Horrifying Wounds On Blue Moon
Hey, I got woken up this morning by my mom telling me that my aunt told her to come get Blue Moon back. That's one of the two birds I had given her... Apparently yesterday Charlie tried to kill him and the cage was covered in blood. So I go there with my small cage to bring him back and I was not ready for this... One of his claws is mauled to what I think is the bone, one wing has multiple feathers torn off... My aunt told me that yesterday he was on his back. Now he's perching and everything but my god it's terrible!!! Right now he's in my bedroom, in the small cage. I can't bring him to the vet. My aunt and mom are against it and keeps telling me it's not worth it and he'll be okay. But I know he might not be. The thing that worries me the most is the foot. I don't know what I should do. I'm worried infection would start in that foot. I'll try to get pictures... Any ideas?! I'm totally wrecked here.

Puppy Update
They look more like stoned if you ask me... I never really liked dogs with eyes like that. I prefer when they have big cheery eyes.

My Budgies Are Grandparents...
A new update! This week my aunt was away for a few days so we had to go over and take care of the budgies every night. All four of them are turning out to be just like their mama, and #4... well, she's thinking of having it killed. Wonderful. I still tried with the next best thing I had off hand, wool, and tied the legs closely together. (We just couldn't find makeup sponges somehow.) I'm not sure it's gonna work at all. If the thighs are brought back in closer together it's a start and might give it a chance to stay alive, but the feet will probably stay horizontal. I told her to leave the rope there for a week at least... And I told her that if it helps I'll keep the baby since no one will want it. If it doesn't... well we'll have no choice but to put it down.

Yaaay Lemon won!!! Thanks guys. That picture is about a year old. Charlie and her just kept doing that as a baby. They would go in the food bowl of the fledgling cage and stare at you. Or sleep tight (Click to see Charlie snoring in there). I don't think Lemon ever slept in there, that was more Charlie's thing. Lemon would just hang out there and go "Hey, what's goin' on buddies?" I'm so happy she won. I visited her lately and she's still such a darling, a jealous darling at that. Just like her mommy.

Two Of My Budgies Have Died
Isn't it possible to run autopsies on the dead birds? Probably costly but hey, if it can save the others...

New
She looks about a year to me, but I would still wait a few months to you know... be really sure she's mature. ...And see if they truly get along well. They're so pretty!!!

My Budgies Are Grandparents...
Yes, that's what I understood. I wanted to take it out at 4 weeks because I wondered if I could hold the legs together... S'why I was asking if it was too late. But even then, if I leave it with one of my birds, are there chances it would be fed by them?
-
My Budgies Are Grandparents...
Well, what if I left it with the parents... It would still be what it is; pretty much a bird whom can't be a proper bird and whom might die anyway. When the parents will be done feeding what will happen to it? It can't perch so it can't go eat.

My Budgies Are Grandparents...
YEa... I don't wanna create conflict. I mean, I like her a lot. I figured I could take it from her at 4 weeks. I know it's a bit early, but I dunno, I hope I could try to salvage it a bit... But even then, at that age I imagine that it would be too late to save its legs?

My Budgies Are Grandparents...
I told her to do that! I did. Fake eggs and all... But she didn't. You know, she breeded budgies before, so it's very hard for me to get something through her head since she thinks that she knows everything about them. Seriously, they live in a tiny cage, the babies are at the bottom in a corner, it stinks, they waddle in there and the parents hang out on a perch above them (and you can guess what falls down on the babies from that.), it's horrible... Well, now they're a year old (Blue Moon, the cock, was born June 20th last year, Charlie, the hen was born on the 16th.) I seriously don't know how to sex them when they are weanings. But she just doesn't care. Heck, they're wild. When I gave them to her they were both darlings. I did a mistake, I never should've given her two. If the handicapped baby lives... I'll figure out a way to make it happy... But even then I'm at a loss. It will never be able to perch, what would I do?

My Budgies Are Grandparents...
Just got more to say... So, the first offspring is all grown up and gone, it is now living with my aunt's friend. Happily hopefully. But this weekend I went to see... *sigh* ...Their four new chicks. Yea. She already had a new clutch. I caught a video of the first one, its all healthy and cute. Well fed, nice feathers coming out. It'll look just like its mama. Aunt's got a backward mentality though, the "You can't touch them" and "you can't clean up when there's chicks"... Took me a while to convince her I CAN take the chicks, and hopefully she will clean up the cage because it's disgusting and it smells terribly. But... Well... The last chick is not in a good shape. It was born june 10th... And it has severely splayed legs. And by that I mean they're horizontal and inflammed and all. If it stays that way it will NEVER be able to walk, just crawl! I told her "You have to put them back into the proper position" and FAST... I told her the trick with the make-up sponges, but she pretty much just shrugged it off in a "They'll get back okay by themselves" and "I don't really care" (!!!) Agh! I wanted to bring it back with me! I'm sure I could have salvaged that cute baby!!!

Got A Feeling Something Bad Happened...
When I go to work in the morning I always go through a small gravel path (actually a driveway but it links two roads together so I go by there. The old man's nice.) that leads to my bus stop. Yesterday... I stopped dead in my tracks. There was feathers all over the place. But not black or white or yellow feathers like the regular birds around here. Nope, I knew that kind of small feathers. T'was budgie feathers. Hundreds of them, scattered over a spot... Was a cute little bird for sure, the feathers were green and white, with hues of blue... I got a bad feeling, from the scene it looks like a budgie escaped and got attacked there...

Worming
Really? You know, I never heard of bird parasites around here either... Must be the winter killing 'em. I wonder, if they had worms what would be the signs?
-
Worming
You know, it struck me... I often see you guys talk about worming budgies, but I never wormed mine. Is it a must?

Urgent Advice Needed Please
At this age my Bud was still hanging out with them in the nest... But I think she was just happy with the company. If anything THEY were the ones keeping her warm. It's really sad your hen flew away... Did you try some tricks to find her back? Like playing a tape of budgies singing, millet and a cage or something like that??? Some friend of mine got hers back that way! And it was a week later!

Another Budgie On Ebay
I know a lot of folks that love buying used cages. It costs less and you can find great stuff that way for your birds. And it doesn't mean that the bird that was inside was mistreated. Or maybe they even upgraded.

Types Of Wood
Well, I see a "red maple" listed in the list of possible toxic stuff. And I have no idea what a safe "vine maple" is... ....Mind you... The type of tree isn't the problem here. My maple tree has nothing of a "small maple tree" I'd state a size but I am no good at giving approximative heights. I'll just say... It's HIGH!!! HUGE! 50 to a hundred years old at least, it's a respectable gigantic tree (And I'd like to know if it's a SUGAR maple tree someday. Yum.). It's lowest branch is 8 feet up, and that's a gigantic one. I'd have to climb waaayyyy higher up to get one of a budgie size! the only other tree I have in my back yard is a fir. That one is smaller, about 10 feet tall, since I planted it myself in third grade. But there's a variety of smaller trees in the woods behind my house, but well... Them I'm not sure about the quality of the soil or if there's stuff in there (beyond decaying mattresses that is.). Well, can't be THAT bad.
