has any questions on how i got what birds ill be happy to recall the pairings i made to achieve them as theirs a few birds i breed i do remember them all though :} which just shows you how much im proportionate breeding i keep all my records in my head and can go back for the past 5 years to them with just the chick to look at ill post some pics tomorrow as im kind of slothing about now and honestly cant be bothered with the stress of trying to work photo-bucket

Hi From Broken Hill.
looks great if was me i would cover whole flight but id put a sliding part on just the end only about a meter so on really nice days you can go pull back the pannal and wallah sun light to sit in or if you want misty rain on a nice summer/autumn day if you were worryed about bird droppings into flight i use a match stick blind over my pop out sun still filters through heaps and they dont get pooed on i can also take it off to clean or if needed replace

Avalon House -The Fox Stud-Gb8-Show Birds
so i have been looking for the pictures of the chicks from these two birds the Opaline mauve grey and a sky-violet df dom pied cinnamon hen what i forgot to mention was that after their first clutch i realized that they were both split to receive pied this was only realized as i could not work out why some my chicks looked dom but had no iris rings and the fact that the father to the mauve grey went on to produce some lovely rec pied chicks when paired to my sky blue rec pied hen this giving my grey mauve a 25 percent chance of receiving this gene from his father The Recessive Pied Pairings and Expectations Pairings Expectations Recessive Pied Normal 100% Normal/Recessive Pied Recessive Pied Normal/Recessive Pied 50% Normal/Recessive Pied 50% Recessive Pied Recessive Pied Recessive Pied 100% Recessive Pied Normal/Recessive Pied Normal/Recessive Pied 25% Recessive Pied 50% Normal/Recessive Pied 25% Normal Normal/Recessive Pied Normal 50% Normal/Recessive Pied 50% Normal i did not know that the birds actually carried the pied genes separately i always thought that in breeding a dom and a rec pied you were making a combination the two and in turn breeding a combination pied back in toughs years i didnt have a big grasp on my genetics anymore due to my accident id lost a lot of brain stuff so it was here this sight that helped me re gain my genetic foresight when i ended up with a clutch of rec pieds and doms i was a tad stumped as most were saying my df dom was a rec pied but then others said no she was a dom (weve all had this from time to time but i was patient and well in the end i think it was rip kaz and nev that confirmed her being df dom i was so relived as i was thinking my goodness have i gotten so bad i cant even recognize variety anymore :{ rip and nev then explained about combination pieds combination pieds by nev http://forums.budgiebreeders.asn.au/index.php?showtopic=26947 and as they did the brain kicked in and i was back in business working out my birds genetics again so i could work them to my advantage i was sooooooo pleased my df dom was / rec pied as was my Opaline mauve as it cut one whole year out of my breeding trying to make splits here is a few pics of the chicks the df dom and mauve had a sky violet opaline dom pied cock bird / cinnamon which i kept here is a mauve hen also a dom from these two and a grey and their rec pied chick's a cobalt which i kept and a sky which i cant find picture of :{ which confirmed my df dom she was not cobalt as i had first thought and that both were split rec pied so you all know i breed in breeding units as i do today these birds so no muddling up of mum n dads here here is on of the sky blue /op/rec pieds chicks with ths sky blue rec pied hen it was a half brother to the mauve grey on dads side dad had 4 rec pied sky blues and a Opaline sky blue normal hen all up i only kept this one shown more latter
