  1. Lol budgies are like mini chicken, they can lay infertile eggs anytime. I'm not sure what these infertile eggs would taste like, though. (How many budgie eggs would it take for pancakes? A LOT!) I agree with Elly, breeding birds is fun but it's one big task anyway and there's always a possibility that something will go wrong. Splayed legs, eggbinding, violent behavior, etc etc etc. If you don't want that, better be careful. I'm sorta lucky, once I removed the nest my hen just stopped laying and caring, even though the male is still there with her and they fiddle around sometimes. That was a bit over a year ago, no eggs since. But my aunt had two of my birds and they made baby nests right at the bottom of their small cage. Twice! Now the male is gone, and yet she STILL lays eggs. So I'd say get her a girlfriend!
  2. You know, it reminds me of these videos! they're so adorable! And lots of hair to play with there too, heehee...
  3. I thought that dog saliva was very dangerous to birds? cute doggie and cute birdie though, they're so cute together! My god that dog is FURRY!!! Must be a mess brushing that thing.

    ! She. Is. SO CUTE!!!
  5. Hello Merlin!!! Merlin's the cutest budgie on earth!
  6. You think it could be fertile? I mean, I removed Blue a week ago, and I doubt they did anything. If I end up going to see her... I'll give it a look. So many chicks in such a short while isn't good on her. And about Charlie... Hum, I'll be frank. I don't want her. Seriously, she can keep her. It's not because of her murder attempt habits, it's because four budgies is enough, and blue is already a handful of savagery. Giving him his meds is a quest. Oh and I got precisions yesterday from my mom about the three girls. At first the personel at work thought there was just 2 budgies, so the 3rd one is going home with a worker. That worker used to work in a pet store so she assured them that she would give her a good life and lots of care, and make her tame. Also, the two other chicks will be split (It's a HUGE old folks home). They will try to tame them and they'll clip their wings so eventually the old folks will be able to play with them! Looks like the girls got a good deal after all! And the boy's probably dead by now. The vet came to get him by himself at her home, he wanted to see what was wrong. He then agreed it was a good idea and took it away...
  7. Well it's over. I gave my aunt the okay for putting the little chick to sleep. The legs stayed splayed, I totally failed. It's terrible. :\ And therE's just no way I can adopt him. I'd have to get him a new cage and all like pointed out above, plus I have his father now. I checked them all tonight, and from what I think I thought I understand the clutch was 3 girls (ceres with blue and white rings at the nostril, some pink bits if I remember well), one boy (the splayed one, full opaque pink cere). First time I tried guessing the gender when they're so young! Tomorrow the girls are leaving... Not a very bright future ahead of them either, but it's still the best they can get. She's taking them to work. My mom and her work in an old folks home. They will live there and give company to the old people, but they will never leave the cage... Most likely won't have any vet care either. Oh well, I hope my mom will visit them and check on them sometimes. It's a bit cruel of a fate but I'm sure the old folks will love having them around. They love their finch. But they have to leave NOW. Charlie laid a new egg and she's incubating it... It's empty of course but we don't want her to go on a killing spree on the babies either. Sad fate for her too, she'll stay alone forever. I'd never want to put another bird with her anyway!!! She's still covered in Blue's blood.
  8. Wah! I wanna hug 'em. kyyyyyyuuuute babies. #2 will be so pretty!
  9. Well thanks a lot guys, you were all very reassuring. I just hope I'll be able to tame him up now. It will take a long time (he has to heal first after all) but hopefully he'll get back to liking me. ...He grudges me a bit now, afterall, I have to grab him and shove stuff down his throat. Oh well.
  10. Well I just came back from the vet with Blue. Costed less than I thought, and the prospects are good thus far. The vet looked very competent. She was very nice and caring with him, very competent. She gave him a full exam, weighted him (32g I thinks) verified the feathers and his feet. She found a couple wounds I had not noticed, one on his right foot's ankle and a small bash on the top of the head. She told me to keep trying to desinfect, but she suggests I stop using peroxide and go with something called Baxedin, which contains chlorhexidine gluconate. She says it's better for him and won't kill the good cells like peroxide. She told me he does not seem to have any broken blood feathers left (Seems that Charlie ripped 'em all clean off). His wings are swollen, his feet too. (EDIT: Oh, and she also told me TRY to wash his feet in warm water to clean off the junk, says it will help a lot.) The worst wound like I thought is the right foot, where there is necrosis. She told me his toe will dry and fall off... Poor thing, s'what I feared. If I see any bad color change in his foot, I have to call them ASAP. She gave me two medicines... An antibiotic for 7 days, 0.05ml two times per day (It's called enrofloxacin)... The other one is an anti-inflamatory (Meloxicam), for 5 days, once per day (every night) I'm gonna keep her as a vet for my birds for sure, I like her a lot and I liked her attitude.
  11. Yea uh, I'd just like to say... I didn't seize anything. she's the one that asked mom sunday morning if we could take him home. That taking back thing was just something she told me when I went to get him. When I saw the extent of the wounds and how weak he was my legs nearly gave away. And I then said that what he needs is a vet. That's when she said that he would be fine by himself and that she didn't want me to waste money on him.
  12. It's okay I doubt she would want him back no matter what anyway. And I don't have to tell her about the bill. I looked at him yesterday night, his leg is badly swollen. Hopefully he will hold up to tonight and they will be able to do something for his leg... the more time goes by the less I'm worried about his wing. He can still use it and I think there's no broken feathers left there. She seems to have yanked them clean off. Now if he would stop eating at 3 AM I'd be happier. *Yawn* X_o But then again I Doubt I'd be able to sleep in his shape as well. I won't bring the other baby along... I'd have to go get him for that and all, and I'm not sure my aunt would approve. And well, knowing some vets around here they would probably charge me twice!
  13. I just came back from going outside for my lunch and I got another thing to worry about... It's pretty darn hot outside, around 27C and it's still rising. I had closed the window of my bedroom because he needed warmth and all... But man, will it get too hot??? The door to my room is probably closed at that!!
  14. Well...I'm not sure they're avian vets, I never found one. But they take care of exotics and budgies are in the range. My regular vet referred me to these guys, they said that they would be able to do much more than they would. The woman I spoke with on the phone this morning looked like she cared a lot, telling me I have to absolutely call back on emergency if something goes wrong before tomorrow night and all. So I have a good feeling about this. But no matter what, they'll have to be the only hope. I never went there before, so it's all a gamble. And frankly... It's a good test right there. If they treat him well, I know I'll be able to trust them if anything happens with my three others. My other vet is okay for my dog, but he made a lousy check on Bud. This is so unexpected, I don't have money for this at all. I know you're supposed to always have spare money for emergencies, and I can always manage for them, but he was not on the list here. He's a charge that was dumped on me so suddenly. And I know the bill will be crazy. And I know my aunt won't take any part of this. She would've just let him be.
  15. Well frankly, It's a bad picture. I should take a picture from side. The skin is so scarce I don't see how he can swell. There's just no skin to swell! That toe up front....It's all ripped to shreds. The picture of the foot you got there does not give justice to the amplitude of the wound.
  16. I got him an appointment with a doc. He'll be going to the vet tomorrow at 19:40. I hope it won't be too late.
  17. I tried. I had one sponge only, and I managed to rip it. :glare: So I had to fall back on the wool.
  18. It could be a good set up but I'm not sure I'd be willing to go that far. It would mean I need to set up a new special cage for it, and I just don't have the space for that. I can live with a disabled budgie that can still sorta perch. That way I'd set it in Godzilla's cage, which has a low ceiling and all. But... ramps and platforms are for hamsters and if I want a hamster I'll buy a hamster. I guess I'll have to see how it turns out.
  19. Actually... I have. Pat did fall off a perch while snoring a couple times. And if they're with another bird in the cage, they could've been nudged too! You know, when you think about it... Mine sleep on one foot with their faces in the back. It must be normal they fall off here and then!
  20. Well the whole situation makes me regret many things that's for sure. I told her she shouldn't leave them together. I told her she should switch out the eggs for fakes. I told her the baby had a splayed legs problem. I told her Blue was being beaten up too much. Now look what point I'm at now. I got my Blue back, and he's in such a bad shape. She even told me that if I start spending too much on him (AKA: take him to the vet) she'd take him back from me!! (And one thing is sure... I cannot afford the vet right now, I'm having money problems... So it makes me VERY ANGRY that she let him get beaten up so bad after the incident of wednesday.)
  21. No worries. She'd get it done properly. The problem with it is that the splayed legs are more than splayed... they're horizontal, and it can't use its legs at all. Right now they're tied together but I doubt it will do anything. Frankly, she's just waiting for my okay to have it killed off...
  22. Trust me, I'll do all I can to keep him. If he lives, I'll try to make him tame again. It won't be easy... I just went to check up on him and he started getting some of his old spunk back. What bothers me is that now... I dunno if I'll be able to take his splayed offspring in (If it works that is, it's possible we will still get the chick put to sleep). But for now, it's him that has to be on my mind, not the baby. Too bad, but I need priorities. Blue is on my turf right now, so he'll be the one I spend my worries on. The chick is with its freaky bloody killer mommy. Say... he's in my bedroom. Does that mean I can't open my window to let some fresh air in while I sleep? X_o Or will the blanket over the cage do the job? It's really the first time I have to deal with a hurt budgie...
  23. I bet it's against the law here too, but I doubt anyone follows it... and I doubt it's enforced as well. He chews on his leg from time to time... But I'm not sure he does it too much. I'm trying to figure out the wing. It's not easy, I'm clumsy and I don't wanna hurt him. I think it's just multiple feathers that got ripped out. He has a small blood spot on his other wing too, I hadn't seen it at first because of the feathers covering it. That looks like he had a feather pulled there too. It looks like I won't have a choice... I have to bring him to the vet. I'll try my best, but my best can only be calling them tomorrow and trying to schedule for tuesday. I don't have white pepper, but can corn starch do the job?
  24. Oh no dear. I assure you... No mouse, no rat. He's an household pet. It's Charlie. She was covered in his blood. It was like a freak horror budgie B rated movie. And all the time I been around them I know she's nasty with him. And worst is that I feel pretty mad. I remember wednesday night, I had visited them to check on the baby with splayed legs... and I noticed he had two mangled claw and there was blood on the perch. I warned her that it was Charlie biting him like that, and she pretty much dismissed it... And now look at the poor thing. I tried the collar... but I don't see how he would ever eat or drink with that thing on!! It makes him imbalanced too, and with a foot unusable I don't think that's a great idea. I disinfected his wounds with peroxide earlier on... I'll call more vets tomorrow. Bad things always happen on weekends when you can't reach one... If I take him to the vet I can pretty much only take him tuesday night. EDIT: He doesn't seem to be in much pain though. Surprisingly enough. He moves around and eats and drinks... He let out a couple chirps already, and now that Charlie isn't around he's much less savage. Could be just because he's weak, but somehow I have that feeling that he knows I'm trying to help.
  25. I know the feelings and morale part. I still called the vet. They didn't say "You have to bring it in" or anything like that, they said that I can do everything myself and they wouldn't be able to do more than what I would do anyway. Told me to clean the wound with peroxide (I just have 3% peroxide, is that okay?) and put a collar so he won't fiddle with his wounds. I never heard of bird collars before... She also told me to keep the cage covered so he'll keep warm. Basically she said that cleaning the wounds is all that we could do to help the poor thing... But I never did that before. And I'd like your advice too on what I could do. I took pictures. It hurts me terribly. He was so beautiful and cheery as a baby.
