Woo Hoo! Its Done
Thanks, Bailey has even started courting her more and shes like "I'm free!" Untill she hits the mesh then shes like "damn it!" but they like it Also does vasaline work for the start of scaly face? Cuz I think both george and Lumina have it They'll get used to where the mesh is in no time As for scaly face, I use Ivermectin, but if you don't have that, you can use Olive Oil. Use a cotton bud and put it on the effected area. Make sure you don't get it in their nostrils. Is it definately scaly face? Do you have a picture?

Feather Cyst
I never even thought of that. Do you think it would be okay for him to just straight out say "I'm saving for my budgie's operation?"See I already suggested to him that he brings Fizzer along with him in the little cage when he sells his cupcakes so that people can see for himself and they know he's working for a good cause. He planned to actually *work* to raise the money but I suppose if people said they don't want a cupcake but they would like to give him a dollar it would all help! That might be a good idea Often people like to know what they are supporting before they buy something anyway. Taking Fizzer along and telling people why he is selling cupcakes is an excellent idea...

Feather Cyst
Yes I know. My mother replaced my budgie with a similar one when it died, thinking I wouldn't notice. She obviously didn't know me very well. My son is not interested in obtaining another similar looking bird as he actually has a great love for his pet who is very tame and affectionate. He's already been raising money by doing car washes and tomorrow he's making cupcakes to sell to raise money for the operation. I know some people might think it's silly but I find it an admirable quality in a child that I am keen to encourage. It's probably going to cost around $100 - $150 which is a lot. But he wants to do it and he wants to pay for the surgery out of his own money so I have absolutely no right to tell him he can't and I'm pretty proud of him actually. Your son sounds like he is going to grow up into a very valued member of society and you have done a wonderful job at teaching him these values. Give him a pat on the back from me for being a very responsible pet owner. I will be thinking of you all during the operation and I hope and pray things go well. Good luck and please keep us posted. maesie xo

My Tame Hen
Thanks Maisie! It was a lot of fun making it, I'm also going to give Laura an information sheet on caring for a budgie with all the do's and dont's on it. Great idea about the do's and don't, you could also list the veggies and natural branches they like to eat She's one lucky girl who's going to get a very well breed and tamed budgie!

My Budgie
What a cutie. Bubbles looks very young. Do you know how old s/he is? and is s/he eating okay?
-
Hi All
You have a very good start . If she's grooming herself on your finger, that's great. It shows she is comfortable. As to getting her to eat her veggies, try presenting them differently. Hang them from her cage, chop them up, grate them etc... When you put the grated and chopped veggies in a bowl, sprinkle them with seed. She'll start to pick at it and then hopefully eat her veggies. She will eat them eventually, but it may take awhile. You'll just have to be prepared to waste a far bit, so maybe serve a little at a time. You can also try serving them in ther morning or around 3-4ish... this is when they usually eat so she may be a little more interested. Stick with it and you WILL be rewarded As to her eating out of your hand, go with what she is comfortable with and again, she'll do it more and more as she trusts you.

Charlie Marlo's Bird
Hey Marlo, Click here for toxic and safe plants(for natural branches) The rope I use for perches is either natural (untreated) hemp or cotton. I don't use the plastic ones or ones that are treated. You just have to be careful to cut off any loose threads as they appear, especially as Charlie WILL chew it and LOVE it As for other things... you can use natural icypole sticks, pony beads, natural raffia, paddy cake paper pans... the list is endless. If you have some things you'd like to use, maybe write them down here and we'll give you a yes or no. For Charlie, you could make something simply to begin with and then add to it as you go.

Looks good... nice work. I'm also not sure about the Parrot wood. Sorry

Big Bud's Trip To The Vet
mmm, that would be an awsome cage if you could tip it over... are you handy with wood and a screw driver/hammer and nails??? This is what I would do... Lay the cage down on its side: You can still have your food dishes in the protected section on the end. Then, I'd built a support type bracket. I'd use untreated pine, or what ever bird safe timber you have over there. I'd use wider pieces for the sides and back and a narrower one for the front. I'd also make it big enough so the edges of the cage sit on it, so all mess falls within this section. Then, I'd make the tray. For the bottom, something cheap and it can be quite thin. The sides, back and front can be the same narrow timber, incasing the bottom. You can just add a handle on the front piece to pull it out. Line the tray with newspaper, slide it in under the support bracket, and well ah!!! I must admit, I'm pretty handy with this sort of stuff, but see how you go. OR... you could just buy a new one. I really like the size of your cage, and it would be a real shame to get rid of it just because it's going the wrong way...

Money Saving Tips And Tricks
With times being tough at the moment... petrol always on the rise, food costs increasing etc... I thought it would be a great idea to start a post on how to save money. Any tips and tried and tested methods would be fantastic. What do you do to save money on a daily basis??? To start the ball rolling, I use energy saving light globes and make sure all lights are off except for the ones in the room I'm in. Also, when I bought new appliances for my unit, I made sure they had good energy ratings.

Taming Gucci And Dolce
Thanks all. I've had more time with them today. This time I had them both out together. One on each finger, then to the couch, my knees, and shoulders and they also love my glasses... I also heard from one of the 'other' bubs owners. She is named 'SUNSHINE' and had some time out of her cage today. She hopped onto her Mummy's finger, did some tunneling, had a little fly, walked around on the bench and even hopped back onto her mummy's finger to go back to her cage. What a good girl!

Oats, Sunflower Seeds...
I'll look out for that AV Can I buy them from the supermarket??? Or just from my produce place where I get the sunflower seeds and budgie mix? I can't say I've seen them there, but must admit I've never really looked.

Oats, Sunflower Seeds...
Cheers Kaz... will get onto that tomorrow.

Oats, Sunflower Seeds...
Gucci and Dolce are being fed budgie seed from my local produce store and daily veggies. They are not very keen on them so I'm trying all the tricks in the book . I have noticed their keel bones can be felt. I'm not too worried as I know they are both eating and behaviour wise they are both good. I've been reading up on what to add to their mix. I'm thinking sunflower seeds and some hulled oats. As to the oats, I have 'quick cooking oats' at home which contain ONLY OATS. Is this just a crushed and flattened version of 'hulled oats' or are they different???
