Budgie names
I have already replied a while back but as I have new ones I figured I had better put them up! Harley - Cause he came to be in a box stuffed down a guys jacket riding a Harley motorbike Blue - Cause he came home wrap in my sisters Blue Jumper (also has a Blue patch on his back and it throws people cause they think Harley should be called Blue) Flame - Named by a 3 year old and has a whole Arm action as you say it. She was originally called "Lemon Drop" But got Flame cause of her color and red eyes Mozzie - Cause she bites and it hurts like a Mozzie!

Ant Problem
Hi, my dad had this issue and after about 2 years of doing everything but bombing the aviry he decided that he would just feed the ants... yes that's right a little way away from the beeding area he put up Ant food they got attracted to that and left the birds alone. After about a week he started to add "Ant Rid" and then so the ants ate that and the numbers reduced but he never got them to go away alltogether Hope that helps

Rescue Bird Needed A Home
Yes this is why I said Blah Blah Blah cause I think he was BSing out his backside! She seems quite, I think she is younger they he said. And I think the sitting on my finger is more of a "OH MY GOD WHAT IS GOING ON" rather then being quite. Yeah I read all of that, it's more of a wait and see thing, the vet however thinks she might be a girl as well so here is hoping! What is GOLD PLATED? And yeah I know I paid WAY to much for her but at that stage I just had to take her home, after seeing her and seeing what he had her living in, god I hate people who do that to birds. Also you are pretty spot on when it comes to sexing budgie so I am going to run with your guess I need to get some better pictures!Just thought I would add, I also got a call on the weekend about an older Green hen, she was bought from a pet store left in her cage for a few months when the kids went to handle her she bit them so now they want to get rid of her cause she is no longer tamed. She was suppose to be around 4 months. I don't have pictures yet but she is a very cute little green with a navy tail. Vet thinks she is nearer a year old. Also had to dr her wings as they had clipped her but had only clipped one wing and she is going through malt and has blood feather everywhere and one wing is a HUGE mess. I called her Mozzie as she bites something cronic! So that rounds off my 4. I had planned on getting another one from a breeder but the breeder ran me the the bird that she was saving for me died due to the heater not working in her aviary over the last week where Melbourne had the cold weather and alot of her birds got sick, she offered me another one which she is sure was not sick but I did not want to take the chance with my boys.So now I have 4, my mother is going to kill me!

Rescue Bird Needed A Home
okay last night on the way home from work I find out about a bird that needs a new home. We just have to convince it's current owner to give her to me. So a quick trip out, talking to a guy who believes that he purchased her for $200 and I should give him $175 for her. That she is 3 weeks old and he has had her for 2 weeks and got her from this breeder who has the best birds in Melbourne blah blah blah I end up with a new bird (and only $75 out of pocket :hap: ) This is my new little girl (and please tell me she is a girl!) and the "Mum put that camera away now please" look She has been very quiet since I got her home, a little shy. I also think she is on the thin side, going to see the vet tomorrow. I know I should not do things like this but I am a big softy when it comes to animals that need a better home. We have decided to call her "Flame" it was my bosses kids that called her that, other names where Deigo, Diana, Sonia, Autum, Spring, Yellow, Bird, but Flame won out. I have no clue about what she is or what I am going to do with her. I have another new bird coming on Saturday from a breeder that I know (a green hen) so we have quarra set up in two seperate parts of the house. Blue and Harley know something is up as they got moved out of the study into the living room. She made one tiny sound and Harley was screaming about it. I am a little worried about her but I think if I give her a few days she will come around as long as nothing is medically wrong with her. So my one has grown to two to three and soon to be four. Oh and thought you might like this picture. Here are my boys having a mexican stand off over the veggie pole!

Should Have Taken A Picture
I thought you guys might get a laugh out of this. Because it has been nice and warm in Melbourne (lets not count yesterday or today) I have been putting my budgies in their cage outside on our undercover patio (Thank God the stand has wheels!) If I place it just right then about a quarter of the cage gets direct late afternoon sun. A couple of times I have come home and found them clinging to the side of the cage in the sun so I move the perches around and put on in that area so they can sit in the sun if they want. I came home the other day to find Harley sitting in the sun on the perch like a normal bird but Blue was hanging upside down (I swear that he is part bat!) directly underneath Harley with his tail feather in Harleys face. Every now and then Blue would wiggle his butt and hit Harley in the face, Harley would voice his objection to this and stomp on one or both Blues feet, Blue would scream, dangle from one leg and flap his wings then settle back into hanging upside down. A few minutes later the whole thing would happen again. I still don't think that Blue being upside down for over an hour is a good thing but he seems happy, I have lost count of the times that my sister and I have gotten worried about him and MADE him perch upright. Another funny thing he does is I have one plain dowel perch in my cage (more cause Harley loves destroying them then anything else) Blue sits on it then it looks like he is going to fall off forwards but he just swings around till he is hanging upside down rocks a bit and then he resets and does it again! I am telling you he is part Bat!

Question
That would work wonders if Harley was not half fish! (Laughing out loud) I get the water bottle out and he goes nuts, he loves his tummy being sprayed. Maybe if he fights with Blue I will get the water bottle out but not use it let him see it, 1) it will distract him and then only use it when you are getting alone? The Bird guy came around last night and made some good points, going to change up their cage a bit and he suggested that Harley may remember what our relationship was like and hates that Blue has the with me now and not him, not that Harley wants to be all buddy buddy. Suggested that I look at getting 2 more birds (something I was thinking of anyway) this way if it is a personality thing then they have other people to talk to (Blue is a very buddy buddy bird and may just be getting on Harleys nerves) also he suggested that I find the happy medium between pet and what he calls handle tame. I have the space so I think I am going to go on a bird hunt.

Question
Nope no mirrors and Blue always goes back in first. Any toy that Harley gets possive over gets taken out of the cage during free time, I might see about not shutting the cage door and see if that helps. Thanks

Question
Oh when they come out they both come out, or Harley is given the option of coming out but sometimes he goes straight back in. Maybe I will try getting them to interact with out of the cage with me but without me touching them ir more to the point without me touching harley.

Question
okay for those of you who know, Harley does not like humans, In fact he pretty much hates us most of the time. Blue was happy to be handled however he would rather you left him alone, the vet said he was like a child with ADHD just have to be patient and take lots of time. When I moved into my new house and got their new big cage I put them in together. Then seemed to be sorting themselves out but not really buddy buddy like Harley and Queenie had been. I then went overseas for 2 weeks (so Blue had no handling over this time) when I got back they where the best of mates, something I was really happy about. Anyway over th last week I have been handling Blue a bit but when I put him back in the cage Harley seems to attack him and will not let blue anywhere near him. If I don't handle Blue for a few days then they revert to being really good friends. Poor Blue is confused. Could this be due to Blue smelling like me and Harley not happy about that? Should I reduce the amount that I Handle Blue? I worry that if I do he will go back to being untamed. They have a cage big enough for both of them to fly around (even though Harley does not fly) maybe it would be better not to handle them? I do let them out in the study to wonder around, and if I catch them to put them back in the cage (eg I have handled both) then Harley does not attack Blue, just attacks me when I catch him to put him back. I am confused as to what to do, any help or thoughts would be great AV

Parrot Blend Vs Budgie Blend
Looking at the little I had left and what was in the parrot mix it looks pretty much the same, he ate it so guess there is not an issue, I still think I need to find a better mix as I am not sure that it is the best, but he is getting better and better then eating his fruit and vegs now he is in the same cage as Blue.

Feeling Ill
Just wanted to updated on this. About a week ago my sisters boyfriend's mother who has a bird called perl asked me if I knew anyone looking for a bird. A friend of her's passed away in the last few weeks leaving behind a 3 year old boy called "Sexy". He is Blue (looks alot like Harley) also has been tamed and has about 20 word up his sleeve. I took Katie around to see him, he has been a bit stand offish as he was very well bonded with his owner, but he took to Katie straight away, spent about an hour tying to undo the ribbons in her hair. Two days later Katie took him home (via the vets) and he now is living with her. Yes he was not the Baby Budige that she wanted but he was a tame budgie that needed a good home. I will have to get some pictures of him and her when I see them next. Her mom is not that happy about the name but really happy about the fact that Katie is happy. Katie's mom works from home so Sexy spends most of the day flying around the house talking to her and then when Katie gets home comes and sits on her shoulder, but the funny thing is when he decides that it is time for bed he says "Going to bed" and flys into his cage! Love it! When he wants out of his cage he hangs on the door and screaming "Wake Up" till someone lets him out.

Parrot Blend Vs Budgie Blend
I ended up putting the seed through the strainer so all the small seeds came out and the big seeds stayed behind, then I mixed this with other stuff that I have on hand, worked okay but will be glad when I can get some of the other stuff back, the big seed went outside into the bird feeder at my dads house so there was not much waste

Is It Just Me Or Does Anyone Else Love...
I just got all my toys out of storage and found out that they got wet and some grew mold! so now I have to go buy a bunch more, yeah I know the hardship toy shopping for my babies. Hey does anyone know some good toys or can recommend some? I am going away for three weeks soon and want my boys to have lots of things to play with, my sister will look after them but they will get little to no time out of the cage with her as she does not like them biting her (for some reason Blue HATES her and Harley bites everyone even me!)

My Boys New Home
okay so my boys got their new home yesterday and they seem really happy. Mum thinks it's a bit of overkill for just two, but now I have the room part of me wants to get another two! (mum is going to kill me) I love the fact that it has two doors and that I can put the water up high. Also has breeding box hole (not that my boys are going to breed but the option is alway there for the future) By the way I stand 5'2" and this is taller them me! http://i222.photobucket.com/albums/dd208/g...r/IMAGE_027.jpg And here are my boys in it http://i222.photobucket.com/albums/dd208/g...r/IMAGE_029.jpg http://i222.photobucket.com/albums/dd208/g...r/IMAGE_032.jpg http://i222.photobucket.com/albums/dd208/g...r/IMAGE_036.jpg http://i222.photobucket.com/albums/dd208/g...r/IMAGE_033.jpg http://i222.photobucket.com/albums/dd208/g...r/IMAGE_035.jpg I want to get rid of the dowel pole and need a few other branchs and maybe a few more toys but I tried to set it up so that they can fly from one side to the other. They will also get time out of the cage once I get the room set up and it is safe for them to be out.

Veggies, Cooked Or Raw
Raw potato is bad for Budgies I think it has something to do with it expaning or something, I just know it is bad. I tried the cooked vegs once but Harley would not eat them, he LOVES snowpeas and when I say LOVES I mean LOVES! I peg my vegs around the cage (yes just with a normal peg) that way they have to move around to get them, it becomes almost a game for them, they can see the bright pens and go to discover what is attached to them.
