  1. There is a budgie auction at Ballarat next Saturday,I see there is a crested cock & its brother that is crest breed.Might be worth a look.

Iam of the same opinion,as you Norm.If they are kept in a dry place, cocci should`nt be a problem. Wet litter is the problem & over crowarding.

I put a small branch in the flights each week. They chew at the leaves & strip the bark off over the week.I have a good supply of trees to trim, small branchs from.PPL in town might struggle to find a supply of branches.
  4. Being a sparky Daz,you should come up with a Rolls Royce model of a hospital cage.
  5. Two babies out at the crack of dawn today Phoebe........Kamikaze and Geronimo (great name by the way ) Yes they keep me very busy. I have to keep checking them and putting them back. I know this is a old post & someone may have said to you, your nest box is not deep enough ,or the hole is to close to the bottem. The hole in the nest box need to be at least, 100 mm from the bottem.I have icecream containers 2lt in the bottem of all my nest boxs.Makes for easy cleaning of the boxs. Another thing I noticed, you forgot the name of the dom pie that come second at the night show. :ausb:
  6. I have just read both articles.Molly I think if the people that read your write up & have`nt read the other one. Wil not see, what you are trying to get over. When reading your first post I wondered what the expert had said. Then reading the whole story,I thought she covered it pretty well, for the biger % of cage bird keeperes. I guess it is from which side of the cage you sit, some are happy to have a bird or birds in a cage have a chat to.Or the ones who have acage full of toys & let there birds out to fly around. Not ever owned a pet bird in a cage,I don`t no anything about the personal contact. But I do know a budgie, that a older couple own,who I see once a week.He is 5yrs old & I dont think he has ever been out of his cage.As soon as you walk in, he says, like a cup of coffee or tea, sugar &milk, & will chat away. He seem very happy with his life. I guess each is to to his own;In away we all think we are experts.
  7. Feathers,If what you are saying, most of the seed is grown in the state. You could orginise a few breeders & buy direct from the grower. That what I do.I have 2or 3 breeders buy from me,at what it costs me& now it gone to $70.00 there will be more of them asking, if I have any to sell.
  8. Paul, Just as well, they havent put the price up.You are paying enough for it now. 40kgs=$101.20
  9. You need to watch that they are still useing quality seed & not useing a cheap filler.
  10. If you join the colac club there is a breeder of crested in the club.
  11. I buy my seed by the pallet, 28 bags. A mix of 50% canary.5% oats,20% of jap millet. 10% panican red &the same of yellow & 5% of nigra. It worked out at $48.oo a bag at my door. The bags are 40kgs.The local feed stores are $70.oo a 40kgs bag & its only about 35% canary.

Anthony, He may have suffered a heart attack.I would put him in a box in the dark & let him go quietly.
  13. CB,The chances of a Y/F crested might not be that easy to come by. The crested birds are not in that big of supply.Be carefull when buying crest bred, there is no way of knowing if it is crest breed. If I was you I would, just buy a crested & mate it to a normal & breed your own. Then you know, what you are useing. Now there are crest birds & there are CREST BIRDS,Its not hard to breed crest birds. But it is hard to breed any with a bit of size about them.If you want to breed them the size of a finch. To buy one of any size, you would be looking at about $100.00. Small ones perhaps $25.00.
  14. I agree with Kaz.I would drop the honey.perhaps no honey.Be interested to know how the chicks, finish off.
  15. It`s not a good thing,to buy from pet shops. The bird dealer come to our club & buys all the culls. Then sells them onto the pet shops. He picked up 346 on Monday night. He would take them home & most probely put them all into the one flight. The age of the birds would 6 months to 6 yrs old & could be carrying any number of deases. No never buy from a pet shops.
  16. Bar heads or unbroken caps, keep there baring up tp 10 weeks & sometime longer, before they break there caps & start there first mult. You havent aphoto of one that is lite on baring. The Inos have no baring.
  17. Name, CINNAMOM SKY BLUE HEN.
  18. I tap on the box before I open the lid & 8 out 10 the hen will hop out. That way they don`t spread the eggs every where.

This is the first time I have had a look at this thread. The bottem of the cage where you have circled the rust,It looks dented, hit with a hammer or something. The rust appears to be where they welded it & the same on the rails Plus the paint job looks very light on by the photo.I`m not sure what you payed for it.But was it made in Australia. To get away from the rust probelm, you may have to buy a powder coated one like Feathers. The paint on them is baked on & may be more expencive.

  21. At the meeting I was at last week.we had a vet as the guest speaker. He is one of the top avian vets in OZ.His reply to pellets for feeding to budgies, was Vetafarm. They have all the goods in them.

When you get a blood feather, like that, get apair of tweezers & remove the blood feather & just run the cold water on his head or a sprinkle of pepper & he will be as good as gold.
  23. If you are buying from a experinced breeder at that age they should no the difference.
  24. Yes it`s a hen,Yellow Face Spangle.
  25. Feathers, I see you have 60or so budgies,Names will be hard to come by & the next thing will be remembering all there names.
