How To Check Chicks
The books all say I should start to check babies progress from around 1 week old mark. How do I do this I imagine I will have to look at them closely. Lola is extremely protective and I dont want to scare her off or make her more mad at me. Everyone appears to be alive lots of chirpy cheeps coming from bubs. Should I just leave them to it and hope for best. i have seen little yellow blobs where I imagine the crop is on the one I could see properly if she feeding one she feeding all I would hope. I do want to handle them down the track a bit when they have feathers so that I can have them tame. Lola and chip used to sit on our fingers, now they just look at us like we up to something makes me sad I remember been told at about 30 days to start handling lots or am I remembering incorrectly.

Questions On Breeding To Fill Avairy
I live in WA in Rockingham, so any clubs around that you know of Id be interested in. Good thing you told me bout them decimating plants, didnt think of that pots would be good compromise tho and easy to hide the pots for aesthetics. Also cleaning would be easier. Thanks for that saved me pulling my hair out later down the track. I guess if I get in with a club I would be able to find nice owners for my babies. I also am starting to realise that I will probably want to keep on breeding specially when I see some of the beautiful birds you can get. Dont think Ill get into showing though those birds look a little weird (please noone take offence personal feeling). Yes and new blood is a must I was been a little idealistic thankyou for showing the reality. I so appreciate the help Thankyou

Is He Just A Wild Green Form
Thankyou I think he is beautiful. I dont know the colours of birds well the way the colours are named anyway. I thought he looked the same as wild budgie colouring although I know he is not wild. He is currently a father(his name Chip) with 2 bubs with a yellow female(Lola). I'm waiting to see what the babies will be, long wait though.

Questions On Breeding To Fill Avairy
Thanks for that What I wanted to do was buy a few pairs breed from them and have them colour coded no boxes in my avairy tho. Then when the babies were old enough breed them with offspring from other pairs and so on until my avairy was looking populated but not crowded. My avairy is going to be a bit extravagant I have $7,000 to spend on it so im making a kind of planted style all safe plants of course and a water fountain made birdie safe so no drownings for them to bathe in. Also seen a few really good water reserviour things for drinking water for avairies. More natural is better for their health do you agree? Whether i spend all the money or not is another thing and my breeding is going to take a while. Seeing as i want them mostly to be bred by me. So as long as i keep track of whos related to who and dont breed those together im cool. Also i think i may be hooked Yes I see you in WA too good budgie club info would be great, you are all so nice on here

Questions On Breeding To Fill Avairy
Like to say a big thankyou to everyone who has given me some pointers added them all into my budgie file. I am looking at setting up an avairy big one in a few months. Not that I would ever do it but does breeding related birds cause genetic deformities as none of my books really discusses this. I cringe at the thought but my mum had an avairy with a few nest boxes in it and the birds just bred away im sure with their siblings quite a bit. She had some lovely colours tho. Now I would like to breed most of the birds that will fill my avairy and since I have some babies now (parents had been to the vet and had a clean bill of health) should I get some rings so I know whose related to who. Remember im not selling these I'm just breeding till my avairy is populated and then stopping. Or should I start with birds from registered breeders and join a club and get proper rings incase i decide to go further. I have decided that I dont trust anyone to give my babies to so im going to keep them, well these first ones anyway. I must sound like an idiot. And from what Ive read colony breeding is not the best way to go (inbreeding risk) or have i grasped the wrong end of the stick. Anyone who has the patience to answer my questions I thankyou

A Little Advice Got Babies
Im panicing a little bit I keep hearing about mums that kill the bubs cause they want to lay another clutch. I dont really have enough room in the cage for another box and I want to take this one out once the bubs are ready. Is it common for the mothers to attack the babies or is it just something that happens seldomly.

Hello Newie Here
Yes I am to blame for babies, when I got given the boy they gave me the cage to which had a nest box. I knew they might breed just wasnt prepared for so fast and then now that I hav babies Im scared to give them up incase some bad pet owners get them. The girl she is about 2 years think dont know bout the boy. Think i might remove the box once they done One i dont want more babies and two I dont want my girl to breed herself into a early grave. Get quite attached quickly

Hello Newie Here
Hi im new. Got given a girl budgie and then just recently a boy and then after 5 weeks after knowing each other I now have 2 babies and 4 eggs. To think i was just giving them a home since the people who bought them didnt want them after they decided it was too much work to train them. They were just going to release them into the wild i almost died. I already been in the breeding forum cause i no idea what im doing. Im also in turmoil about what to do with the bubs if all the eggs hatch Ill have six more budgies and i dont have an avairy and i dont want them to end up with the people like i just mentioned. They grow on you pretty quick i must say fiesty little characters.

A Little Advice Got Babies
Thanks that was helpful. I just wasnt expecting babies so quickly, she hated him to start with and i thought i might have to seperate if she got really nasty, but obviously hate turned to love as the babies show. With the hang on stuff i meant the bells you can get like calcium ones mineral ones and ones with iodine from the petstore. I also got given quails and weiros the quails are sitting on eggs too know if the weiros start im going to start pulling my hair out.

A Little Advice Got Babies
Hi new i'm new to the forum. I have two budgies I never intended having. One of them i got was because my hubbies friend got a budgie and when it turned out to be a girl and wouldn't even sit on his finger he didn't want her so I took her in. Then I got given a male whose partner had escaped the cage we were given the cage he was in also with a nesting box in it. I put them intogether and now 5 weeks down the track i've got bubs 2 hatched so far but still 4 eggs. First any stuff I should do for them, they get fresh greens, vit supp powder for water and those hang on cage stuff, worming stuff and egg and biscuit mix (they love that). Also will handling the budgie babies cause mum and dad to stop feeding them I would like to keep one and tame it to be friendly. I know handrearing is a sure fire way but my work stops that with the frequent feeds needed. Any help appreciated
