Opaline Greywing?
One more thing to add just in case this falls into play. Once again I fostered eggs and chicks between two pair to even out the number and sizes of chicks in each nest. At first I thought maybe these two Opalines ddidnt' have the same parents and that maybe one was an Opaline Green Hen and the other was an GF2 Opaline Greywing, but both chicks have yellow in the body?? The other parents were a Mauve Opaline Hen and a GF2 Greywing Split Ino Sky Blue Cock. I don't think the mum is split greywing and if I recall to get a greywing chick both parents need to be carrying the gene, right?? It's not possible that the "greywing chick" is from this pair is it??? I'm thinking NO, but what do I know.

Boys Or Girls ?
Here are some of the chicks from my two new clutches that have feathered up already. I was wondering if you can tell me what ones are male and what ones are female. I retook all the pics this morning without using the flash this time. Any help would be appreciated. Parents are SF Dominant Pied (possible Clearwing) Light Green Hen and Opaline Split Lutino Dark Green Cock Normal Green Normal Green Parents are Opaline Mauve Hen and GF2 Greywing Split Albino Sky Blue Cock Normal Cobalt Normal Cobalt Normal Cobalt GF2 Cobalt These ones I assume are correct only based on what the parents are: Lutino Hen Dominant Pied Cock Opaline Green Hen Opaline Greywing Green Hen

Opaline Greywing?
I have 4 clutches of new chicks that are all starting to feather up now. I was taking pictures today and noticed that I have two Opalines from the same parents. The mum is SF Dominant Pied (possibly Clearwing) Light Green Hen and the dad is an Opaline Split Lutino Dark Green Cock. The thing is I some how got what appears to be an Opaline Greywing Hen out of this clutch???? How? Or am I not correct on the guess of this mutation? Here are pics of the two Opaline chicks side by side... one is clearly black and the other grey? Any insite on this? Does this mean that both the parents are split greywing???? Thanks Chrissy

Boy Or Gir?
I know, flash isn't good, but my camera is not working right and any picture I take without a flash comes out blurry no matter what I do... so the only way i could get a clear picture was to use the flash. Anyone else take a guess on the sex of this one?

Boy/girl
Three different chicks (flash used) can you tell me their sexes? 2 Normal Cobalt Blues and 1 Normal Green

Boy Or Gir?

What Teachers Make
Isn't that that truth. And you can't help but wonder who is it that decides how much money teachers make in the first place... probably a "CEO". LOL.... Our teachers are under paid and under appreciated... to think we put our childrens' lives in their hands for over 40 hours a week... that's more time than some parents spend with there children!!! So to me becoming a teacher is taking your part in God's work to mold our children into becoming something good in life, not follow the foot steps of money hungry CEO's that sit behind a desk with their feet up or play 15 games of golf a month and say they make a difference. GREAT POST ELLY!!!!!! :rip:

Wanting To Know...
Thank you Dave. This is great, give me some to breed now and while they do their thing the other have time to mature a bit more. I'm going to have to make the decisions and do it fast because I have two pairs mating already and about 4 others are trying to get the nest box covers off to get in. I hope to make some changes this weekend and possible re-pair some as suggested perviously. Thank you again.

My Budgies Color
I'm not 100% sure, but he looks like my pet style hen.... I was told on here that she was a Dilute Light Green Hen.... maybe that is what your's is too??? The clear flights, I'm not sure. I don't know if there is a such thing as a Dilute Clearwing Light Green Cock? If there is, that is my guess. I'm interested in seeing what the experts have to say.

My Aviary....start To Finish
See now THIS is why I wish I lived over there. I could build one here, but would only get about 5 months use out of it a year.... Our fall and winters are just too cold here. This is excellent !!!

What To Do With A Newcomer?
I agree with SW on this part too. not even if it's a little child but I'm sure if an adult lost him and loves him as we all love our own they'd be heartbroken too. Unfortunatley, since he is injured he may have espaced or a dog or cat could have got it and injured it... or it could have been injured and a very WRONG person just set it loose not to worry about vet care instead of getting it the help it needed. I PRAY that's not the case. Good luck and please keep us posted.

Wanting To Know...
Thanks Liv, I understand what and why now. Thanks for explaining. I didn't know that indoor birds vs. outdoor birds develope differently? Is it because of the more "nature" like feel of being outside? You know it's weird too because this bird we are talking about was bought on the same day from the same batch of birds at the same pet store and kept in the same living conditions all along while in my care, but the other one developed faster?

Wanting To Know...
okay, thank you Liv. I think I'm going to have to agree with you. But let me ask your opinion on the first bird you picked out is it based on the iris ring being "grey" instead of "white" even though this bird is 12 months, her iris ring says she's not mature physically or mentally yet? The other two I agree 100% and they will not be bred yet. I don't know enough about them, but it's clear they barely even have an iris ring yet let alone the color. Thanks Dave.... so maybe mid to late summer at the earliest?? SO do you think I'm okay with all the other ones or are they just pushing the line of "okay to breed"... are there any others that are just "passing" at "ready to breed" ? One more question.... since I shouldn't breed the sky blue dom pied hen yet... her mate the albino cock can be repaired with another hen during the next 6 moths... I have a Recessive PIed Light Green Hen and An Opaline Light Green Hen that don't have mates... what one would you suggest re-pairing the Albino cock to for this round of breeding?

Help Identifying Colour?
I say YF2 Opaline Sky Blue (with possible Violet factor). I see green bleeding through the body feathers (espeically near the rump) and I see Violet in the neck area... ??? My only question is that this birds looks like it's already gone through it's first molt and if it was YF2 wouldn't it have more green tone to it already if it were YF2??
-
The "angry Noise"
I haven't owned a keet (espeically hens) that hasn't or doesn't make that sound. I agree with LIV... it's normal. They express themselves that way. Warnings to "back off", just being loud to be heard and noticed.... I have breeding hens that do it in the nest box to tell their mate get out I don't want you in here.... I have young birds that do it to try establishing dominance... I don't see anything to worry about. Unless there is a chance of rodents or insects that are alarming them... I say it's normal.
-
What Colour Is This Bird?
I agree with Liv. The only thing I'm not sure of is that it looks like the flash was used (the light in her eyes) and I know that when flash is used on my Sky blue birds they look this color. So if not Cobalt as Liv has stated.... I'm gonna say YF1 Sky Blue Hen. If you can take another picture knowing the flash wasn't used that would be great.

Lacewing, Clearbody?
I wish I had info to offer, but Lacewing and Clearbody are a major weakness for me since I don't personally own one or have experience with them. Either way this is a beautiful bird and I'm sure the others will be along to help you soon.
