I thought maybe Peter (peta) or charlie could be unisex. I really like charlie but hubby wouldnt let me call my baby bird that so he chose billy. We thought we could change it to be Billie if hes a girl. Dont know if this helps Sharyn

Great pictures!! I introduced my baby budgie to the weiros yesterday, they just kind of looked at each other and went on with their day. Weiros just have the most cheeky beautiful faces! They always melt your heart.

Hey guys, Just a quick question my bird went to the vet yesterday for a red eye and the vet mentioned that a sore eye can be the sign of a cold in birds. So he put billy on Lincospectin in his water. I was just noticing that he is sneezing more today and when he sneezed on my finger i felt a bit of liquid come out. The lincospectin is a 2 week course. So you think that this is a sign of a worsening cold or should i not worry? Thanks Sharyn

Hello evryone, well i bit the bullet and took billy to the vet. He thinks its a scrach but treated him with a anti-mite and anti-worm syrup orally and on his neck. His eye this morning is perfect! He also did a gram stain for avian yeast. Feel much happier and Billy is chirping away this morning. Ray thought he was a boy but there is a possibility could be a girl. thought he was adorable. Im glad hes got a clean bill of health. Sharyn

Thanks everyone, have treated for mites and lice today. Seems to look a bit better. The energy levels certainly arent down!!! I will try the saline wash, thanks for that. Yeah I do see Ray but have yet to see him with the new bird. I guess I'm a bit nervous going back to the vet coz of what happened to Harry, bad memories you know? I'll see what the de-lousing does and if it gets worse I'll take him straight away. These things always happen on a Sunday and coz its a long weekend, ill make doubly sure I dont leave it if it's worse tomorrow.

i was just wondering if birds can get conjunctivitis? My bird has a red eye, not sure if he scratched it or viral? Any thoughts?It still open but red on the bottom lid.

Thank-you I think hes a bit cute myself. Actually those photos were taken on day 1 last week, and now i'm looking at him, those feathers have all grown and he looks smooth unless youre scratching his neck. I think he might have been picked on by the other birds he was in the cage with. I think my weiros are thinking it might be time to breed, monty is singing SO MUCH and follows his girlfriend around with his wings out and actually shoves his face in front of hers to get her attntion and proceeds to sing funky town, she doesnt look impressed! I got him from a bird shop, I just assumed that he still had some feathers to grow coz he was so little. He has been preening and is not pulling them out himself, he does a good job. Ive only had him under a week so ill keep an eye on how hes doing. He eats like a pig and is trying to talk.

okay, have had a busy day but have found a picture without the cage bars. He doesnt stay still long enough to catch a great photo. thanks everyone, he is not losing feathers, they just arent 'full'like an adult budgies. The tail and back are really healthy, its just around his neck that he has less feathers. I will take a photo of him without the cage, have to wait for hubby coz he has the camera. thanks for all the advice. Just a couple of questions about my new little one. He is beginning to like to be scratched by my finger and is regurgitating on me, which i believe is a compliment! My questions are related to his feathers, he seems to be missing a whole ring of feathers around his neck and still looks like baby skin showing through, is this normal for 8-9 weeks of age and how long will he take to fill out? The other question is when will the stripes on his head turn to white? (they are pretty much all the way up to his cere.) Another question is I have a toy with all sorts of different things for the beak and a bell, it also has knotted rope at the end, I have read that this can be dangerous as birds can digest it. Should I remove this toy or do you think it is safe? Billy doesnt chew it, he just climbs on it.Last one, should I be introducing pellets and what brand do you recommend? Sorry about all the questions, I have never owned a baby so young, so this is new to me, hope to hear from you soon. Sharyn :ausb:

We got him from Birdworld, a shop in Perth. He was the youngest of the babies at the shop and is about 8 weeks old I was told. But they dont sell them until they have been eating seed for 2 weeks on their own. He was handraised so he is very tame and craves coming out of the cage when he sees me or hubby. This is one spoilt bird, the best kind i reckon!!! We just love our animals. We have a dog, 2 fish 2 tiels and Billyboy Sharyn

Well, hubby may lose the bet! Its funny to see him and the bird- he's besotted! My mum reckons we need babies! Its a good alternative until we finish studying.
