I bought 2 new budgies this afternoon. Will test myself on their colors and not sure of their sexes. 1st one - Violet Normal, I'm hoping it's a hen but I think it's a cock? Didn't realise the length of the beak until I got home, should I be concerned? 2nd one - Yellowface Type 2 Blue and cock?

This morning on my breeding cage check I found my beautiful cock Fuzz dead on the floor of the cage. Nothing noticeable, one wing stretched out the other by his side, hadn't lost any condition still plenty of meat on his keelbone? I am taking him to the vet to see if they know what it was that he died from as we have lost several otheres in the last 6 months (all from the same place with no rings so don't know the ages) Anyway the hen he was with is sitting on 4 eggs, will she be alright to cope by herself / come out of the box to eat etc?

Very sad and upset today. I went out to check the birds this morning and my special little Valentine had drowned in the water dish in the cage, he must have wandered in and his funny foot was caught on the side of the dish and he couldn't get out :angel1:

Yes I did this the second and third time I tried them as I was told to try that from a breeder I spoke with.

My little Valentine has fledged today He looks so tiny sitting on the floor of the cage but he's eating the millet and the vegie mix, not flying yet.

I have just checked the little one I bought inside and it has died too I think I may go out and bring the others into the breeding room as it's supposed to be cold for the next few days.

This is why I think I have duds. I bought them as breeding age budgies from a shop last year, they seem to be show types as they are quite large birds? I may give them another go later this year, I haven't decided yet?

We had a really cold night here last night and when I went to check the birds this morning 3 of the baby chicks were scattered around the floor of the avairy. 2 were dead and the third was really cold but still breathing so I bought it inside and put it under a lamp to warm it up and it seems to be doing okay now. Would the cold have killed them, they had no marks or any other signs of an attack?

The last time I paired them it was with hens they had bonded with in the aviary so I put them into breeding cages. I did see them mating but both lots had clear eggs? One of them also had clear eggs with one of the other hens he was with.

This is what I thought although I give calcivet in the water of the breeding cages and when the chick was younger I thought it was going to have splayed legs so I gave it a drop of calcivet in the mouth for a week. Having 2 of our boys with special needs it only seems natural to have a special needs budgies too
