  1. Yep i let him be... with a mainly medical family i know there's not much you can do for a sprain, I wasn't going to strap a wing into an uncomfortable position for him and He was getting around and eating well how he was holding it himself, it was gone within a few days completly :hap:
  2. A few weeks back My grey cock sprained his wing, he couldn't fly due to it and kept dropping to the ground, we gave him his space so he wasn't frightened and hurting himself and with no treatment it healed itself up fine :hap: Until he was comfortable to fly with it again he used perches and wire to get around the aviary, but now he's right as rain... He'll hold his wing in a position that he himself finds comfortable to heal it
  3. I've only had one french moult bird as of yet to date... He/she passed away unfotunatly, but since then i've not seen any... all my birds are in the same avairy and same cabinets near the aviary... :S?
  4. Well said, i beleive elly has given some excellent advice, wing clipping seems to be needed (for safety aswell as training purposes) when he realises he has no where else to perch but your finger he'll quickly get used to you and realise you're not so bad... It may require you to remove the bird from the cage (physically) but he shouldn't be too stressed by this if he's planned to be a tame bird anyway or else you'll have some worries ahead... He'll calm down after a minute or two and then you can request him to step up and repeat the process over and over again with both hands.... He'll jump off several times but just ask him to step up again by pressing your finger lightly onto his belly and he'll realise what's going on and stop doing that eventually (make sure you're not doing this too high from the ground)... good luck i know you really want this bird tame

Well said bec, although with only a concrete barrier around won't keep mice out... I had a small aviary once which was double wired with the 1cm x 1cm wire(crossing over the middle of the other set of wire) and mice still got in... Not a whole lot you can do Pics when you can would be good to see :hap:
  6. Yeps, Easiest way to catch them
  7. I agree avian vet is needed... Until you can get to one treat your birds eye with warm salty water to try and wash out infectious matter in there... seperating the birds from the rest is probably a smart idea also Good luck
  8. Good news hope all goes well... Maybe invest in a net for future catches ?
  9. Hi Laraine... By english and australian budiges i'm presuming the big and the small... english budgies here are known as "show type" and australian are "Pet type" i'm guessing that's what you mean? as after all aren't all budgies australian Sexing budgies can happen at as few as 4-5 weeks or take aslong as Months before they start to show... It all depends on the bird itself and when it's sex becomes obvious
  10. Wow congrats! What a great success for you
  11. As a general rule of pairing Show types Liv i beleive the cock can't be a considerable amount larger than the hen or the pairing won't work form my knowledge?

Fallow chick No2 arrived!!!!! it's either a day late, or the other one was a day early :hap:
  13. Very true phoebe, Love birds are excellent climbers/flyers even whilst clipped... My love birds get a few feathers clipped because they're in a reasonbly sized outdoor aviary but have every chance when we go in there to shoot out the door... Since it's not overly deep they have no trouble getting around... 4 of the 5 can still fly even!! and that's when clipped! :hap: (the other one never learnt how to fly from a bub)
  14. Sounds pretty cool! and it's good it helps ya... I have to give my mum one as she gets cramped up also :hap: But we're lucky my aunties a Physiotherapist so if there's some seious damage she'll help
  15. Sorry to hear the bad news :hap: That totally sucks! and yes i agree with norm, very good way to look at it, you made his short time here comfortable and safe
  16. Gorgeous Bubs Kaz! they're stunning colours Massage Phoebe ? What's that? i've never had one in my life I envy you :hap:
  17. Wow! what a lucky little birdy!!!! I hope it pulls thorugh well
  18. They're fine to use, you can get some from bird shops, vets, online, clubs... many sources
  19. My guesses Sky blue dom pied cock Yf2 Cinnwing opaline spangle... I don't see grey i see a blue tinge to the feathers... and i'm guessing cinnwing in there as i can see brown in the wings in the second picture also the bird is slightly diluted, which cinnamon can do Opaline OR spangle (not both) Df dominant pied dark green... Have you got a better picture of it's barring? i can't tell if it's the clearer markings of an opaline or the Outer edges marked like a spangle... Yf2 cobalt spangle My best guesses.... Heinz Mix

I LOVE the last hen also good luck with your new aviary, i hope all goes well for you
  23. I now worm my birds every 3 months, all new birds are wormed and all chicks wormed once fully grown, i add Calcivet to the water of those birds out of condition and those breeding, and a small amount to the beak of the chicks every now and again when needed (e.g. one atm has mal formed curling toes) Other than that it's veggies once a day - twice a day morning and/or night especially for breeding pairs. I give sulphadim when runny poo is around and other than that.. There's No other meds i give. Calcium bells are always on hand for ALL birds (aviary and cabinet) and a few iodine bells also.
