This has never been about individual people on here. It is all about animal management. If one of us was into falconry, we woudl not think it woudl be responsible to let it loose and swoop down on someone's pigeons. That is the same argument with cats. Simple as that. There are responsible owners and irresponsible owners. We all know that when something happens we often get emotional. If a person of race A crashes into our car, we get the car back from repairs, and then another person of the same race crashes into our car, we would naturally turn around and say that all "Race A" people can't drive. We know it is not true. It is an emotional response. I do not like cats because of what they have done in the past, however when I stayed at kaz's place, i loved her cats, simple as that. When i go to a freinds place, they have 3 cats, and i pat them, and they sit on my lap, all is good. I like cats when they are indoors, but I cannot deny the damage they do outdoors. Dogs can be destructive outdoors. My dogs have killed birds abd lizards. I do all I can to stop that by blocking access to the yard for lizards and trying to put feeding chances for the birds away from the dogs. Whilst pet owners are the problem, cats are a problem by their nature, as dogs can be. The reason I have 6ft fences is to stop my dogs getting out. If cats can jump these, and will climb out, maybe they should have these opportunities restricted.

Did you remove mum, or give her something else to nibble on like millet, or a block of wood? Tell me that when you had this problem you did not just do nothing but go away for a few days.

How can you get a dark factor into that line?

They are very cute. Interesting how the last 2 have head strips, but little other markings. Do they have any colour on their rumps or stomachs?

They are coming along well. I am not sure what you think you are seeing, but it is not a blue tail, and not a yellow face. It is a drak green normal. The blue you see is turquoise and that is the way it should be.

When it comes to "good" birds, it is often hard to judge. We have had discussions on here about bloodlines and the like. I once bought 2 birds off Cec Gearing, on one day. Looking at the birds, Kaz, Renee and I all thought that the blue bird (Caesar) looked better, however Cec said that the grey bird (Bruticus) had better bloodlines and would produce better birds. When good breeders breed so many good birds, even they cannot keep them all. I am sure that if Cec Gearing had of realised that the blue cock I bought off him was split for Ino, he would not have sold him. It was only that he threw an ino for me, I told Cec, and now Cec has bred his father again, resulting in more Ino's for Cec. Good birds do occassionally slip out as well - :hooray: Oops, I feel like we are hijacking this thread.

You make some good points there about the thoughts that go into breeding and lines, however I am not sure i agree with your thoughts in regard to birds going interstate. Quite often, some high quality breeders will send their birds interstate to auctions. The reasoning behind this, as far as I am aware, is that the buyers of the birds will be interstate, thus the breeders will not have to compete against their own birds to get to the nationals. PLease, if any of the best brreders on here disagree, correct me, but as I understand it, that is the thinking.

I am so not a cat person. I think that cats should be confined to the property in which they live. Now, if that means you have to build a cat enclosure, or keep it indoors, so be it, but I really dislike it when they wander around outside. I have a neighbour who complains about dogs barking, but has 3 cats that wander all over the neighbourhood setting multiple dogs off. Go figure.

I am about to go down and clean out the breeding room, get some photos and the like, but before I do, i thought I would do a quick update. The very good news is that Bruticus and the albino hen have their first little one. It hatched either overnight or this morning. She is an experienced hen so i have no fears about her looking after it. My greygreen cinnamon hen who has been eating the eggs has not consumed an egg for over 3 days now, ever since I put the millet in her nestbox. Maybe she is a hen that just gets bored in there. What is that saying? "Idle hands do the devils work". Dark Green Cock and GreyGreen Hen look like they have an opaline greygreen hen and 2 dark green cocks. It is interesting to note as I never payed too much attention to the dark factor and greygreen birds, but you can see the difference between different grey green birds. Both the hen and the cock look to have a dark factor in this mix, so that explains the dark coloured little ones. Earl, Kiwi, Twitch and the DF widow will hopefully be returning to the aviary very soon.

I am thinking that this is simply a dommie pied that has head/face striping, or really heavy flecking. I have one very much like that.
