  1. Hi, i just discovered that my billy is a runner budgie! here he is: Billy seemed okay when got him, but then all his flight and tail feathers fell out, i took him to an avian vet. he has a virus called Psittacine Beak and Feather Disease (am thinking this could be technical name for french moult?) I give him drops for his water the vet gave me, they stop paracites from infecting him as this virus makes it easy for that to happen. The vet said he will have it for life and it makes his immune system a little bit weak so i have to be extra carefull with him. eg cant go near other birds as is more suseptible to didease. he also recomended that i don't get another budgie as the virus may be passed on to the new bird. i can't have Billy sitting up high anywhere as he still tries to fly and has already broken his beak, it can easily happen again as he can't land well without proper feathers. his feathers grow back but just fall out again very easily. But he is THE happiest and sweetest little guy you could ever meet! I have ladders going up sides of cage so he can climb up vertical wires, also lots and lots of perches so he can just jump from one to the other. when we at home i put his cage on the floor and leave door open with a ladder to ground so he can come and go from his cage. we just have to be carefull as he is so little and runs around the floor could easily get under foot! I think your new addition to the family sounds gorgeous, hope this is helpfull for you! i would reccomend going to an avian vet just to get him checked out in case he needs anything. would love to see pictures!

welcome to the forum! that's so cute, isn't it exciting when they get all cuddly with you! sounds like a real little angel :angel1:
  3. Sorry to hear about the tumor, sounds like the little guy/girl will be very well looked after. When i went to the avian vet for billy he had all these special glasses and instruments just for birds so maybe when you get to an avian vet you will have a better idea of whats going on which makes it easier for you! keep us posted :angel1:
  4. wow, that sounds scary, probably better to be safe than sorry though.

Hi Feathers, I am really interested in little Pascale (who is really cute!) because my new budgie Billy looks like he has pulpitis was on avairy floor at the breeders and i know there would be mice there, out on a farm. Same as pascale, as a baby had feathers but they all fell out. as they are growing back they just keep falling out! He is booked in to vet this week so i hope i get an accurate diagnosis but would love to know any tips on how to properly care for a runner budgie? He is my first budgie! thanks, Beth

Hello, i love looking at everyone's budgies and now, here is mine! This is Billy and my dog Gemmer. Don't worry, looks like have left dog and budgie on their own but my boyfriend is hovering directly above gemmer and she is is very placid and has spent lots of time minding previous pets such as mice and hermit crabs. Would never leave her alone with bird out of cage. as you can see, billy has lost his tail and flight feathers, am worried but am hoping it was a stress thing and that they will grow back am really really hoping not french moult - scary Is he a yellow face? Is that the colour?

Hi, thanks for the warm welcome Nerwen so far i am repeating his name all the time, aiming for 5 minutes of constant "billy billy billy" every day. But so far he hasn't picked it up. im not sure but i thought i heard him try to whistle the exact same way we whistle for our dog gemmer which we are often doing, could he have learn't that yet? Do any of your budgies talk? My dog is a real mixture but we think she is a lhasa apso cross Australian silky terrier. Got her when was already 4 months old so not 100% sure! have you got any dogs? will try posting pictures today
  21. Thanks for your input, think i will let him grow up a bit and we can bond more and see how he goes. also need to be sure he is actually a boy! don't want any eggs. maybe after a year will get another one have a nice day!

Hello, Im Beth, am kinda new here, that is so lovely hearing about little chucky's film career! What a super star, well done,
  24. Hi! I have a couple of questions, Billy is quite tame, only had him 2 weeks and he young (6 weeks old) but worry about him being on his own during day seeing as he is a flock bird naturally. If i get him a buddy will he stay tame or just attach himself to his new friend? Also, will they breed or only if there is a nest box? Just want whats best for my little Billy boy. thanks :angel1: p.s. am loving these groovy pictures
  25. Thank you everyone, budgie people seem to be very nice :redalbino: That is all very helpfull information, am thinking is a stress thing. thanks so much feel better although am hoping they grow back and that he doesn't have a disease :budgiedance: will have to wait and see. thanks again for the welcome, Beth
