From Little Things, Big Things Grow!
Haha I use anything to candle my eggs That one I was using my mobile phone anything does the job, and if you know the pair you're taking the egg from and know their reactions to touching/handling their eggs/young it's okay to touch the eggs. That's how you get a better look. Many eggs that "look" fertilised from afar aren't when up close, or are DIS/addled

Questions About This Baby Budgie
That bird is a definite spangle, no doubt about it and a yellow face at that. The other bird looks like a yellow face normal to me, but time will tell. It could still be a green, but feather tips aren't intense a yellow enough i say. Give it 5 days and you'll know for sure. Spangle looks to be a cock, can't tell the other.

From Little Things, Big Things Grow!
Hey guys, was checking some eggs today and although I've seen this many times I thought it might be nice to try to get a video for those who haven't seen it before. It's the Little tiny heart of a little tiny embryo beating... look carefully, but not too close or you'll miss it. Hope you enjoy http://s236.photobucket.com/albums/ff16/1l...nt=PA183450.flv

Hybrid Parrots
i think they call corellas x galahs "Apricot galahs" for memory How gorgeous to see in the wild  Since it's only fairly recent hybrid in captivity to be bred i don't think anyone really knows the true life span yet. i wonder if Peggy will get down with my cockatiel Kaz  Who knows eh? might have a "cockband" or a "Barratiel" to deal with soon  i can tell you that that one definatly won't be fertile

Mauve Budgie
unfortunately that's not always the rule - Many birds who're indeed grey have blue cheek patches, as opposed to silver, so sometimes it gets hard to tell. But as a general rule you go by the cheek patches. Body colour of the bird also comes into it. Grey is very distinguishable from the blue tinge to a mauve which looks like a "blue grey". Although their are many birds who have also had this part of the colour compromised so you'll see many "grey" show birds especially who look VERY blue Here's a comparison between one of my greys and one of my mauves.

G & G Breeding Season
Beautiful birds!!! Ahh fallows, I'm so jealous! We had a mass aviary break out and lost all my fallows aside one split hen and one older cock !!! After my wedding I'll be buying back into them, so if you have any fallow culls let me know

Violet
They look like mauve Sf violets

Stop Breeding!
Give them more time to recover. Ideally they should only breed MAX of 2-3 times a year if the clutches were small. If the clutches took a large toll on them they won't be ready to breed for a long time more.

Violet
My skyviolet greywing, when paired to a violet (cobalt) produced mauves Some how... it's possible :hi: but my girls a definate sky violet also. At first we thought they were greys, but i think they're mauves and that some how some thing weird goes on with colour intensity in pairings of greywing and violets being mixed... who knows. but i agree Definate sky violets

Will There Be Peace?
Two hens together (whether nest mates or not) Should be fine. But the introduction of a cock will throw it off balance and squabbling will happen eventually. I'd keep them all together aslong as you like, as with more cocks than hens things should be fine. No inbreeding can happen if you don't supply a nest box so it's really up to you to seperate those who need to be seperated if a problem arises. But the two girls in a cage with the two of them i'd say will work out fine

Hens Hens Everywhere!
haha oh beleive me I know Renee if these were show pairs i'd be glad to have copious amounts of hens being hatched, but for pet types it makes it harder if they're not the desired mutations of what i would've kept
-
Hens Hens Everywhere!
i wondered that also Dave? I know their chromosomes are reversed to people where as a mans sperm carries either X or Y to our egg which is X and determines the sex from which sperm arrives, so makes me wonder with their chromosomes being the opposite whether it nature or nuture which brings along the sex??

Hens Hens Everywhere!
Just thought I'd add this up to see if others are having similar experiences with their birds at this time of year, but it seems every bloody chick born is a HEN Now normally i'd be thankful that i have a bunch of hens in my nests, but it seems (since i breed for mutation, so those which aren't being kept for a specific reason get sold as pets) all the ones which are not the mutation I'd like to keep are hens!!!(meaning they're harder to tame, to sell and in a MUCH lower demand as pets) and all those which I keep due to their genetics are males (even though like most of us the ones with certain genetics we'd like to breed with are usually needed in hens) It's driving me insane! My percentage of hens to cocks at the moment is through the roof! roughly 90% hens to 10% cocks! I hope the number of cocks equal out better soon! :@ or atleast give me wanted mutations in hens instead of cocks!
