Dodgy Aviary
It is a wonderful forum Take Kaz up on the visit... she's an angel, you'll love her aviaries. The rope is a wonderful idea, they will love it. My budgies have $2.00 shop skipping ropes in their aviary, they love them. As far as your space goes, each budgie should have 2.5 inches of perching space and they should all be able to feed at once, theoretically. Ordinarily, budgies wont usually breed unless you give them a nice spot to breed in, like nest boxes. I have mixed sexes in mine, but no babies There are some good suppliments around if you are worried about them having vitamin or mineral deficiences, Vetafarm's Soluvet plus is good, as is their calcivet. Other than that a good seed mix (most pet stores prepack their own according to species), fresh veggies and some eggfood (boiled crushed eggs, shell and all, with breadcrumbs- there are recipes online) for protein would be a good start. Oh and the budgies LOVE eucalyptus leaves (natural immunity for mites) and will go absolutely crazy over peppermint. Put whole branches in and they will be stripped bare before you know it Feathers.

Help With Parent Mutations
Hi PAdoula, well, as it seems the genetics have been worked out, I will just say, I think they are all gorgeous. (I could have saved myself some time had I read all the responses before checking for myself what was said about the YF factor) Feathers.

Please Help, Lukie Is All Fluffed Up All The Time!
Hi Vonn, Just keep your little one warm until the morning when you can get him to the vet. They have a lot of medicines up their sleeve to treat whatever is wrong with Lukie. As far as the wet towel suggestion goes, I personally wouldn't do that, that could make him worse. If you think the air requires more moisture use a humidifier or steam from hot water in the bathroom. Where I live, due to our import laws, it is very hard to get seed or pellets not grown or made here. Most foodstuffs like seed that comes into the state has to be irradiated, killing off the seed so it can't be grown. Obviously not good to feed to the birds, if you can't sprout it, don't feed it! So seed is more expensive than the rest of Australia and pellets are ridiculously overpriced. I, like most breeders in WA, feed my budgies a high quality breeders mix, lots of fresh vegetables and use suppliments to ensure that the birds get everything that they need nutritionally. I do not feed pellets at all. Feathers.

Recessive Pied Won't Breed
Hi, Dawson is a boy, but he is not in breeding condition. His cere will go a lot darker. You need to wait until then and then pair him with a female who is also in breeding condition. You will find he will be a lot more attracted to the ladies then Feathers.

Mammoth
Kaz, there's a lot of males in that nest, is it something they're eating? Mammoth is such a sweetie, is he still getting his cuddles? He needs to learn to stand up straight on his perch too, he's a bit chest heavy Feathers.

Hello Everyone
Hi Julie, I had to look up where Nathalia was when you posted the other day I can relate to keeping those "special" few birds that aren't up to par. I have more 'pet' budgies than show budgies at the moment, but after this round of breeding I will sell off all but the 'special' pet budgies I have. There are just some that are too much a part of the family Feathers.

Do Budgies Get Jealous?
Hi Jemini, it sounds like there are no problems at the moment, but as others have suggested, just keep an eye on them if they go into breeding condition (females cere going dark brown and flaky, males cere getting darker). I don't believe that getting a second male is necessarily a guaranteed solution to the problem. While it may work, there is also a chance that both females will still want the current available male. Juniors Mutations?
Yep, skyblue recessive pied, I agree with Elly. The reason his eyes look red, is because they are. Recessive pieds have dark plum coloured eyes which would have a red glint in the right light. Feathers.

Recessive Pied Won't Breed
Great minds, Elly, I was going to ask the same question Feathers.

Please Help, Lukie Is All Fluffed Up All The Time!
You are doing well, by keeping him warm. Try setting up the cage as a hospital cage, covered and kept warm, perches low and food and water easily accessible. He really needs to get to the vet as soon as possible in the morning. Feathers.

Crested Breeders
Hi, I would suggest that you contact the Budgerigar Council of Victoria or a club close to you, as I noticed at a show in March that there are a lot of crested budgies being shown in your state. This is a list of registered Victorian clubs: http://www.bcv.asn.au/Clubs.html They may be able to point you to a breeder that has crested budgies in their stud. Feathers.

Mutations And Colours
Hi Susannah, better pictures of them all would be helpful. Cinnamon, if she has brown wing markings, looks like a skyblue cinnamonwing, if grey wing markings, she is a skyblue greywing Maricruz looks like a Yellow Face type 2 Skyblue spangle Theo looks like a cobalt opaline Dawson looks like a green recessive pied and the other two I can't see enough of to even guess Can we get better pictures of them all? From that picture it is hard to even pick whether they are skyblues or cobalts. Feathers.

Recessive Pied Won't Breed
Susannah, is Dawson in breeding condition at the moment. i.e. has his cere gotten darker. He wont be at all interested if, hormonally, this is the wrong time for him. Feathers.

How Many Budgie Can I Put In This Cage?
Hi Marlon, the 2 budgies that I keep inside love that cage too. It doesn't have a name that I am aware of, but I'm pretty sure that Nathan got a similar one earlier this year. I've asked him in another thread where he got his from. I will see if I can find any info in his old posts. Feathers.

Brown Feathers Above Cere
If she is moulting there is a good chance that she has been rubbing her head on her perch and she may have caused bleeding by knocking about the pin feathers. I wouldn't worry too much about it. Do you have a picture, so that we can see what you are talking about? Feathers.
