  1. good on your deb
  2. Thanls for sharing all these great pics with us Shannon. Sme great looking young ones and I really do look forward to seeing them fill out. In about 3 months, come back to this thread and do a reply to your first post. Next to the pics of the young as babies, put pics of them at 3 months later. It would be very cool to see them more matured.

Hi Dr Nick..... I mean Ian. Damn "the Simpsons". Everytime I hear someone say "hi Everybody" that is my usual response. We all love pics and look forward to seeing your pics on here. Welcome and I hope that you learn and contribute for many years to come.
  5. to get good clearwings, it is important to get not only clearwings, but also normals that are split clearwings
  6. I bought these 5 for a total of $150. Nubbly5 was selling some for $30 each and posted on here in February. I had previously purchased 2 Clearwings and 1 Grey normal split clearwing in January when i met Nubbly5 in Perth.
  7. They are great. I am really happy with how they are all coming along.
  8. BEETROOT!!!!!!!!!! the two clearwings I bought from you in January that are in the aviary have the reddest faces fromt he fresh beetroot.
  9. Kaz told me about this recessive grey gene once before. This came up in the deabte about bush budgies actually.
  10. It has been quite a few days since I update this thread. All birds are going well. I gave thema cob of corn today, and they devoured it. I have never seen corn get eaten so fast. Amazing. We are at Day 17 or quarantine, and they are going great.
  11. I never fully understood the grey gene. So it works likes this, grey comes out of blue in a way, so if I bred a SF grey bird witha blue bird, then 50% will be blue? That is so good to know.
  12. So you are doing the Roni-Vet thing? Budgies are so good at hiding their illnesses, that you often do not know when they are really sick. I was at the vet the other day, and he said ot me "With birds, we learna lot more from an autopsy of them than we do a checkup". It is sad but true.
  13. What did Lip die of? Autopsy results?
  14. Great pics. I love the idea of one trying to bathe in a drinker. If they want to bathe, put a smash dish in the bottom of the cage. Only have it in there for a day, but let them get it out of their system. remember, bathing on wet days is a no no _
  15. Sometimes we need to educate those that know no better, regardless of their age or relationship to us
  16. If you want the best mix, pair him to a Yellow faced type 1 dominant pied spangle mauve bird. That shoud give you some good looking birds. Although, the most valid question is Elly's - what do YOU consider awesome?
  17. I agree with Peace, you wre just unlucky not to get any recessives, and the one you did get was abandoned. Did you let this pair have a second clutch?
  18. I once had a champion breeder of very very very high quality albinos that sometimes they can have a brownish tinge to their wing patterns, and some inexperienced people put them into the lacewing category, but they are definitely albino's. The cheek patches have me confused though
  19. You will need someone to check in and make sure your birds are okay. in regard to seed bells, I too stopped using them due to the glue, but you can make your own. there are recipes on here that you can use, or someone actually emailed me one today. Seed Bells. Make a smooth paste with two tablespoons of plain flour and four tablespoons of cold water, then mix in a cup of birdseed. Put mixture onto a sheet of greased cooking foil and shape into ball with a wire holder in the centre. Coat hanger wire is ideal. Scrunch foil up to the top of the ball, leaving it slightly open at the top, then bake at 160C for about 30 minutes. Remove foil and continue baking for another 15 minutes. Turn oven off and leave seed ball in until it cools. Dave
  20. So are you saying we should give them raw or cooked meat?
  21. okay, so Daz, should we be aadding protein formula to seed? I have seen a nationals winning breeder adding protein powder to the seed he feeds his birds. Should we all do this?
  22. Great post Daz. thanks for sharing this with us
  23. I am very happy for you that lady has laid her egg. The hardest bit now is the part you need to perform - get out of the way - :budgiedance: I remember the first time my birds laid eggs, and it is so hard to step back. Constant checking is more harmful than beneficial though.
  24. The fact that you said the chick was near death and you brought it back and it is going good now means that it is not going to be growing/feathering up at the same rate as a normal chick. it will have some physical developmental delays, but it should catch up, it will just take longer. hang in there.
  25. As great we we are at hand raising, nothing beats a parent. If chicks take longer than usual to grow, feather up, all those normal things, it is usually due to some food/vitamin deficiency. Ensure your food mix is right.
