Thanks so much Kaz, appreciate your help! If I can't get any I'll let you know! I know of avian vets in Sydney and go there often so shouldn't be a problem

Thanks Kaz, that sounds nice and simple... I'm in newcastle so can't be too hard to find. Is it the same ivermectin used on cattle? I can get that easily from my cattle-farming inlaws.

Hello everyone! My budgie Bacci has developed scaly face mights, I have gone back through and read lots of old posts about what to treat it with and have bought the oily stuff for scaly face from pet supply shop but the problem is Bacci has never been one for cuddles and never lands on the same spot for more than 10 seconds! He is a super hyperactive little guy! I can get him to step up onto my hand or finger but getting him to stay there while I apply the treatment - NO WAY! I tried to grab him but he soon cottoned on to what i was doing and then he started to get stressed out and zooming all over the house. Any tips on how to catch him and apply treatment without causing stress to Bacci? I guess Im also worried as it has taken a long time to even tame him to the point of stepping up and I'm worried if I grab and hold him he will never come near me agian? Any help or tips would be greatly appreciated, Thanks!
  5. I have always found with my budgies with taming them it seems to be a "2 steps forwards one step back" kinda thing! Hang in there, the rewards of your little friend trusting you is worth it!

Same as my guys, they're generally always out. But if I need to get them back in quickly, (and "step up" then "in your cage" or "go home" doesn't work, which is more often than not! (Laughing out loud)) I find millet seed or banana, or another bit of fruit thats really sweet, works a charm. Thanks havn't tried fruit and they not super crazy about millet.
  7. Hi cam and Penny! I don't have enough experience to say if a Missy or Ernie! But they are great photos and sounds like you are well on your way to a lovely tame little friend! I have found food best taming tool so far.

maybe he is entertaining himself? Maybe a new toy would distract him from acrobatics? I find that my budgies get bored of a toy after a while and start playing with the handle on cage roof hanging upside down. if i put in a new toy they seem to stop. He sounds like a funny fellow!

I think it totally depends on the dog... My dog gemmer is fine but would never ever leave bird and dog alone (you never know!), my mum's dog is border collie cross and spends hours trying to round up the bird (it's hilarious!) and my sister's dog, a terrier tries to eat my bird at any given opportunity! One of the best thing you could ever teach your dog is that you are it's leader. It has been found in studies done that in a pack of wolves the wolf that has the hardest and most stressful (and often the shortest) life is the pack leader. This is because wolves, and dogs, are happiest when being a follower and not a leader! So if you dont hurt the bird and your dog follows you it might not either! sorry, sometimes a get all sientific...... hope that helps!
