  1. I used to have my avairy on a dirt floor I found it impossible to keep clean, but I know some people find it easier. About the eggs dissapearing it could be mice , but it is also possible that the parents have been eating the eggs. Have the birds been bred before? It might be a good idea to put some fake eggs in for a bit to see if it is just the parents eating their eggs, plus if so the fake eggs should stop this behaviour. Quails are fine with budgies as long as they are in a large area (avairy), I have a number of quails and I have now taken them out from the avairy because combined with budgie droopings the mess was enormous. (Tried to stick to the budgies) By the way all quails need is food, water and they will survive!
  2. Daz in one post you said that you could supply breeding cages. I would really love to buy some, would you be able to post some pictures and how much would you sell them for. Any one else who knows were I could get some breeding cages from in Aus, which arn't advertised on the internet (my mum won't let me buy off the net) That would be great.
  3. My budgies Lord Louis and Marie have three babies and two eggs left, I never saw them mate so I wasn't sure if the eggs were fertile. Marie had a good shout at me today cause I keep on checking the nest (Iwill have to get some will power so I stop looking) My other pair have three eggs last time I checked, I Dont check to often cause they're not in a proper breeding cage and cause of my puppydog toby I have to keep them ontop of the other breeding cage. So I dont want to disturb them by moving their cage down too much. I am so excited partly cause I want to see their colours and also because I will be having my frist go at hand rearing with two of Lord Louis and Maries chicks when their a bit older.
  4. The thought that more males hatch with poorer quality food doesn't make me feel that great. I want my birds to have the best of everything especially the breeding budgies.
  5. I've sent you an e-mail asking for some help! adelaidegirl
  6. My avairy is full of hens. Whenever I breed i end up with all hens or all except 1! I really need more males for breeding purposes, but it just is'nt happening. For example out of 9 clutches that I remember acurately 32 were hens and 5 were males. Is it somthing to do with the temperature? At the moment I have 14 hens and 5 cocks. This is just getting ridiculous! Is'nt gender ment to be split evenly!

I started breeding when i was ten, im now 15 ( i get the feeling alot of the people here are alot older!). Marie, I bought about 4 weeks ago and Louis ive had for a year. I was told when I bought Marie that she was fairly young but was a great mother to a number of clutches. I only have two breeding cages and are looking to expand. The other cage has two pied budgies. Basil(blue and white) and Polly ( olive and yellow). They have only just been put in the breeding cage because I had a hard time chosing which budgies would be best this year.

I have had an avairy for 5 years three of which it has had pavers. My budgies are always on the ground pecking around. I'm no expert, but I would just say they are filling there time and being inquisitaive.
  10. I have a picture of the female ill try to get onr of the male. I had another look at the birds today and in a certain light their eyes look red. The male looks white but he has really light makings in some light. Also the female has just laid her first egg today! This is the male Lord Louis
  11. I would love to know what type and colours these budgies are. I thought the white one might be albino but his eyes are black and he has more of a greyish tinge to his body. I thought lutino for a full yellow female but again black eyes does this matter. Id love to hear from anyone cause im just starting out. also what type/ colour babies should i expect? Sorry no pics yet i dont get how to post them some help there would be good also thanks
  12. I had a mother son combination that paired off in the avairy. I hate destroying eggs so I left them. They raised two chick and although a little on the small side they are very healthy and are beautifully coloured. It has almost been a year since the chicks hatched! I hope not to let that happen again though.
  13. I am really intrested in hand rearing budgies Id love to hear any advice I'm also interested about if I can construct my own brooder? if so how? I have never hand reared before and I dont want to make to many mistakes. Thanks
