Babies I Bred In 2009
Because she is a spangle, it is harder to tell. Genetically because her Dad is a cinnamon, she is guaranteed to be cinnamon. Since the cinnamon gene is sex-linked, she cannot mask it. Also since she is a spangle, she may have few spots, where if she was not a spangle, the spots would clearly show she is cinnamon. If you look at her colour, on her breast, you will see that it is not a bright grey. This is because the cinnamon naturally dilutes the brightness of the body colour.

Hello
Maybe it is my monitor, but I think they are: Azul - opaline grey - cannot tell as you used a flash and it is too far away, but my first guess is female Snowy - sky blue recessive pied - always hard to tell gender from the cere of recessive males Leo - greygreen opaline cinnamon wing female. Welcome to the forum by the way.

Deformed Legs Journal
I am no expert, but they look good to me.

She is also a cinnamon wing. So she would be a grey opaling cinnamon wing spangle. If her Dad is cinnamon, than she is guaranteed to be cinnamon, plus it explains the dilution of her body colour.

My Aviary....start To Finish
Thanks Dave You should see all my wounds.....I tried taking the side of my thumb today...the same thumb I put the angle grinder through a week ago and the same thumb I cut the knuckle of a few days ago For someone who works in a profession that involves cutting class, I generally thought you would be more........safe......when it comes to injuries For me, the equivalent would be not liking kids -

Mauve Budgie
Macka's info is crucial here. The cheek patches are the way you can tell a mauve from a grey. Mauve birds have violet cheek patches, whilst grey birds have grey cheek patches.

My Aviary....start To Finish
I know it still seems a long way off, but the continual progress you are making is amazing. Yes, it will be good when it is done, but you should be proud of its development. Well done to you and Ken.

Breeding Pairs 2009
And it is greatly appreciated. No today, just some details. All kindy cage residents are good. Twitch and Kiwi have 2 youngstes, both dom pieds. The oldest is definitely male, and i think the youngest is too. New Green cock and GreyGreen hen have their first egg - in the nestbox. She layed one off the perch the other day, but she has layed one in the nestbox now and is sitting on it well. One spangle and one DF spangle have fledged in both Earl's cage and the DF widow's cage. All look good. All other young are going well and eggs look good. There will be a movement of some birds soon. I am already eagerly planning.

Hen Attacks Baby
How is the little guy doing today? I never know when the right time to put a bird in a Kindy cage is. Some parents are great, then they seem to simply snap and lose the plot. If we privde the hideout in the bottom of the cage, sometimes there is nothing we can do. I hope he is okay

Hen Attacks Baby
Lucky you got it in time The change in the spangle is amazing - awesome looking bird.

Wattle Flights
i sold my clearwings to avoid the tough mutations. Not sure I would even attempt this one.

Wattle Flights
i am yet to breed with that hen, she will go down later in the year. Her partner needs to have a very clean cap, and hope that flecking does not get passed on.

Wattle Flights
Took some pics. The newest additions - bred this year, all 09 rings. Caesar's two - the skyblue opaline spangle and the albino hen, Earl and Latte's two grey opaline boys, Dumb and Kestral's Opaline grey spangle son and the dom pied orphan. Some have had tough moults. One of the new young ones I purhcased - putting this up to show Kaz what I am learning to appreciate. A heavily flecked dom pied - you can see how with selective breeding this could lead to a black face. Latte- Looking very trim - she will become a fatty soon - She can fly well, but she seems hesitant to take off, so Earl would always feed her. My boy who had the ear trouble - cleared up nicely, feathers growing back - thanks Liv The little Cec Gearing hen I bought has grown into this at 1 year old. She is going down to breed soon.

Breeding Pairs 2009
As promised, some new pics. They have all just enjoyed a course of spinach and corn, so you will understand if they are a bit messy. In the kindy cage, the 4 girls from Twitch and Kiwi and the two spangles - on DF one SF from Dumb and Kestral Twitch and Kiwi have 2 new young - one grey dom pied and one green-based dom pied This is new pair I put down - Green cock and GreyGreen Hen. She has taken to the nestbox very well for a first timer. Bruticus and his Albino hen have 5 eggs now. The 3 young of my first Green cock and GreyGreen pair The Nestbox of the DF widow. Here one SF spangle has fledged whilst the DF and the other SF spangles are still in the nestbox. The Nestbox of Earl and Latte - Latte is back in the aviary now, Earl is feeding his two adoptees - the DF spangle has left the nestbox, whilst I put the SF spangle back in as he cannot perch properly - and his opaline grey cock and cinnamon opaline grey hen young. I removed the ice cream container as Earl for some reason kept scaring the yung out of it, forcing the SF spangle to sleep in the seed dish, thus why I put him back in the nestbox.

My New Pair
It depends. If they are both great birds, then maybe. Which one is the cock, which one is the hen? What are you seeking to achieve? Healthy birds? Show standard? What are they like? pet type? show type? Any pics? It is hard for people to comment when there is so little information. People love pics, trust me, I know. Put some pics up and then ask the same question, but give us a bit more info visually and an idea of what you are hoping to achieve, and you can really generate some good disucssion.

Two More Babies
Fantastic purchases and the chicks are great - especially that opaline chick. Well done!!!!

Breeding Pairs 2009
I was looking at birds to put in breeding cages today, and it seemed that every birds I grabbed was going through a moult- either in the middle or coming to the end of their moult. I have decided to give the birds another 2 weeks before I consider putting any more down. This will give them time to get over their moult.

Poor Baby Dies
When I started putting my pairs down, I was very excited. One of my pairs - Dumb and Kestral - layed 5 eggs and I thought that was great. Turns out they were all infertile. i plucked them both, and it helped immensely. They had 3 hatchlings in the next round. I say follow Macka's advice, and pluck or trim. Give them a go after that.

Breeding Pairs 2009
Kiwi and Twitch look like they will only have 2 in their second clutch - one grey pied and one green or greygreen pied. This smaller clutch does not upset me as raising young ones is always a strain on the birds. They have had 2 clutches for a total of 6 birds, 4 of which are females and 2 of which are not sexed yet. The two eldest cobalt spangles - one in DF widows box and one in Earl's box are both out. The one in DF Widows box knows how to get back in so he comes and goes. As previously mentioned, I set up the ice cream container for the other one. The new pair of the green cock and greygreen hen are constantly checking out the box, and all looks good. More :ohmygod: tomorrow
