How To Help A Beginner
well jim he is a fantastic man he helped me walk around the show and pointed out some things of what the judges look for he also asked my opinion as to what bird do you think and what is my reason for saying that bird deserved a place and then asked if i minded him telling me what i picked wrong or wright he was very helpful and didn't know me at all i just walked up and introduced myself told him i was gb from here and best of all i didnt ask to be walked through some things he offered very kindly if i would like him to give me a few points on what they look for on the bench he introduced me to a few people and all in all they were all very helpful and offered their assistance and some e mails were exchanged for if i needed any support with quires i may have ever and splat the answer is not directional feather its very good feather all over proportion of birds ,shoulders, depth of mask ,health your birds have height in their blow but look pretty ordinary unless you happen to have one being showy their directional feather is good all my one needed was some length but i think that's why she was culled in first place im happy to take your smaller birds lol ...any bird ,lol but im happy to wait for the birds i really want splat is a good example of a breeder helping you get on your feet she her self is only freshish to hobby and she knows im after a certain blood line of her stock and has been honest and told me it could be some time before i can grab any so. straight farward no bullshiting me around no trying to sell me other stock

Birds Aren't Settling To Breed
i personally think breeding in the summer is asking for trouble birds need to rest in this time or become stressed and can suddenly die in box or such its going to be a hot summer and personal side i believe that it is just cruel to expect birds to raise young in summer unless you have a proper regulated system plenty of time to be around them and all hens tend to atack cocks more so in the summer months as they get pissed easy think about it how much do you like to do in summer also biggest point here birds dont eat much in heat their for chicks get fed less and can be ********* in growth or lack nutrition so really whats a few more months its healthy birds ready to breed and better sucsess dont know why i got .......... beeped i only said desabled but as in r e t a r e d ed lol

How To Help A Beginner
im sorry renee but i don't like how you so freely give of others personal information and besides isn't it about breeding your own good birds and improving them all you need to do to breed your own good blues is to breed to split blues and be patiant my stud is small it consists of four main breeders and a few very well breed birds from here and their(but these ones are for cross over later once i get a bit of a line happening) but i plan to get more birds from these three breeders splats one of them i have one good bird of hers but untill i can get my hands on more birds from the hens same line well i will wait as i belive her birds have certaint things that i want to breed into my line and look i got four good birds off nubbly all of related lines bar one and these are another lot of featchures i want and i wont need more from her for quiet some thime as i can breed these boys for quiet a while getting good stock hens and possable show birds as they are of good bloodlines plus what nubbly added i belive they are perfict for what im trying to do i already know what features i will need to add to certain lines im about to try and start and wont be adding them in till a few gens but i will know when the time is this needs to happen basiclly what i have done is got a few related birds from the four breeders whos birds complement well then im going to breed a few clutches from each of thes birds slowley i will astablish some good breeders of my own i will then be breeding chicks i breed from these birds to each other (my own breed from thes pairings (i belive rip called them f1 gen) then my intention it to keep breeding my own breed birds adding the starter or foundation stock back in down a few clutches and so on when i see some defenent potancy happening i will know what birds will be of benifit and as kaz said will move whats not on but i wont be hasty as difrent hens and cocks combind very difrently and breed compleatly diffrent featchures and sized chicks some champion breeders up sized their show stock over many years with good proportioned pet types just to achive certain colours eg most violets were started this way so renee it doesnt matter how good your birds are if your not got an eye for show bird quality be it in a pet or in a stud bird you will never subcome to much of a breeder we are not allowed to show other breeders birds nor would i want to i took my first birds in the other day to club judging and i was quiet pleased with my rezults sure my birds may be smaller but they have the show swank and i was placed better than i thought and remembering that breeding is a bout the fun and the challange to better your birds but i look at it as im my own challange as it dont matter how many birds i beat intill i start beating my own birds i wont be happy as that would mean no improvement in my own breedings i did not breed birds of special qualitys or background infact my albino hen is a un rung bird no nothing special at all but she had exactly the right things to complament my albino cock who has a very good blood line and been breed well the cock i produced is a fantastic bird i know hes not much in picture but after i cleaned him up and stuck him in a show cage i was very shocked at my rezults with this bird but he is a good bird and yet to improve as only 7 weeks so i have already breed a great stock bird and posable he may make show team he didnt place in his class but out of a good few birds he got second reserve on night out of birds brought that night im not sure what that means it sounds good to me their was 15 or so birds but ... my grey dom got 2 nd out of four birds in class at our club so im happy with that also i know they are both going to get better as they molt all i got to do is cross fingers the stay alive although thats only as he may be only other bird in his class and i know what they lack after judge coments now i can improve on my birds with breeding them to birds of the lacking quality oviously not till 2011 but thats the thing i wont be buying more birds to breed i will just be breeding the ones i have and rotateing hens to difrent cocks and getting a percentage of all myfavored qualitys through out most my birds my recolds are good so wont need to worry about inbreeding then their is my well breed birds to well breed birds im trying to see the difrents of produced chicks bloodline does count if you want to get somethere but the random good bird will not do much consistancy in the flock is the key if you think you will never achive this in your birds then your not going to achive anything anything much more than flash in the pan babys not my idea of challangeing myself we all strive for difrent things

How To Help A Beginner
i agree with most being said here but what i dont understand is your adapted attitude renee about people and their birds if you want to show birds you don't need to have the best stock ever this is the persons own decision as for what your birds look like well everyone has a different opinion on a good bird what you may see as a good bird may not be what someone else thinks is important in a bird sourcing birds of quality is not hard and when you mention people whom get gifted good birds from good breeders and breed a few good babys and think they archiving well this is not all ways the case and in most instances the breeder gifting the bird can see a real potential in the person of in which their assisting as to their ability to be able to have the knowledge and understanding that it takes to begin breeding show birds (or its out of kindness of their own heart to want to point the beginner in to the right direction ) after all weather birds are gifted with a bit of potential quality or not its up to the new comber to decide what to breed in order to produce the look they want just because you have a quality bird does not mean it will produce well breed stock it is up to the breeder to pair a cordingly to and for what they persiphically need a good cock with a plain hen is very rarely going to give you well breed for show stock birds as is a good hen to a average cock but that's the beauty of showing improving your birds that's the challenge i myself breed for enjoyment over winning a ribbon i am trying to achieve breeding good show birds but im not making that my manatory gold i have been gifted some good birds but also i sourced these breeders out and was prepaired to pay the going raite for any birds in their cull how ever i have been lucky to meet so very good achivers and happen to of impressed them with my plan my vortex of knolage and my keeping rargheem (DIET UP KEEP) yes i have had issues but i was and have not been detured i know what a good chick in the nest is like and i keep my birds till they molt at least twice 8 month if not sure i belive that you should help breeders new to hobby as with out them you would have no compertition as as you said it takes years of work to build up a good line of your own but all good birds were breed from good breeders so you yourself would have started off with (in a sence )gifted birds as any nice bird you can get your hands on in my eyes is a gift and i dont belive you can knock pet shop culls either as depending if you know what your look ing for or not you can get some very good birds you just need to know sighns of a dud and learn the physical sighns of illnesses as you said myself i taught myself with pet types everything first they are after all the same just more hardy i learnt to upsize to breed for feather for lenght of mask for stance and proportion the main two things i belive make a good show bird followed by lenghth of blow and followed by mask feather to me is last but at same time first as its the quality of the feather that achive most these things depth of colour is a magor thing also to breed depth of colour best it is best to always use hens with strong colour depth as they hold the meleniam pigment difrently in their structor than cock birds and the female chicks inhearet this colour deepth gene so to speack books are good but hands on is always best this sight is good but you do need to be careful who u listen to i always make sure that if im not sure i will ask on the well established breeders on here just remembering though everyone is difrent so vering opinions will all ways be given doesnt mean one person or the others wrong just means at these times ask nother opinion before procedng with the advise given as for breeding show birds it not a hobby for the faint harded its time comsuming its heart breacking and you almost need to be your own vet as theirs never one around when you need it most find your own little way about things and when you are comphy follow it and stick to it you will soon relize if its notworrking healthy birds will always do good by you so put your time into the up keep and keeping breeding as a side you will have more sucsess in my experiance and better abillity to raise healthy young remember quality over quantaty hope i made some sence if your putting all your effet into breeding them your others are kind of missing out oh most importantly find one mentor not ten and stick with them also get everything first birds last and have saved at least a few hundred for the worse case expence thats unexpected

Hot Days Are With Us Already!
well im preparing so far i have floored the aviry with sand then i placed clay pave bricks on the floor this good for three reasons one they are cool and don't heat up they stay cool two as they make good beak grinders three their very easy to hose down and suck up any water spilage i have moved the aviary to its rightful north facing position and i have got dad building shade cloth swinging barn style doors so i can open at night and close in heat of day its 5o percent i think i also made a little recycle watering wall with a everyday water fountain for pound and a medium size tub some garden hows stuff the watering stuff with the spray things a peace of perspex and some black ties it runs all day and off at 6 or 5 pm i also like liv leave the birds alone as i know for fact they can deal with extream heat this is not to say i would allow them to have to but just know as of the black saturday fires my birds were in aviry got to almost 60 in their they had no water for a whole day and night as the fire just took all moister i expected them dead as did my brother when we could actually leave the house to check but they were all on floor pantting heads off like i never seen but alive we gave water dishes all over floor flat like liv i think thats what saved them the evaporation of the water who really knows but thety were very thirsty belive me so i dont do ice anymore but i do put water in bottles frozzen wrapped in a tea towel birds love to lean on it also dads shade clothing right above aviry and im placeing another light weight pull down blind their i have a evapritive cooler on hand if needed and i made these wire mess doors for chicks to get nest air flow in day thats it so far birds been very good so far ,...

Another Pair Three Chicks
All my 08 greys are double factor. This was before I realized that was perhaps not the best breeding practise...... Yeah she's nothing to look at which is why she was slated for the Pet Shop but then Kaz decided she wanted her along with 8 other hens. But you're right, with the right cock bird she will produce nice chicks as her parents were way better than she turned out. Main thing is that she's a good Mum and looks after the chickies well. no their not you should cheak your recorlds i have some your birds and not one is df grey besides if you just want people to know she was yours i dont care but she isnt ...not that i know the ring cant be someone elses if shes your bird unless of course you didnt breed her but brought her so ???? but for you ... EVERYONE I HAVE SOME RENEES BIRDS
