Im so glad I found this thread coz because my boy is also infatuated with his swing (and having his way with it constantly) !!! He runs back to his cage when we get him out and tries to get back to it. I realise now that because Im a shift worker I have been getting him up early and hes been going to bed late. Poor bugger thinks its spring. Sleep in ordered from now on..... Moderator’s Message changed coz to because. please do not use shortcuts - use only approved shortcuts found in guidelines.

  3. Arent they lovely when they let you scratch their heads? My billy will only let me do it and not my husband. I have no idea why, because he actually flies across the room to get to my husband if he hears his voice. Well done for chosing a bird with lots of personality

Billy doesnt kiss! He bites! HARD he loves lips and its like he's trying to find out how we talk and nips you. Its a very un-sociable habit and he has no shame in biting new guests. We try and distract him, but its not easy. He said 'dont' and 'hi' this week.
  5. I love playing spin the bottle......I hope I'm next

Im no expert so maybe some of the others might know, Billy is still very young and has not yet turned bright blue. At times it looks 'pearly'and then will go a bit darker. I beleive their ceres dont change until 8 months and billy is only about 4-5 months I'm not sure about older birds, can anyone else help?

Im so glad that Billy makes other people laugh as much as he makes me laugh!! He really has got so much personality, hes so spoilt. He comes into bed with us in the morning and spends time chirping and biting, and sleeping, he loves destroying magazines and tissues.. I really enjoy it and I think he does as well.He has some broccolini now. So he is quiet. Unfortunatley he has a very unsociable habit of biting lips and for some reason he only bites men on the ear. People at work make fun of me.... they call me the bird lady but I dont think they realise ow special these little terrors are. THis morning he said.... "naughty pretty boy." Its like I know im bad but Im cute too......so it doesnt matter Bless him

Its funny you should say that because he actually tells you off if u try and type near him or use the mouse! He walks up to the screen and licks the screen where the mouse is pointing. It can be a welcome distraction when trying to finish an assignment. He needs some little glasses and a brief case
  9. Oh I feel for you. I too had the outbreak of megabacteria and unfortunatley lost my budgie to it. He put up a long fight but he died of a secondary infection. The avian vet gave him Amphotericin B which is an anti-fungal and worked well but Harry was not strong enough to fight in the end, Hang in there, I know how hard it is but it sounds like you are doing all that you can and it's up to the bird now. Good luck

Hi and welcome, he is sure a cutie. I got my baby about the same stage as you and he is now a total chatterbox (Ive had him about 4 months) They bring you so much laughter with their antics. Mine also falls off ladders and carries huge things up to the top of his cage and drops them for sound effect! At the moment he has a piece of carrot in his beak and is running around the top of his cage, like a victory dance! Careful what you say around them, they are excellent mimics. Mine said bollocks the other day

I will add a picture soon. Camera is out of action. Since we got Billy he has loved rolling onto his back with his feet in the air. It started when we put plain paper in the bottom of the cage and he used to grab the corner and roll himself up in it like a cone. since then if you play fight with him he puts his foot up on your finger and rolls on his back to play he loves rough and tumble. We love him to bits Sharyn

Hi all I havent been around for a while but since ive been gone my little boy is all grown up. His favourite things to do are Drink water out of a wine glass (have to keep the wine away coz hes interested in that!) He sits on my husbands head and nibbles his hair sits on your chest and nibbles your chin says whatcha doin? says billyboy says pretty boy (I think hes saying other things but i cant quite get it) dances and sings a silly tune (bobs his head in time with the tune) lies on his back with his legs up in the air for a play fight and fluffs his crest up like a crew cut when he plays His head is losing all of the black bars and his eyes have changed they are no longer black. All this and only 14 weeks old! I am so chuffed with our little man and he makes us laugh every day! I will hopefully post some pics soon! Sharyn

My dog has a very pronounced hunting instinct and when i first got billy wanted to eat him. We have working really hard with treats and kept her distracted with them when billy is out, I still wouldnt trust her but she is not interested in him at all. He has flown right next to her on several occasions and after a panicked mum picked up the bird and told the dog to stay, no dramas! If the dog is very food motivated this is a good technique Sharyn
  18. Awww! So cute, nice to see your great photos. Your birds look really loved! :ausb:

Thanks all, I'm really chuffed with how hes bonded to the 2 of us. This morning he talked and whistled for nearly half an hour non stop. He said 'boy'and is wolf whistling. Its amazing how quickly they learn. I think he was a it younger than we first thought when we got him, I think the pet shop may have sold him a little bit early but it's meant he has fitted in even quicker. Its amazing coz I have a staffy who has a very prounounced hunting intsinct and several times billy has gone to fly onto the floor and she now knows to ignore him (we have been giving her treats to distract her) I would never trust her but I know if illy falls to the floor she wont race to eat him. Sharyn
  21. I love it! Thats what you call nature at its best! Made me smile. :ausb:

Thanks for that, yeah i had read that human saliva was ad for birds so need to change that behaviour, i think he is looking at how we talk coz he just sits there and stares at your lips while sitting on your chest. Im glad the corn is okay he looks forward to it. Ive got my dustbuser ready for the moult. Sharyn

Well just an update on the baby boy Billy. Im home sick with the flu and insanely sick of doing nothing! Anyway have had time to observe the boy. Hes now 12 weeks old and has certainly fitted in to his new home (even the dog doesnt bat an eyelid when he comes out for a cuddle) He is obsessed with paper, loves corn and green apple and loves to fall asleep on your leg with your hand as a cocoon over him. I think he is also saying a couple of things which are a it chirpy coz hes so little. We thought he said thankyou yesterday and he is copying me saying billyboy. My husband is besotted! Billy seems to be very interested in our mouths which I'm trying to change coz he wants to bite my lips! Oh yeah and he loves to lie on his back with his legs up in the air so you can scratch him and play rough. VERY ENTERTAINING. Oh i was wondering is baby corn okay for budgies? HE LOVES IT!! ps when can i expect him to moult? SHaryn :ausb:
