  1. I can understand that you are on edge I am still a little on edge after losing so many of mine. It might be a good idea to give Jim some probiotics (you can pick them up from pet shops) just means that if he has to go back on meds his system will be steady and also might give him alittle pick me up sort of like a human taking multi vits
  2. Hi, The foot on the back thing is him trying to mount her. Just make sure there are no breeding boxes or anything she can think is a breeding box so that you don't get unwanted babies. Other then that some pictures would be nice and welcome to the forum
  3. *still doing the snoopy dance* By The Way you could have opened the phone conversation with this tidbit not waited till we had nothing more to talk about!
  4. hey, I have about 9 boxes down and a bunch of little jelly beans so when you are ready we will pick a nice one out for you. *hugs* Either way we should catch up for a coffee after all the PMing we have done!
  5. Hugs least you know you did everything you could for him. Big Hugs when you are ready give me a yell and I can sort you out another Budgie if you want
  6. The issue that Carmen is seeing here is that the male vet in the practise is very good at his job but does not seem to understand people spending money on Budgies (and I have heard today he also has the same attitude with Love Birds) he is a big bird person and sees these little guys as disposiable. Which is sad. Carmen don't worry you are not along in the way you feel about this guy. I was talking to a lady today who rang me as she knew about my semi shelter I run and asked for information on vets. She said they had taken her sick love bird in and the male vet had recommended putting him down in front of her two young kids. When she expressed her disintrest in doing this she says he basically told her why waste money on a bird like this you can just go buy another one cheaper then it would cost to treat this one and there is little to no hope of him pulling through. I sent her off to the other vet I recommend you to and again they have said little to no hope but they are prepared to give it their all. I know that Dr Colin Walker at a club meet he spoke at said one of the hardest things that he has to deal with is a Budgie or small parrot owner will come in, say do whatever you have to to fix the bird they spend close to $1000 and the bird dies and then the people refuse to pay and say why would they spend that amount on a bird worth $30. He even said that a few times the bird has pulled through and people still refuse to pay but I guess that can happen with any vet with any bird or any animal. I went through my vet book the other day and worked out I have spent over $6000 on Harley in the 9 years I have had him with vet check up and medications and emergency care. I have spent at least $1500 on my breeders in the last year but I don't regret a cents of that (whats that I smell.... oh it's just my creidt card melting!)
  7. *pumps hand in air for your little guy* okay he is not out of the woods yet but this sounds good. I find the Nurses there great there is one (she is blonde with glasses) who is really nice! Keep it up and as I said if it gets to the weekend and he still needs crop feeding we will work it out so he does not miss some feeds over the weekend.
  8. As you ionly have one then I would also say not to bother with the GC but if you can get Bird Munchies from Big W or your local Safeway i find it better then Trill
  9. Power of Positive thinking This weekend if he still needs to be crop feed then give me a shout. I have a crop needle and can either teach you how to do this or we can set something up at my house over the weekend that way we can make sure that he is feed a good two or three times a day. Also as I said in my PM if tomorrow comes and they are still pushing to put him down get a second opinion.
  10. I think you did the best thing. I find that with vets and birds they never tell you that the bird could pull through more likly that the chances are slim. Like when i took flame in after she got attacked by my dog and for some reason started bleeding from the cere the vet was saying how basically the chances where not good yet two days later she was back to her normal self. When I took Harley in with Mega and everything else they kept telling me to be prepared for him not to make and and yet here he is sitting next to me. I hope your birds so make it, but remember that bird hid illness really well so through no fault of your own he might have been sick for weeks before you noticed, this is part of bird ownership and do not beat yourself up about it. Fingers crossed for you and your babies
  11. My guys all seem to like bathing in their drinking water one of the reasons I switched to Ivermectin and wormout gell directly to the beak
  12. Just be careful they do not bath in it! I use to use the same stuff and Blue bathed in it and it caused eye irrationation and a trip the vet!
  13. Going to add to the questions here with this would it be okay to use inside the house? My study doubles as a bird room and I think my inside birds would benefit from them but would it be okay for me to sit in?
  14. I would say don't waste your money, these cages widdle, are not well put together, hard to move, door keep coming open and I would not put a Budgie in them as the bar spacing seems wider then it claims it is
  15. I have an 02 bird that filled 5 out of 7 eggs and on 04 bird that filled nothing so the best you can do it give them a try and go from there
  16. Congrtas gre buy! They are going to love it!
  17. *hits head against wall* I have four of them sitting in my garage not being used, and another at a friends which has a stand and everything, sometime I really am not thinking.
  18. Thanks Kaz, I have been doing that I found that if I dip the eye of a needle into the calvet then I can get that in his mouth and hope he is getting it. looks alot better today, seems to be coming back into alignment so hopefully in a week it might be almost normal and i will not have to splint it. oh and the unfertile egg which i stole from another nest well it argh hatched! Really it had pasted it's use by date but i guess I should have candled it first! Going to leave it in there as she will only have three and frees the other pair up for a short rest and then they can go back down.
  19. Having been involved with Body Corps for the last 10 years what you need to do is ask the real estate who is the head of the body corp, hopefully it is someone who lives there (and if it is a small informal one it most likey will be owner oucpier) if it is just go knock on their door and say that your land lord has said you can keep Budgies (don't tell them you are expaning your flock) but they asked that you inform the body corp. 9 times out of 10 they will say that is fine. A Body Corp (in Vic anyway) can't ban pets but they can install a 3 complaints and you are out rule. As long as your land lord is fine with it then the Body Corp can't so anything (trust me I have run three Body Corps and I made DAM sure I run the one here as I keep the meeting away from my 100 odd birds ) Hopefully it will go like this You - Hi BC - Hi You - I rent number X and my landlord has said that i can keep my Budgies but I just have to let the Body Corp know and make sure you are aware that I have them possible answers BC - Oh that fine OR BC - How many do you have? you - oh only two BC - thats fine OR BC - That's fine but you have to be aware of these rules X, Y & Z Never sound like you are asking for permisson and never act like he/she has a say in the matter because at the end of the day they do not untill there is a complaint
  20. I found this one http://cgi.ebay.com.au/BIRD-CAGE-WITH-STAN...%3A1%7C294%3A50 ebay item number 110394131961 in case link does not work. it's strange looking at cages and going, nope to big, nope to big I also found this one for my kings http://cgi.ebay.com.au/Double-Cage-with-ce...%3A2%7C294%3A50 ebay item number 220423220297 but I will have to wait to get that one!
  21. Thanks guys, now to hunt for a smaller cage that still gives their own space.
  22. I have a small issue. I have Harley who is 9 years old is not a good flyer and his cage mate Lemon who is 7 years old and blind in one (if not both) eyes. I have set them up in my spare HQ flight cage but I have found that they do alot of crash landing and if they are perched on onside and have to cage walk to the other to get to their food then they seem really tired and are breathing heavey. I have even taken to moving Lemon near her feed dish each day to make sure she has found it and there is little to no flight room in the cage as they can't or don't seem inclined to fly. Also I have been offered two King Parrots who are use to living inside and I was looking for another cage for them but then got thinking maybe I should downgrade Harley and Lemons size of cage? Do you think it would be better for them to be in a smaller cage? I know we always say the bigger the better but I think in their advanced years maybe being in a smaller environment would help them. Neither of them are fat, if anything they are both a bit underweight from where I would like them to be. Both have been ill recently and have come through like champs but I don't want them to push themselves. Also I hated watching last night when Harley attempted to fly from one side of the cage to the other, missed the perch he was aiming for and crashed into the grill on the bottom of the cage and that had to of hurt. so I added extra perches and now he can step his way across the cage. So any ideas for thoughts would be good.
  23. Try millet spray I find that gets they every time
  24. That's great that you found a bird you felt a connection with not just any Budgie just to replace which I think alot of people do and regret. I know that I want to get another Lut after losing Flame but I am just not ready yet, good on you for being really and for finding the perfect little fella or misses
  25. because one sticks upwards. I know that babies normally are very wide legged but this is to an extreme, I lined him up with three others born on the same day and he is not in the norm, I think he got stuck in a odd position in the egg maybe. I have added extra bedding and also put some unfertile eggs in there so that the hen does not sit as tight and will give him another week, if he does not come back into line as the others the same age as him then I will splint and go from there. Thanks
