My Parakeets!
That bird is not a self plucker. Any vet who told you that does not know what they are talking about. I am guessing that your bird has PBFD. There is no cure. Keeping it alive simply prolongs its own pain and increases the chance that you other bird will become infected and die. Sorry for being so brutal and harsh, but you should know what you have in front of you.

Breeding Pairs 2009
Update Time. Caesar - 2 young looking very good. i am going to set up the kindy cage thsi weekend and put caesar and his young ones in there to allow them use their wings a little more. Earl and Latte - 3 young all covered in down and startign to develop pin feathers. 2 look like normals and 1 is to young to tell yet. Hoping the foster is a spangle. Twitch and Kiwi - 3 young I think - it is hard to convince Kiwi to move - Dumb and Kestral - 4 young now, the oldest was from a fostered egg and the 3 youngest are thiers. This is great news as if you remember their first round were all infertile and then they got their brazillians.

Breeding Pairs 2009
I was right, Tiwtch and Kiwi's eldest lost its ring overnight/today. I put it back on this afternoon. It was quite funny actually as Kiwi does not like my hand i the box, so she gives me a little nip at times, nothing too painful. Anyway, i was returning her eldest chick and she was in the box, and she gave me a nip as i was trying to sit the chick down carefully. This nip was a little harder than usual, and it meant that I did not sit the chick down as carefully. It ended up on its back so i tried to adjust it, and then Kiwi nipped me again, as if to prove a point - LOL. We will see what happens with the leg ring.

My Aviary....start To Finish
This is all coming along really well. What is most impressive when this done will be the massive kindy cage you will have left - as int he current aviary. Do you plan to use that or are you going to knock all that down, clean things up, and build ken a beautiful big aviary for his new flock?

The Ino Gene
Kaz gets good names from me - There is no history of INO's in this line of birds dating back to 2003. I will be interested to see if Caesar's dad sires any INO's with his new pairing to an albino hen.

I hope they will be happier, they better appreciate it The paint is actually from the group that make killrust. It is an enamel called Killrust WinterGreen.

The Ino Gene
This is Caesar - a sky blue cock This is his yet-to-be named daughter, who is an albino hen The understanding of the Ino gene is that it is sex linked, so if there is only one INO gene present, the male bird will present normally, whilst the female will present as an INO. I always thought that for the Cock bird to carry the INO gene, one of his parents had to of been an albino. Caesar's parents are: A grey cock and a grey spangle hen (sorry no picture) The breeder of Caesar, a very prominent INO breeder who has won multiple times at the Nationals, is going back and rechecking his records. This breeder has also put Caesar's father down to breed with an Albino, in case the Albino gene is hidden in there somewhere. Now, orginally all mutations and genes were hidden in there somewhere. We know that there is a recessive grey gene. Is is possible that the INO gene could somehow also be a recessive hidden gene, or that there is a slight mutation of the INO gene to allow this? Or is it possible that a father that is split to INO could pass along this split to his son, with it never being realised until later generations? I would be interested to hear your thoughts on this.

Wow, quite a few cages there. How many breeding pairs do you have down at a time? Did you take those pics at night? Seems dark.

The Creation Of My New Breeding Room
they say that comedy is under-rated in our society, but I really think that some people think they are funnier tahn they really are - I need to do a bit more to it. I am not painting inside, I need to fix one patch at the back, I need to attached the strips inside to ensure it is mouseproofed, then I need to attached the plastic, then it is good to go
