That's great news. I hope she keeps it up. Just don't offer her anything that even looks like her soft food and fingers crossed!
  2. Oh mate... so sorry. :sadsorry:
  3. The cage size is good. A few suggestions. I would move the perches so there are two going front to back, one down each end of the cage. This encourages them to fly back and forth as foreplay for their mating. I'd also have the nest box up high on the 'outside' of the cage. This will give them more room too. Do you have a door up high on one of the side where you could hang it?
  4. I'm not good with sexes or types, but they are VERY CUTE!!!!! I must add... A MASSIVE THUMBS UP... to you for great quarantine practices... good on you. Your birds will thank you later

We must have very hungry mice down here!!! We used those traps at work in our factory, we caught heaps of mice... but most of them chewed their way out of the tiny, tiny hole in the 'lid'. They were only set over night too... so it's not like they were in them for days :ratty: :ratty: :ratty: :ratty: :ratty: :ratty: :ratty: :ratty: :ratty:

So sorry mate... you did your best. HUGS xoxo
  7. I'm glad you figured it out. Those photos are awesome. Did you do the makeup???
  8. If you could post a photo of them both, we'll be able to tell you if the hen is 7 or 1 year old.

Thankyou! i always thought he was a girl until he was putting food into my girls mouth! Girls do feed girls too. I have two inside budgies who are sisters... and they feed each other, so using that as a way to sex budgies is not accurate!

Excellent work!!! You have/had lots of mice :ratty: I hope you get them all!

Found this mate: Hand feeding. Hope it helps some.

Sorry mate... never hand fed before. They may be something in the FAQ's about it... or in Libby's post about crop milk?
  13. Um... not sure. Maybe save it for next month
  14. Great photos! The one above is sooooooo cute. You must enter it into Budgie of the Month.
  15. No worries. We're all here to help. It could be an age thing too. How old is he. If he is going through 'puberty' he may need to grow out of it too. Good luck and let us know how your randy little boy gets on!
  16. Yeah he is fine with us going near the toy but i suppose it probably won't stay like that ...oh well have to do what is best for him. So it is not that this behavior is unhealthy for them, it is that they can become aggressive?? It's not that healthy for them to become really attached to something... and it can mean your relationship suffers too... as they can love them more then they love you. They can turn aggressive towards you if you touch or go near their 'new friend' too. It doesn't always happen, but can. It's totally up to you, but If I was in your situation, I'd remove it and keep swapping and changing his toys... as you have been doing. You may be able to re-introduce the toy later and it may be different. Good luck
  17. I knew he would. I must add, I commented on your post before you added the photos of the grasses. I'm not good with them so I can't comment... but knew the bottlebrush was okay
  18. Oh no MB. So so for your losses... especially your crested chick.
  19. There is no doubt in my mind he will resent you!!! BUT... it is better he does that, then become aggressive and attack you when you put your hand in his cage if you get near his 'toy'... it can escalate to this over time. He'll get over it, trust me... he'll just have his 'knickers in a knot' so to speak for a little while.
  20. If this hen has laid twice already (in a row) I would not be putting them in a breeding cage to breed again. You'd be best to give them a rest in the aviary (removing the nest box) and then try them in a cabinet next year. Two clutches in a row is enough as more can be bad for their health. Good luck with them and I hope you have success in the future.
  21. They look perfect. If you collected them from a public place... just be sure they didn't spray there. Give them a hose off and check for poo or other nasties. Your birds will LOVE you for them!
  22. Thanks for the updates... but sorry for your losses. Hugs mate xo

If there is mulch etc... under the bushes, I'd rake it all out and trim the under side of the bushes... so there is less security there.
  24. maesie replied to deb's topic in Pest Control
Good work Deb. Maybe move the bricks and anything else around the aviary away so they don't have anywhere to hide. Don't forget steel wool is excellent to block up holes once you think you have them all. I hope you get them all soon!
  25. So sorry mate... Biggest hugs xoxoxoxoxoxoxoxox
