Our Bargain Aviary
Hi Denise, What a great find!! Along with the attached flight it should make a great home for a pretty flock of budgies. As for the number, each budgie should have at least 5cm of perch space and there should be plenty of room allowed for all to feed comfortably. I don't have any eperience with hexagonal aviaries, but depending on how it is set up I imagine 15 - 20 budgies would be a nice number. Feathers.

New Budgie
Hi Cathy, Welcome to the BBC forum. It is great that you have joined the forum and your son should be able to gain a lot of information about training Pudge from the Budgie FAQ's section. Feathers.

New Member, Flock Of 6
Hi Rose, welcome to the BBC forum. You have a lovely flock there. The teal markings in wings usually indicate that the bird is carrying a violet factor, so I'd say that Murray is a sky violet. Feathers.

Marking And Recording Eggs
Hi, this is the chart that I use for my breeding boxes... The only time I mark an egg now is if very occassionally I want to keep track of an egg that I foster to another hen. I use a pencil. Like Kaz, I prefer to not handle my eggs at all where possible. If I do I use one of the air drying anti bacterial hand washes first. Feathers.

Hi Kim, it sounds like you are doing everything right and the breeder has obviously given you good information. What colour is he? Feathers?

Just Joined (newby)
Hi there Kim, welcome to the BBC forum. I would love to see photos of your new bird and you can find instructions on host to post them in my signature at the bottom of this post. It sounds like Oscar may have left the nest a little early if he still isn't perching, so keep an eye on him and make sure that he is actually eating, not just scrabling around in his seed. Maybe keep a small supply on soft millet on hand, both for training and to make sure that he is eating. Feathers.

Eggs Aren't Hatching
Hi Sandy, there could be many reasons for this and I'm sure that breeders more experienced than myself will give you some answers. I had a similar problem earlier this year due to the humidity in my breeding room being too low. To rectify this I put a bucket of water in the room. Feathers

Phew
Hi all, Would you believe, I actually let him stay there for about 15 - 20 minutes as my hand was resting on the desk, so it wasn't too bad. He is currently trying to distract my hands so that I will play with him instead of the keyboard. We could patent the idea.. I'm sure lots of people in wheelchairs will want one He is such a lovely little bird... I just hope that he will be the same after his hormone surge in 6 -7 months time. Feathers.

Hypercalcaemia In Budgies
Hi all, Obviously calcium is vital for breeding budgies and a deficiency is obvious where chicks have rickets or splayed legs. If you look in the Budgerigar Nutrition section of our FAQ's you will find this article, which does state that too much calcium can be toxic... Feathers.

Oh, SO funny As I was reading it I thought it was going to say "attach to your cage", how very silly of me I'll be the "Mum on wheels with budgie on play perch" Feathers.

Texas Clear Bodies:
Hi Norm, thanks for that... I have been looking at a TCB that Kaz got for me and wondering what to breed her with. I hadn't actually looked into the genetics of the TCB's yet, So this has been helpful Good luck with your rares. They certainly have a place in your aviary, as you've shown great interest in them. Bea, I just LOVE that picture of Oz checking himself out in the spoon reflection :budgiedance: Feathers.

Meet Kazumi
It is a lot calmer than what it was, Norm, I'm actually getting a chance to do things I want to do, rather than things I have to do. We will see how it goes as November approaches, which is when my medico-legal issues hot up again. Thanks to all for the other replies. Kazumi is going to be one very spoiled budgie, I think. Another New Cage!
Hi Boomberry, how are you going with the flood clean up? Is it a case of waiting for tradespeople as they are so busy with all the flood victims? Any sign at all of making the bottom of your place livable? As for the cage, it looks great for half of your flock, especially if they get some out of cage flight time. :budgiedance: Feathers.

Phew
Hi all, Kazumi had SUCH a hard day today. He practically insisted on being with me all day, in fact he is snuggling up to my ear right now when he should be in bed asleep. I will have to move my computer during the day if I want to get a break :budgiedance: This is a pictorial of part of his day. Cutesy look - "Hi Mum" Preen under here... Fix this wing feather... Head in for some oil Fix up the tail feathers... Strreetch out this wing... Streetch out the other one..... Ready now for a nap... I think I'll get more comfy, "thanks for giving me a hand Mum" That's okay for Kazumi, but I'm one handed until he wakes up! Feathers.

Meet Kazumi
Yep, the return of the budgie whisperers He is indeed! He is the absolute spitting image of his budgie mum, and, even though I have never been a big fan of cinnamons, I think he is just adorable and even better, he enjoys spending time with us. Feathers.

Meet Kazumi
Hi all, I have been a bit lonely of late, without a special feathered friend to share my secrets and dreams with... so little fluffy bum here (in my daughters cleavage I might add) has transformed himself and become my newest best friend, Kazumi!! (Fondly also known as Kazza ) He loves me despite the black circles under my eyes... and my daughter, Jacquie, loves him too Mum, you don't need to look at other animals on the computer.. you have me! Hmm, she's still not listening.. Look Mum. No Head! Kazumi is a Japanese name meaning "beautiful harmony". I hope you like my new friend too. Feathers.

Sherbet + Millie
One of my cats believes that I got budgies solely for her own personal television. She will happily sit and watch them all day long. These days she lies on the top of the outside aviary with her head lolling over the edge to watch... Feathers.

Sherbet Is Destroying Her Skirt..
Hi Missy, I can't advise on this one. I have never used a skirt on a cage, just kept a dustpan and brush near by Feathers.

Cage Dilemma!
Hi Amy, in any cage, the budgies will get to the highest perch and pretty much live there if you let them, because they feel safest up high. What you need to do to make them use more space in the cage is place their food and water dishes very low. Not only does that entice them lower, but it helps them get more exersize too. I also bought a cage that was very impractical as it had a solid roof and nothing could be hung, but I got around that by leaving the pitched roof off and attaching bird wire over the top. Now it is great. The cage you are looking at is the same one that quite a few members here have got, including myself, and it is perfect. You and your feathered friends will absolutely love it.
