  1. Look, it is really hard to advise you well when we cannot see them and there is no vet diagnosis But, yes I would stop the Doxy treatment. "Chep x sneezes" ? Doesn't sound too good. It could be a number of things I'm afraid .... and let us not forget that you have recently had a big swing in temperature from extremely hot to quite cool ... :raincloud: If I were you I would not beat around the bush any more and take a couple into your vet asap for a check up.
  2. Yes, I would think so too: that at certain high temperature the development of the chick in the egg is affected - but I am no expert. :raincloud:
  3. okay so you think stop it i will post some pics of birds taken today and mabe that will help you guys to gide me i was never told to stop treatment if birds look **** i was told it must mean that they have parra whatever it is (sory kaz ) Well I am sure I'll be corrected if anyone disagrees  But NO, I am quite sure about this.
  4. No I am not the vindictive type, besides I believe Karma took care of him
  5. It is true and we have been reminded, and only recently at that, that birds do drink more in the heat and we should be careful when administering medication. Also it is worth remembering that when administering Doxy we are reminded that IF our birds are looking down after a few days of treatment we SHOULD stop the doxy treatment. Hope that helps.
  6. If memory serves me correctly this was explained away as an example of a halfsider.
  7. I have S76 Renee....have had it for a long time. despite vet assurance...it defies all such treatments including dunking. I may offer this $400 budgie up to my avian vet for "research" and testing Oh No, not one of the 'special ones' .... why is it so often so?!
  8. Priceless! No GB you are never ignored. am I wrong ?Reading this, it is obvious that this person is ranting and irrational. I would guess that they are all bark and no bite. I think you are best off ignoring them, and not letting them get your heart rate up. If they are truly threatening you, I don't think there is much they can do. Anyone they complain to would probably write them off as a lunatic. And PETA only cares about high profile cases where they can draw in a lot of donations if they publicize it. And besides, PETA has no authority. They are just loud and obnoxious. You would not be on their agenda.Another thing, their opinion of what is tolerated here in the U.S. .... They are off in La-La Land!! And for their calling you a sociopath. What kind of sociopath would think up the word sociopath to threaten someone with...?How dare they threaten our KAZ?! You go, Macka, sic'em!!Well said Finnie! And Oh bless her! I am all for everyone expressing an opinion and for there to be a variance of thoughts .... but really, IT DOESN'T MEAN YOU HAVE TO AGREE! Or for that matter take it seriously.
  9. I had no idea the temperature had such great oscillations over there in Victoria ... nightmare! Your birds come through okay.
  10. Welcome to the BBC!
  11. I have a bird in quarantine which arrived with quill mite from QLD and so far has defied any and all treatment including that advised by our avian vet. I am told they can enter the bloodstream ? Would you like to pick up some S76 for it? Remember this is a Rob Marshall product that is ingested orally and enters the bloodstream. Also you could try contacting Hamish, he explained a very effective 'dunking' method for eradicating the most stubborn of mites.
  12. Yes PLEASE!
  13. Jeeze Kaz, I can see this has really got under your skin but it IS bullshit Yahoo! after all. These people obviously don't know you or how your birds are cared for ... We do and we support you.
  14. You and your lovely Mum are MOST welcome!
  15. Unfortunately Amy this is an example of a dodgy hoax. I actually took the time to track down the source of it and joined the forum where these budgies made their first appearance. The owner of these birds (Rene from Mexico) made a brief appearance to rant at me for questioning whether they were indeed a new mutation as he was implying and then once I posted a comprehensive statement from RIP explaining the improbability of their legitimacy he disappeared altogether. He refused to provide genetic background for the birds or provide photos of their relatives.
  16. On the question of heat I do recall Hans telling me that when he bred poultry he bred over summer and the hens were sweltering in very high conditions. He explained he did this because he was able to achieve a fuller comb on the chicken's heads as the development of the comb was directly related to heat. In us humans nails and hair are similar .... I wonder whether there is a correlation between combs and claws?
  17. Nutrition? ... it seems a bit weird for a new genetic mutation
  18. Not many by Eastern States standards Out of the Membership we have few committed showing members I'm afraid - Family and Sporting commitments come before Budgie Shows for most (as they should). The die-hards like Kaz, Nubbly and myself are the exception to the rule There is a definite trend here for many Intermediate and Open Breeders to just take National Selections in May seriously and that is when they come out of the woodwork As a rule it is the Committee members that are more involved in their own Shows .... But to answer your question, How many birds? No idea! I'll be stewarding that day and doing the 'running' so NOT TOOO many I hope!
  19. For those of you considering coming along (wink, wink, nudge, nudge) .... Here is the Timetable: Benching from 10.30 - 11.30 Lunch 11.30 - 12.00 Judging from 12.00 - 1.30 Presentation from 1.30 - 2.00 Debenching and Cleanup 2.00 - 3.00
  20. Excellent tips Ross! Thanks for sharing them!
  21. Fine, then fight fire with fire and out them : Name and Shame! Such brave people as this send nasty emails but block a reply. Anything written "online" in public by me will make me wear the punishment not the sneaky person who has accused me. So put up and shut up then .... don't mean to be nasty but I can't see what your alternatives are other than the ones I have suggested. Renee, you may have a different way to me and I respect that. However, my way is..... 1. They person has been reported for the abusive email as is my right 2. I cannot do anything in public as it is against rules Not everything is about smacking horns together in a do or die battle. and when you are done "eating crow" you can apologise.........................bird mommy  In a past life I was a knight .... the kind that goes charging into battle at the sniff of a gauntlet downed. Had a break and come back to this topic. Yes, I see your point of view now.

  24. Well said Nubbly On a more practical level Kaz, why don't you do what I did last week and have your vet pay a home visit?
  25. Turn the other cheek. Some people have nothing better to do than spread rumours, false allegations, and general ill will. Gossip is always more interesting to some than actual truth or facts, it is because the source of the like becomes the center of attention and feels better about themselves when they put someone else down. They never change because this activity is based on the feeling of envy. Not much you can do about them and their behavior so best focus on your own actions and do not stoop to their level. In fact I would disappear this topic altogether as you are only lending credence to their actions. ren all you said was so spot on but i do belive kaz may be slightly hurt being the understatmentr and has turned to us for support mabe this person has made her wonder what people truely see and is simply looking for reassurance i too would breed more in a larger way for showing if i was able to its hard to be a successful show breeder and get somewhere if you have to cull most your stock and or chicks breeding's all about maintaining a certain thing which if you need to move stock on due to lack of space is very very hard indeed not imposable just you need to be very awher what your letting go to replace having more means you can be able to maintain strands longer and better these people are just stirring the pot for reaction i belive Yeah, my thoughts too. **** off the pot stirers!
