  1. I also make them in all sorts of colours, especially stripes as this is very common in the fabric that I use. Can I ask how much the one's in the shops were? I am considering making them to order (as in made to fit the size of the cage they are for) and selling them by post, any idea what I should sell them for?
  2. So to double check, babies (as in not long out of nest) with a cere the same colour as Jodie's girl are generally boys?
  3. Nope, the budgies are pretty good at flicking seed everywhere! Plus that particular cage doesn't help much as it doesn't have one of those plastic bases with a tray in the bottom, it just has a slide out tray directly underneath the wire.

I dont worry too much about them, I generally go through a bag of seed a week so it doesn't really last long enough for it to be a problem, plus my budgies like any grubs they find! Like a little protein snacky.
  5. I am just wondering if anyone has any thoughts/constructive criticisms on the new seed catchers I have started making. They do have a base in them and stretchy sides so the seed is caught and easily disposed of.

Around here the seed tends to have moths in it (or atleast the eggs as I can never see grubs) when it comes from the ctockfeed place.

Wouldn't want it to rot in there though
  8. My three year old felt this baby girl was our cutest budgie
  9. Unless she sat too hard on an egg and cooked a yolk...
  10. I tried resizing them using the edit tool in photobucket, they were supposedly resized to the longest side as 450pixels but they were still massive
  11. Does your vet do housecalls?
  12. I went shopping today and I bought some things for me and some things for the birds - can anyone guess which shopping is mine?

I've never tried it bt this is a huge problem at my place so I'd like to hear suggestions
  14. That's what I figured... Sometimes it's nice to have someone else confirm these things though :bluebudgie:
  15. Something that I have wondered recently as I have a community type aviary which has budgies as well as cockatiels, large type quails and sometimes my small bird savvy galah in it. Obviously budgie seed doesn't suit my larger birds and vica versa so I often have dishes in there with different seed mixes in them. Has anyone ever had an issue with this? Will the budgies only pick out the seeds that suit them. I assumed yes but thought I would ask anyway as sometimes the answers surprise :bluebudgie:
  16. I guess there is a fair bit of trust involved. You have to be willing to trust that other breeders will only bring along birds in top health and hope that they aren't carrying anything that hasn't shown up yet.
  17. Dave, how does quarantine fit into showing in general? I have only been to one bird show but the show cages were all well and truly too close to each other to be considered quarantined... I know birds have to be treated for various things before going and I imagine this would have been the case with these newbys
  18. Wow, I wish! A wine barrel around here you are looking at well over $100.
  19. Maybe they are easier to come by around your area, but where I come from that's one EXPENSIVE breeding box! Looks great though, I hope they use it for you now that he's put so much work into it.
  20. There's nothing quite like a budgie obsession :wine The secretary at my work looked at me like I was insane when I came back after lunch today having spent $25 on treats for my budgies at the green grocers, I only spent $10 on myself! :bluebudgie:
  21. I doubt there will be any issues, he seems like a pretty upfront sort of bloke. He just has too many birds from same clutches, etc so he wants to get some out so that he doesn't get inbreeding, etc. I seriously doubt he'll be offering me that many anyway so I'll just take them as long as they look okay and then I'll weed out the ones I don't want for whatever reason and try not to keep too many that are closely related. Hope there's some nice ones! I kind of like these sorts of mixed bags cause sometimes you can come across something you weren't expecting...
  22. A pea is simply a dried out seed, exactly the same as a dried out sunflower seed or millet seed. If birds can get a fair chunk of their nutritional neesd from millet, etc seeds I can't see why a dry pea would be any different Kaz.
  23. I would imagine no mre so than bird seed Derek!
  24. I have been offered some budgies very cheap from a local bloke who has too many and needs to move some on. Not sure how many he is going to offer me but I just want to work out what my options are. The aviary I plan to put them in is 2.5 metres X 2.5 metres with a pitched roof that is about 1.8 metres high at the sides and about 2.5 metres at the top so it's reasonably large. Can anyone tell me how many birds I could keep in it permanently and on a short term basis? I am considering taking as many as possible off him and then moving on the ones that I decide not to keep. At this stage I have no ideas what colours, ages. etc they are and I won't know until I go there on Sunday.
  25. Well can you tell I don't generally eat either! okay, so I'll avoid the silverbeet/spinach for the moment(although they'll get what I've bought for now as I certainly won't eat it) and then we'll stick to bok choy, etc. as it is a colony and they do get the urge to breed at times so I'd rather not have anything in there that is going to mess with calcium, etc. Thanks Kaz
