  1. Without knowing the parentage or test breeding the bird, what are the visual differences between the Dark Eyed Clear (a pied variety) and the Double Factor spangle... as both are all yellow/white and black eyes... what are the differences when looking at them?
  2. Kaz, I'm SO very sorry for this loss... I know how devastating it must be for you. Any losses are hard, but a whole nest is one of the most painful for us breeders and I dread the day something like this could happen. My deepest sympathy, I'm still in shock I think.
  3. if you put two males while breeding conditions exist, the males will fight if one interrupts the other while courting/mating the hen. It's best to either pick a cockbird to be with her or between now and September watch them all together often and see which ones seem to pair up if you prefer. But I agree with Kaz.. one male and one female once you put them in a breeding cage with the nestbox.
  4. Looks like February through May is the best breeding times based on the data you posted. But I would think that it's best to do where you had the highest hatch/survival rate if different (are these readings from inside or outside the aviary?).
  5. looks like Sebby and Cheese has at least one fertile so far (the others are too early to tell from a picture). And Milly is just gorgeous!! She looks like a very protective mother :oliveb: But overall I love Hugo the best.. so regal looking in those photos. Crossing my fingers for you, good luck with the eggs!
  6. I agree with Nerwen... You could also pair her with Creamino (yellowfaced albino) or a Lacewing (albino + cinnamon) for some nice ino types.
  7. aawww.. beautiful!!! and looking healthy too, well done so far Libby!!
  8. good luck on the rest, any updates? I'd love pictures of the fallow chicks.
  9. Here is Frost at 30 days old, who just fledged from the nest last night. And here is an update on Tinsel, at 44 days old. And Duke & Duchess have been busy laying round 2:
  10. I'm getting a new camera today so I'm sure I'll be testing it out tonight and will post new pics... I think Tinsel is still looking like a hen and Frost is looking like a male... Tinsel is already weaned and doing well in the nursery, awaiting her little brother to join her in a few weeks. In the mean time, the parents (Duke & Duchess) have gone to nest again and currently have 3 egg already. Frost is in the foster nest still and has all his feathers now, I expect him to fledge within the week. These pictures are of Frost taken a week ago. The splayed legs has been corrected.
  11. that third one has a nice wide head, and deep mask.. I'd keep that one, has potential.
  12. crossing my fingers for the second clutch, I can't wait to see bubs soon!
  13. Here's a picture of the splint which is working great. I took it off today for a few minutes to check him out and the legs are doing better already (standing up on it's own now) but still needs a few more days on. Pics taken today.
  14. Tinsel @ 32 days old (Violet Normal) Chick 2 @ 19 days old (Sky Spangle)
  15. ROFL, surely they will listen to you :budgiedance:
  16. that just boggles the mind.. but then again I've heard of the same here in the US in show circles. still amazes me to get that kind of quality.
  17. the splint is working great now Kaz, I still need to post a picture of it... but chick 2 feathers are comming in as a sky spangle :hap: and Tinsel is a millet eatting machine
  18. Looks like you might have 3 spangles there so far? and oplaines! number 1 looks like clear flights... probably pied?
  19. your birds are great Norm!! love the photos.. love that green opaline spangle too!
  20. haha that looks great!!! almost good enough to eat, mine would go nuts over that!!
  21. thanks all! I'm really proud of the little chick!! (still no expert on chick sexing.. (Laughing out loud)... he/she?) today found Tinsel eatting the fresh veggies and millet spray I fed them this morning
