Charley's Head Rubbing... Raw...
Great advice, thanks guys! Charley LOVES his bath so tomorrow I'll put it in for him. I havent been giving him his little bath lately as I was worried he'd catch a cold. I'll give him a lukewarm one tomorrow and ensure that the room is not too cold. As you say, I didnt think mites would be common in an "only" bird kept inside, no contact with any other birds. It looks like the moult is making him itchy and he's scratching his head on anything he can. I've noticed he's also extremely "affectionate" at the moment, he loves me to tickle his chin and neck, moreso than usual and he seems to be "in love" with me, whispering sweet nothings to my hand as he gently "nuzzles" it. Very very cute!! :hap: I thought moulting generally made them cranky, but it seems to have the opposite effect on him. Is this common? As I've mentioned before, I'm a grandmother living alone and he's my sole companion, I adore him and always keep a very close watch on him to make sure I pick up any signs of "non wellness" so I can get to it asap!!! I do have Maxie as well of course but she's still terrified of me and has never bonded. Charley is the love of my life!! (some people think I must be "losing it" in my "older" age ... .. and do NOT understand how one can be "in love" with a bundle of feathers!!)

Charley's Head Rubbing... Raw...
Can they get mites if they are indoor, caged birds? and where do you buy Ivermectin, can you get it in the supermarket .. or petshop... and is it in a bottle? This is the toy, it attaches to the side of the cage.. (hope the photos arent too big.. i did reduce them) and yes, he has been moulting for the past few weeks.

Charley's Head Rubbing... Raw...
Not sure if this will work.. I will TRY to post a photo of Charley's head. I noticed in the last day or two that he has a red irritated patch on top of his head. THere is no crusting or any kind of discharge or flaking, its just a (pretty) dark pink/red. I have noticed that he has been rubbing his head on one of the toys attached to his cage, it looked like he was in love with it as he was rubbing his little head the way they do on each other when they're being affectionate. I have taken the toy away to see if it helps. I have had all sorts of troubles trying to get a photo of him. He's hopeless!!! If I put the camera to close he jumps on it, if I move away a little he follows as he just has to know what I'm doing! If it looks like a great shot, I check it and its an empty shot!! he's already moved out of the picture. This one is the best I can do for now... I know you probably cant tell from the photo wht the problem is but I wonder if anyone else has had this kind of experience.... rubbing of the head until it is irritatingly red. He's not losing feathers but of course it is making them stand up due to the rubbing.

Colin The Whale
I'm sure we ALL love animals and had hoped Colin would survive. However I agree that Euthanasia is better than him starving to death slowly. I also feel that unless his mother has died and he's been orphaned, most animals have a natural way of discarding those offsprings which are not healthy or unlikely to survive anyway. It happens to birds throwing certain sickly babies out of the nest, and even dogs will discard sick or weak puppies ...our beautiful Roxie, Golden Retriever, was a great mum, had 14 puppies (2 litters) and shunned and eventually sat on and smothered one of her puppies, we thought accidentally, but they are too clever for this. It was perhaps not meant to survive and she knew this. So perhaps Colin would not have survived even if mum was still around. No one will ever know. But I strongly believe putting him to sleep gently is better than the sadness and despair he must be feeling now. Colin. Again.. my opinion only.

Lovebird Babies
I'm pretty sure they're "masks".. they dont have the pretty pale peachy colour cheeks but have the black around their eyes and are predominantly green, red and yellow.. if that makes sense. When I'm over there on the weekend I'll get some photos of the adults.

Lovebird Babies
My daughter's lovebirds, Bonnie and Clyde, seem to have produced 3 eggs in time for my birthday (well not all laid today of course!!). We dont know if they are fertilised or not and they dont want to interfere in case it puts the parents off caring for them. So we wait and see!! How exciting and what a lovely "birthday present". They've had the birds (they have two couples) for around 12 months now and they werent babies when they got them, this is the first time they've bred though. It is kind of cute as they bought 4 birds (from a breeder) and they seem to just immediately "pair off"... picking the partner they preferred. There are two nest boxes and both couples "shopped around" and moved into the house of their choice. No squabling.. other than when the four of them get together of course.. although its hard to know if they're squabling or just passing on neighbourly chit chat!! What a lovely experience (and educational!!) for my 3 grandkids (boy aged 12 and girls 6 and 4). What a lovely way to learn about "the birth of birds"... to see it all for themselves. We're all very excited and fingers crossed the eggs will hatch! we wait......... :parrot: :parrot:

Greens
Thats all I do. I keep a bag of potting mix in the garage and every now and then put some in a deepish lid, sprinkle some seed on, a little more potting mix on top, water every day and I keep mine on my window sill which gets the morning sun. Even looks cute on the window sill when its growing! Generally begins to sprout in a few days and is ready for "budgie mowing" in about 2 weeks!!

Play Park
What a gorgeous looking budgie!! I would say "very pretty and cute".. but I guess boys are "very handsome and rugged!!" He's totally adorable!!

Greens
I do it for Charley, he loves playing in his grassy patch!! I also keep them going, I plant them each week in small container lids (size of small saucer) and as one "finishes" I swap it with another. I alternate between the mixed seed and pure millet. Sometimes I leave him without any for a day or two so that he's really excited when he gets a new one. Maxie on the other hand is terrified of this green thing in her cage and wont go near it, however I still keep putting them in there hoping that one day she'll have a closer look!! I find its even fun for me to grow the seed for them! I love watching it sprout and grow! (must be a motherly thing!!)
