See, I fel sorry for them. I do not find them cute, but rather I feel pity for them. I am not sure what I would do if I bred one.

I think this is where the infection is coming from - the crop of Cino. They have previously had 2 young die on them, and the one that I removed seems to be prospering with another mother. I do not want to risk another little one with them.

I think the egg is interile as well, that is why I did not move it. I thought I will wait a little while though, better safe than sorry. I am so pleased that Caesar's young are eating in the nestbox. I noticed that, thus why I took some shots of it and wanted to include them. He is a real character that little spangle of caesar's, whilst the albino is a real softy.

Caesar's a single parent now, but his two chicks look like this Twitch and Kiwi have their first Dumb and Kestral have their first, but it might be a niece or nephew. Earl and Latte have 2 of theirs and one foster. How will I know the foster - it will not be grey, and most likely will be a spangle Dumb and Cino have 1 egg left. I do not think it is fertile. Opinions?

i have had it occur twice, and both times it has been in hens that are older, not younger. It might just be coincidence, but it might be a point to keep in mind. We will see. I do not think the loss of these birds was due to early hatching, rather an infection. I think Mum may have an infection in her crop or so. We will see what happens.

okay, so i am just screwed on my own then? Funny as I had this occur in one nest last year. I really think it is due to the mum passing on an infection, not a virus. Maybe mum is the carrier of the virus and it gets passed on that way. Anyway, I have moved the bub and it seems to be getting fed alright, so Earl and Latte have 3 young in their nest so far, 2 of which are theirs. I have also moved the fertile unhatched egg to from Dumber and Cino's nestbox to Dumb and Kestral's nestbox. We will see what type of parents they make. Twitch and Kiwi have their first little one. Tiny little thing, only born during the night sometime. Caesar's young seem to be doing okay. I have not seem him in the nest yet, but I am not in there watching every minute.

How old is the chick? Any others in the nest? You can give the mum something else to do by providing millet in the nestbox. If that does nto work, remove mum and let dad continue the feeding

So pretty much according to this book, I am screwed as there is no cure if this is the virus, Karen, you are gone as you have had yellow bellied babies as well. Though the nest infection is rubbish in my case they. they have dry wood shavings and the nestboxes are very clean. It is their first clutch as well

I am thinking that it is somethign passed on by mum, thus the moving the little one to the new nestbox. In a previous breeding season, i waited too long to move newborns and ending up losing some. This year, i would rather take the chance and move them early

Sometimes breeding is fantastic, and we all ooh and ahh, and sometimes, it $ a complete mystery that leaves us bewildered and upset. Dumber and Cino have now lost 2 young. I am concerned that they get to about 3-4 days old, and then they die. This one had a very yellow belly. I am concerned there might be a problem with Mum feeding them. To that extent, i have fostered the youngest one into a Earl and Latte's nest, where there are 2 little ones, so all the young are under 4 days old. This, I hope, will give this little one the best chance for survival. I do not know why this is happening. The young all end up very pale, with a very yellow belly, and a big red dark patch, that may well be internal organs appearing through very pale skin. Any thoughts would be appreciated.

I seem to be only one writing in this thread, but that is okay. It is like an online blog for me in some ways, so as long as I entertain myself, then I am happy. I have removed Caesar's lady as she was feather plucking, despite the millet and seed in the nestbox. Caesar appears to be feeding his young, so that is good. Dumber and Cino had 2 chicks, the sick one and a younger sibling. I looked in the nestbox this morning and thought, "that sickly little one looks better", then i did a double take. There were still 2 chicks, but the sickly little guy had not made it, and he was dead in the nestbox. No big surprise there. He was removed. Two healthy chicks in that nestbox though. Dumb and Kestral are sitting on 5 eggs. Twitch and Kiwi have 7 eggs, and the first should hatch any day now. Earl and Latte have 2 little chicks, and another 2 or 3 fertile eggs to hatch. No sign of interest from Luthor's lady. I might remove the nestbox and put them back in the aviary. Next time Luthor goes down to breed, it will be in the new breeding room.

Now that is one big pile of bodies. I like this pair you have with Omelette and this current boy, there are a lot more suprises turning up than when she was with Stud. Of course, with Stud she had some brilliant offspring, but the colour suprises were not there.

There is a product that you can get that may help him called Moulting Aid. Moulting is a natural part of their life, but Moulting Aid may help him. As I understand, you simply add it to his water.

okay, I removed Mum to a seperate cage. Dad appears to be feeding, but I will change the nestbox material later today, ading more seed and millet to try to encourage he little ones to begin/continue nibbling. We will see how things go. Little sickly dude is hanging in there.

I will remove Mum tomorrow, well today, whatever, she is out!!!
